Marc Vilavella, who came back to Fernweh with his best friend and rediscovered old friendships while trying to untangle the mysteries that seem to hide behind every corner. By the time he's meant to leave, there's two particular people that he's hesitant to leave behind. Maybe it's a good thing it's out of his hands, then.
Relationships:
Beckett: Best friends! Marc moved around a bit and jumped job to job for a while, which is where he met Beckett one summer and they seemed to click.
Sofia: Good friends reconnecting! Marc missed all his old friends more than he'd like to admit, but quiet moments reading side by side with Sofia in Turn the Page and showing each other interesting facts they'd read are some of his fondest memories from his childhood.
James (💜): Missed him something fierce, for years after moving still wore their matching necklaces and tried calling to the farm, but it never seemed to get through. Said feelings get more complicated when Marc realizes they're growing into something more than just friendship.
Ruby (💚): For a rival, she was incredibly missed. Things were less fun to do without competing with her. Any time Marc was called by his last name he automatically tried to find her. He's so happy to see her still be so herself when he comes back that it takes a bit longer to register what he's feeling.
Mal: As someone who worked in customer service, Marc thinks he's just perfectly normal and very nice for someone who has to deal with customers all day. A Friendly Face indeed.
Grandfather: Hurt by being sent away and felt abandoned, but still loves him. Understands him better and wishes they'd had more time together after the events of Book One.
Aurum: Marc sees that dog and it's love at first sight. Actually, just hearing there was a dog made him love it. Who's a good boy? This brave little goldheart is!!!
Mrs Verner: Would deck her in a heartbeat, but remains polite for both appearances and to not make it harder on Ruby.
Route: JR. It was so nice to see them it takes Marc a while to realize his childhood crushes are back with a vengeance, and simultaneously to top it off. But he's not back forever, so he keeps it to himself and tries to just soak in their company while he can. Leaving Fernweh feels bittersweet, and Marc's already planning his next visit before it's even time to leave. He thinks there could be something there, so he isn't that disappointed to find leaving is not an option. Maybe now he'll be able to meet Ruby's cat.
