The rapid pace at which they had grown comfortable with one another was unheard of for Mason. A self-appointed recluse, she wasnât in the habit of opening up to others in the slightest. However, both the circumstances of their first meeting and the differences she and Eddie shared had catapulted them from that night to this very moment. None of the tender emotions that had developed between them during all of that time had given her any pause. If anything, it was a revelation for the lonely faery.
How could she feel any other way when Eddie and Venom had offered her nothing but trust and understanding? She shifted closer to them then, turning her head to gently press her face into the warm skin on the side of his neck while they held one another. Mason chuckled with amusement while Eddie bickered with the symbiote, peeking over and noticing the envious glint in the alienâs white eyes. The prickling warmth returned to the tips of her ears at the soft brush of his lips against the pale flesh of her tiny hand. It put her somewhat at ease to know that there wouldnât be any brawls in the heart of the town filled with tourists. At least there would be fewer things to fret over while they dealt with what they set out to do. Venomâs sweet words sent the blush spreading along the back of her neck as well as her ears.Â
The half-blood nodded when Eddie spoke up next. âI promise,â she murmured against his skin. It wasnât an easy one to make. Faeries had an unfortunate instinct that often pushed them to flirt with danger, but sheâd simply have to force it down for their sakes.
Drawing back slightly from their embrace, Mason met his gaze. âI donât know about you, but Iâm dying to stretch my legs. Want to come with me while I have a cigarette?â she offered.
It felt selfish, Eddie thought, to sit there so comfortably, relishing their moment of peace when they had work to do. When an enemy alien, hungry and violent, was waiting right below them, likely planning their next strike. It had been so easy to forget the Klyntar just below their feet, endangering the lives of innocents when Mason had settled so perfectly against him. It was selfish, he decided; he was meant to help people, even if his very being - and certainly, his own symbiote - craved the chance to remain in that spot for longer.
He could have that chance when they finished the job, he reminded himself. And while he was loathe to think that there were things more important than sitting there with Mason and Venom - his partners, he thought with his heart full - there was the fate of mankind to consider.Â
Yeah, thatâs... kind of important.
âThank you,â he whispered, pressing a quick peck of a kiss to her lips before allowing her space. Venom settled comfortably back underneath his skin, molding to his muscles and curling securely around his brain. The ever present hum of the symbiote fell into an easy, familiar background noise, not quite like tinnitus, though somehow not far off. âIâll go with you, yeah. Iâd rather not get too far from you, given... circumstances.âÂ
Just donât put any of that in our body, Eddie, or I swear I will eat your damn lungs.Â
Eddie chuckled to himself. âYouâve just gotta forgive me if I stand upwind. You know Vâs a drama queen.â
