Vaping Myths Debunked: Separating Fact from Fiction
If you’re trying to quit smoking, you’ve likely tried a smoking alternative such as a nicotine patch or a vape pen. Vape pens were introduced over 15 years ago and have steadily grown in availability and popularity each year. One of the prime reasons people have started using vape cigarettes is because they feel it is a safer alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes.
While vapes have made their way into Australian society, there’s a lot of misinformation about them. To clear the air, we’ve debunked four vaping myths that everyone must know.
Vaping is harmless.
Although e-cigarettes are marketed as a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, they have unique potential health risks. It is observed that they contain many substances, including nicotine, tobacco-specific nitrosamines, formaldehyde, and heavy metals, which are known to be harmful to people.
The short-term consequences of vaping include respiratory symptoms, elevated diastolic blood pressure, and elevated heart rate. The long-term consequences of e-cigarette use are associated with stiffness of the arteries, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced lung function, and cell death.
Vaping is less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.
Most vaping companies claim that e-cigarettes are safer and healthier than traditional cigarettes. On average, vape cigarettes have far lower concentrations of unsafe chemicals that cause lung cancer compared to tobacco cigarettes. But, it is incorrect to think that e-cigarettes are safer because what’s true on average isn’t true for all individual instances. Some vape pens deliver higher amounts of a particular carcinogen than a regular cigarette brand.
Vaping is harmless water vapor.
Most vapers are under the impression that vaping only has to do with water vapor. However, vaporizers produce an aerosol that contains many harmful chemicals. These chemicals are related to reproductive issues, lung damage, and cancer.
Vaping helps to quit smoking.
There isn’t sufficient evidence to support the efficacy of vapes as quit smoking aids. Nevertheless, evidence claiming that exposure to e-cigarettes significantly increases smokers’ desire to smoke tobacco cigarettes exists.
Summing up
There are many myths about vaping and smoking. You must do your research to learn about the most accurate facts and become an informed user of vape pens.
