Heathers (1988) dir. Michael Lehmann
i justâŠ. hamilton is so weird to me because this guy writes a whole ass show describing alexander hamilton as attractive and alluring (sure, why not- thatâs not the point im making) and then casts himself in that part????? is that not gross to anyone else?? like it makes me uncomfortable to listen to the songs and hear them praise this guy and then know that the playwrite literally put himself in the show??
when people get upset at me bc they think im complaining that lin doesnât look like hamilton did irl?? no?? like there are a lot of reasons that lin as hamilton is not my favorite thing, and that is not one of the reasons. however! it is weird to me because heâs described as being soooo handsome that allll the ladies falll for him (im exaggerating, obviously) and knowing that the man who wrote those lyrics is Playing That Part. this doesnât have to bother you, but it does rub me the wrong way.
Demand change for BIPOC theatremakers.

Support black theatre makers- itâs not enough to just think it. We must examine ourselves and how we view and treat BIPOC in theatrical spaces. We must put forth the work to actively make these spaces a safe space for BIPOC, as well as reaching into communities and making theatre a more accessible art form to non-white audiences, this does not mean financially. Making the theatre a space where all voices can be heard and all people can be seen should be a number one priority. Reaching out into communities and telling stories that will resonate with them, or at least has people who look like them in it, is such a simple thing that can go such a long way.
Side note: While there shouldnât be a quote-unquote quota to fill in involving BIPOC in theatrical productions, as it should be based on talent. But if the âmost talentedâ people being hired are always white, I donât believe that they were the âmost talentedâ people who applied for the position. And if they were, you need to examine why more POC werenât applying/auditioning.
Hey guys, as a professional theatre actor this is super important. EVERY SINGLE industry pro that has EVER talked me about the audition room (including a casting director TODAY) has always stated that getting cast (professionally) is not usually based on talentâeveryone is talented. Itâs who is best fit for the role. And if that best fit is always whiteâŠ.well. You see the issue.
