The Amazing Digital Evangelion: You Can (Not) Exit

If the reference to the NGE's next episode theme in the Episode 2 soundtrack is hinting at more serious, more existential things to come, I highly doubt it'll look like this. But it was a fun exercise, and wow, look, there's color in something I did for once! Mostly colored pencils with some digital tweaks, effects and overlays.

But if Pomni ends up stuck in the circus alone and strangling Gummigoo (who may or may not remember her), well...

Reposting this old thing from last year in light of both the finale and that teaser image Glitch posted.

Nervous about the finale but still excited to go see it.

I'll be gone for a couple days until June 6th or 7th when I finally see it, but this blog will remain spoiler-free until after June 19th, including posts, any q-and-a's, and anything else related to either my art, posts, or Sherbet's Gate. So if I don't answer anything, that's why!

Only a few chapters more to go - but there's plenty of Funnygummy psuedo-makeout sessions on the way. Probably. At least one this chapter, anyways.

Voice actor headcanons for the various peoples of the candy canyon kingdom?

Oh, that's an interesting question there! Never exactly had any specific voices in mind, so I'll probably have to ruminate on that for a while, I'm afraid.

General rule of thumb is that the various peoples of Candy Canyon pretty much right the gamut of Anglosphere accents, but it pretty much sticks to Queensland and Melburnian accents with a lot of Irish and Scottish in there - and a sizable bit of Texan and Canadian too.

There's an entire vaguely French/Cajun part in the northeastern part of the Kingdom, though it doesn't come up very often.

I'm incredibly grateful for the amount of support Non-Designated Break has gotten over the past year (it's currently fifth most kudos'd in the Pomni/Gummigoo tags!!), it's one of the biggest individual projects I've tackled, a big step away from my usual stuff and helped me realize how much I actually really like drawing NSFW! It's wild thinking this thing is now a year old when it's one of the biggest things I've contributed to this fandom.

What inspired you to do the gangle/chad ship?

Thanks for asking about that - it's the one random thing that exists in this AU.

There's a bunch of reasons - one, crack ships are fun, and trying to find ways to make some characters whose total interaction is maybe standing five feet apart in the same scene. Making it semi-plausible in the canon that exists is an even more fun challenge.

Two, it just seemed like a nice option. I already had larger plans for Max in the overall plot, and while dude's little more than a cardboard cutout in canon, he seemed like a nice idea - he's the gang's driver during the chase, so there's something to bond over that, and he seemed to be a pretty nice guy.

Fanon during that summer also kinda turned him into the gummies' version of Gangle (at least the more unhinged version of her - Jax's line and the figurine thing didn't just open the door, it kicked it open) so having someone match her level was an interesting idea. It didn't help that while I was writing it did get wilder with Chad, especially after Ep4. But it's pretty much for the fun, here.

Three, there's a few plot/characterization things too, but they kinda go into spoiler territory, but I'll just say some things hinged on one of the humans and one of the NPCs having a real strong connection.

I do really like Abstragedy (I like pretty much all the ships, tbh) but it wasn't much of a thing when I first starting planning/writing the AU back in May '24. It was around in spades, but it really didn't get legs until EP4, and we had barely anything related to fleshing out Zooble's character until October '24, so I didn't want to completely mischaracterize them before we got the third episode.

Sorry for it being a bit roundabout, but long story short it's just for fun!

Happy 2nd anniversary to Episode 2's premiere!

It's been two years, and nearly two years since I started serious work in my AU, and with it being the last time the show is going to have any new episodes, I felt like doing something for it.

So here's some more Sherbet's Gate art. It's been a while since I posted anything, and I'm hoping to have more out this summer.

Also Chapter 46 of Sherbet's Gate is out now too. I'm nearing the end of part one, and it's managed to cross the million word threshold - not my original intention when I first set out working on this, but here we are.

Do you think we could ever see a sketch of Pomni's Gummy worm horse Trolli? The way you've described him in the fic makes him sound rather adorable.

I'm planning on it! I'm also working on an updated NPC post once Part One's done, so Trolli's part of the lineup.

I've got like one sketch of him floating on an old post last year - even though it's kinda more of a joke post where Caine possessed him to talk to Pomni.

Sherbert’s gate is also the most kudos’d Pomni x Gummigoo fic by a mile!

The next highest rated one, which I wrote, only comes in at half the number of kudos. (Emotional support NPC)

I didn't realize that either, lol.

Most of it came down to sheer luck of timing, I think. I had a chapter come out a couple days before Episode 4 came out, and that gave it a lot more traction being at the top of a fairly short list for the ship. I think it had barely cracked 9,000 hits and by December 15 it somehow was close to 15k.

It was also a toss up between - oh god, this thing is semi-popular and oh god, this thing is semi-popular.

Also holy shit you wrote Emotional Support NPC!? Thank you for being the first one to go all out in the ship, lol. I'm just following in the wagon tracks you've left.

Well this is a surprise to me as well, a pleasant one at that though. Sherbet's Gate is now the biggest TADC fic on the site, nearly 1,000,000 words too. That's pretty amazing, how are you feeling about all of it?

Potentially, having made the largest and most significant fic for the series has to be pretty rewarding, even if you were simply just making a story that you liked writing and developing, what its lead to now is really something to behold.

This isn't really a question per se, just more of a congratulations and good work! Having been reading since the 10th chapter, it's been amazing watching the story grow. So I thank you for that.

I didn't find out about it myself until sometime back in March (someone IRL did when they checked) so it's kinda a complete surprise. A pleasant one nonetheless, but a surprise.

Well, I'm impressed that I managed to churn out something that remained pretty consistent and it's still not done. I expected it to take years to do, but... yeah, it's shocking. I had estimated it to be around the 600-800k mark for part one, and well, here we are. It's definitely going to cross the 1 million mark when I'm done. And it's only part one...

Not that the other parts will be as long. Sherbet's Gate is really the setup and things will go a bit faster in the following parts. It's real interesting seeing how some parts of my stuff echo some of the scenario around the final episodes, but they're different, very different actually, and it's weird seeing the project outlast the show. It's something I expected, but it's still weird now being at the precipice of it.

It's certainly the longest, but as the most significant fic...it's really flattering, but there's a lot of stuff out there that might take that title before my work, lol. In terms of Funnygummy/PomnixGummigoo, it's up there, for sure - but there's plenty of other people who do great work too!

I'm really glad you've enjoyed the story so far, and I hope you like what's going to come! Things are only going to escalate from here.
