Couple of super cute little Jacob's sheep skulls I picked up at a flea market recently. Love those tiny little horns!
Adding them to my work-in-progress skull pile but they will be available in my shop once I get them cleaned up.
a roadkill salvage cougar cub for a client, super cute, I love love the faint spots she still has. Unfortunately, being that she was roadkill in the warmer months she slipped pretty good throughout and was delightfully host to some fly eggs, I will say she was one of the worst smelling critters I’ve tanned lol 😆 but I’m very happy she held up as nicely as she did! Cougars are such wonderful animals
Ps. Pardon the background, was trying something new and im not sure I’m a fan…
One of my favorite antelopes, the Nyala ♥️
I left the big one in its original staining, no bleaching. A stunning combination of green, white, and brown.
This otherwise unassuming taxidermied foal, displayed at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, represents the only known preserved quagga hybrid. The foal, born in the early 1800s at Owston Hall in Doncaster, was the result of a coupling between a donkey stallion and a quagga mare. [ x ]
arctic fox (ranched) - full pelt - F
a gorgeous arctic from this season that was accidentally sent to the tannery by my friend, I don’t mind though, saves me lots of work! She was originally going to be part of the shop stock but I couldn’t let her go (at least for now), look at that nose! Precious
☄️ ~ 🐉 Dragon skulls! 🐉 ~ ☄️
These are skulls of male chinese muntjacs, belonging to two different subspecies: Muntiacus reevesi reevesi (bigger one, native to mainland China) and M. reevesi micrurus (smaller one, endemic to the island of Taiwan).
They're full of distinctive features:
sharp tusks which help individuals in fighting, removing bark from trees, or digging;
right in front of the eye sockets, two large cavities called suborbital pits, where in life the scent glands would have been located. They are are fundamental for communication, as they release secretions used to mark territory and signal to other individuals;
two long bony pedicles that become more robust as they age and on which the antlers grow. As in other deer species, the antlers are shed and regrow periodically.
The cream morph kakariki is drying! I had to stop preening because the skin and feathers were so fragile, but I'm still happy with the result and I had a great time working on this bird :)
My first and second attempts at pinning Morpho menelaus. I probably won't try this one again to avoid overcollecting.
Some bird taxidermy from the Ferbank Museum
Look at the bone loss on this poor creature. Not sure what the cause is. It's a Scottie; anyone know if they're susceptible to osteoporosis or anything like that?
Skinned this cream morph kakariki, the poor thing wasn't even a year old. Its skin was pretty fragile and it had more pin feathers than I thought at first so I had to be super careful with it. I have two other ones in my freezer, let's hope those are a bit sturdier 👁👁
red fox (ranched, silver WM (fire factor gene) - full pelt - F
beautiful silver wm in limbo, not sure of her fate yet but a very beautiful fox, she has a minor double tip on her tail as well, but these pictures don’t show it very well
Duck skull that my dad found whilst litter picking on the beach.
I sometimes grieve my vulture hobby because I had barely even begun and now I'm not really in the position to be walking often or bringing home roadkill....
But I wanted to start sharing my small collection of pretty little dead things 💀🖤
