A Guide to Vermicomposting vs Vermicasting In Horticulture and Agriculture
Vermicomposting is a process of composting that uses worms to break down organic material and turn it into a rich soil amendment.
It is a way of recycling food waste and other organic material, such as paper, cardboard, leaves and grass clippings into nutrient-rich fertilizer.
The process starts with the collection of organic materials. The materials are then mixed with bedding such as shredded newspaper or cardboard. This mixture is then moistened with water to create a damp pile which will be the home for the worms. The worms are then introduced to the mixture and left for approximately 6 months before harvesting can take place.Ā
