ICE falling down montage
reblog for good luck in 2026!
After the hell of the past two days, this reminded me of what America could and should be about. It’s a little pocket of hope when our administration is trying to extinguish diversity and community and basic human decency and replace them with fear and hate and division.
I really don't have words for how much of my state feels like a war zone right now. Stores are closed left and right to protect their employees, massive vehicles are just speeding like maniacs down roads, you'll hear the scream of a whistle in the distance like a tornado siren.
Some businesses are locked and you have to request entry. Roads normally bustling this time of day are empty.
They're now breaking into homes without judicial warrants, dragging teenagers away and dumping them on the side of the road bloodied when they verify they're citizens.
Minnesotans are stepping up and taking care of each other, but this is terrifying. Please, if you care at all about me, I'm begging you to call your elected officials and demand ICE get out of Minnesota. That's a small ask when there should be trials, impeachments, and justice, but just starting with ending the terrorism would be huge.
This is the 2nd time I've left kiddo's bathwater in the bath to water my plants later, only to have an overly curious kitten fall in and splash everywhere in a panic. Guys.
My dumbass little himbo.
First egg from our youngest hens. It so teeny tiny!
Yesterday I flipped some hardware and deep cleaned a spice shelf I got from my father-in-law's house after he passed. It's now kiddo's trinket shelf and she is ECSTATIC. Thanks @ahedderick for saving it for us!
I've worn these socks for THREE WEEKS, and I already wore through the heel. Nothing is strong enough against my sandpaper heels, even when I'm moisturizing the hell out of them.
he's so dumb and needy
@rederiswrites showing up in the wild on my FB feed was a bit of a trip!
Somehow.... our adventurous kitten got into the CLOSED, ENCLOSED chicken coop. And couldn't get out. And was upset about it.
Has anyone on here posted about the 2026 Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar full of buff firefighter women where all profits from sales go towards Breast Cancer Cure yet because, like, look at it
Initial stock has sold out but they're doing preorders for a second run that goes until November 10th (2025): https://www.breastcancercure.org.nz/calendar/wahine-toa-firefighter-calendar-2026
That’s some harsh, emotionally traumatic shit right there.
Rainbow is turning into a natural outdoor cat. Jack just wants to be with her.
The boys had one pumpkin left over from their party decorating. Roasted!
Plans; measure out auntities for pie and freeze. Pumpkin bread (similar to zucchini or banana bread), pumpkin pancakes, small servings to suppliment the dogs' food, and pumpkin oatmeal. Hear me out.
I can remember my mom getting those Quaker Oats packets when my brother and I were kids. We liked them, but they were ridiculously small, and a whole box of them would get used up in no time. It took until I had kids of my own to realize that it was incredibly easy to make flavored oatmeal, and using the big cannister of oats was w-a-y cheaper. Also, you can make whatever portion size you want.
So; scoop of oats, scoop of pumpkin. Couple of cranberries, because I am feeling festive. Sugar, cinnamon mix, enough milk to make it 'soupy'. Microwave. Use a good-sized bowl, because it foams up quite a bit.
The results are not exactly pretty, but damn did it smell and taste good.
Made pumpkin pancakes the other week, and all I did was add like...one cup of pumpkin mash to three cups of mix? and it was crazy good. Shockingly good. And the boy, who has an extremely limited diet that only includes veggies if they have no texture, also thought they were good.
Also made pumpkin oatmeal for myself, because as noted it's silly easy. The cranberries are a really good idea and I finally found them in the store.
Yay pumpkin!
Oooooh, hey, if making the best use of pumpkins is an issue, and it certainly is for some folks, please remember that pumpkin can also function in savory recipes, not just sweet. If you have freezer space, you can shred or chop pumpkin, then stir the frozen shredded/chopped pieces into many, many different casseroles. Check out recipes for butternut squash for ideas. As @rederiswrites pointed out in her tags, pumpkin is a squash.
A basic puree of pumpkin/butternut/acorn squash seasoned with salt and garlic (and butter. MORE butter!) is also low effort and nutritious as a side dish.
One of my favorite savory pumpkin/squash dishes is as a pasta sauce. Most tomato sauces give me a belly ache, so squash sauces fill the void. Use similar spices as a tomato sauce, and you can add chicken for a protein. Which is also a good use for leftover chicken!
Um...tiny chickens 🥺 I painted these 🥺🥺
We had a great No Kings protest yesterday, something like over 4000 people showed up, which is something like 5% of the population of the area. Our biggest turnout yet!
It was fun, it was joyous, it was communal. We had maybe 2 people show up to try and start something, one guy tried to start violence, but our peacekeepers stepped in and resolved before police could show up. There were the most "young people" we've had, despite being a college town. Lots of families with small kids, we all wandered back and forth between the protest along the road and the playground half a block away.
My 4yo had a blast, she shot bubbles from her bubble shooter, cheered and chanted, danced to the drums, waved and ACLU sign. She was a bit perturbed I didn't bring a flag for her to wave, will remember for next time.
When we left to walk through the neighborhood back to our car, she stomped and chanted, "NO BOSSY KINGS, NO BOSSY KINGS!" Very adorable, much public menace.
