As soon as they’d reappeared in a rush of air, the Doctor felt himself dizzily looking around, taking in his surroundings. The pale whiteness of the place, the silence of it, was comforting rather than unnerving; like a quiet place, somewhere he knew he was safe. He loved to see new places and new things, and this was certainly new, reminding him of New New York when he’d gone with Rose. It was lovely, and a wide smile tugged at his lips.

“I think it’s fantastic,” he told them, an echo of one of his previous faces. “It’s brilliant. What is your planet called? It’s a shame I don’t have my friend with me, she’d have loved to see this place.”

Clara was always begging him to take her to more alien places, and he tried his best to meet her enthusiastic pleas. This place would have been perfect for her, definitely.

“Where do you two live, then?”

Megan smiled and said, "Koti."  She paused for a bit and said, "That's its name.  It means home."  She paused again for a bit longer, as if she was getting chocked up.

Tina smiled and squeezed Megan's hand gently, turning from her face to look up at The Doctor.

"We live in the city Metsia," she said as she gestured with her free hand to the city down the grass path.  "I'd love to show you around, but there are a couple of things," she said.

Tina looked up at the Doctor, who was much taller than them.  Nearly 60 cm taller than either Tina or Megan, in fact.  "The first thing is, you're taller, much taller, than even the tallest of us."

She paused for a long time, seemingly in thought, and said, "And, second, no one visits our world.  We don't know why, but you're one of the only outsiders to ever see this place, other than the people who live on the moon," she said, turning to look up at the object hanging in the sky.

"It's not that it's dangerous," Megan suddenly spoke up to say.  "No one would try to hurt you, but you would, uh... be the centre of a great amount of discussion, if we do go into the city."

Megan looked from Rose to Tina as if she didn’t quite understand the question, and then Tina looked up to to Rose.  ”I’m not sure I understand.  Our device allows us to travel back and forth to any universe as frequently as we want.”

Megan nods and continues by saying, “It might be difficult to replicate, perhaps.  I don’t really know much about the technology you’re using, but I can’t see why your mum and dad wouldn’t be able to come with you.”

Rose smiled in relief, “That’s the best news I’ve heard all day.” She glanced at the arm bands they each wore and touched her own absentmindedly, “Will I have to wear one of those? Or are you going to help me build the dimension canon?” She wondered how reliable this sort of travel was. Mickey had warned her that she might end up anywhere. 

“Maybe a test run would be nice?”

Megan looked down at her arm and shook her head.  "No, this is our device to travel."  She looked back up at Rose and said, "We could actually take you, I expect, but teaching you to build it could prove useful."

Tina nodded and said, "Perhaps if you show us what you have, we can help.  If it does go wrong, we can bring you back."  She smiled in an attempt to reassure Rose.

Megan rolled up her sleeve and, on her wrist, was a device that looked similar to a vortex manipulator, and Tina rolled up her own sleeve and showed another device that looked similar.

“They work as a pair,” Tina explained.  ”We always travel in pairs, and so they work like this to keep us safe.”

“We’ve been using this for a long time in our history,” Megan continued.  ”I’m not extremely well versed on the physics behind it, but I know how they work, so I’m sure I, particularly with Tina’s immense knowledge, could easily help you.”

Tina didn’t reply, but she did blush slightly at Megan’s words.  Perhaps she simply hoped no one would notice.

Rose offered a small smile to the pink faced girl, “Well, then I’m sure with your brilliance, it’ll work. Can I ask you somethin’ though? After you help me, there’s no going back. I want my Mum an’ Dad to come too… can they? Or is this just a one person trip?”

Tina smiled a wry smile and said, “He is The Doctor.  Is he ever not in trouble?”

Megan playfully elbowed Tina in her side before looking up at Rose.  She said, “We didn’t look to see, specifically, what your Doctor was doing.  Let me explain a bit more.”

Megan looked to go into deep thought for a few moments and then began by saying, “I was doing some research on different types of calligraphy… Calligraphy is one of my favourite forms of art… I kept finding these messages all over.  Those two words, that is.  Bad Wolf.  I mentioned it in passing to my Other,” she said as she nodded to Tina, “And I thought that was it.  But she looked up the origin of the phrase, and we happened upon you, and so, well, I wanted to understand, so I read bits of your story.”

She paused for a long moment and said, “I also found that this you was separated from The Doctor, pulled to this alternate universe.  I thought, I want to help her get back to him.”

She paused again and gave a small laugh.  ”So I guess that’s really what it is.  I wanted to give this version of your story a happy ending.”  She met Rose’s eyes and said, “That’s all it is really.  I just really like happy endings.”

Rose studied the girls for a long moment, silent except for the many thoughts that swirled around in her head. 

Should she trust them? She wasn’t sure. But she didn’t exactly what to stay here either. She’d give nearly anything to get back to the Doctor, even it meant hurting herself in the end. It was a cost she was willing to pay, just to hold him one more time, To be there for him, and help him. 

After several moments she cleared her throat, deciding to trust them, her only other option was to continue struggling on her own. “There’s this machine I’ve been tryin’ to build… a dimension canon. The theory is that it will help me jump between universes. I just need help getting it to work, and I need help deciding at what point to jump. It has to be when the walls are weakened somehow.” 

A sigh escaped her, she’d been working on it for months without much success. “I don’t know if I can trust you or not, but I hope that I can, cos I’d really like to get back home…”

  Megan turned to Tina and whispered something in their language, and then placed her hands together as if making a big request.

Tina just laughed, shrugged, and nodded, without saying a word.

Megan’s face lit up and then she turned to The Doctor and asked, “I wonder if you would like to go somewhere special with us, Doctor?”

“I’m a traveler,” he said with a smile. “Seeing special places is what I live for.”

He wondered what they wanted to show him, though didn’t question it just yet. He’d see in time. The Doctor held out his hand, prompting, “Lead the way. I’ll follow you.”

Megan took the Doctor's hand in hers, and Tina's with her other.  Tina nodded to Megan and then, with a flash, they vanished.  Then, seemingly the next moment the reappeared in a completely new place.

The sky was bright clear blue, dotted with white clouds.  The air warm, but not hot, and a gentle breeze could be felt occasionally.  Beyond the clouds, a large "moon", with its own clouds, seas, and land masses could be seen.

The ground beneath them was lush green grass, neatly trimmed into something that looked like a path.  On either side of them were long rows of brilliant multicoloured flowers.

Periodically there was a tall white pillar with a track above their heads.  A moment or so after they arrived a train zipped by at high speed but was still almost silent, making a sound like a "woosh" rather than like a typical train.  A twin of the tracks ran along beside the first, running roughly following the path they were on.  The second track was likely used by trains leaving the city.

Yes, the city.  In the distance, though not too far off, there was a group of very tall buildings in an array of shapes on colours.  Around the perimeter were structures that looked almost like artificial trees.  Tall, with many egg shaped capsules at the end of "branches" with a ring inside, connecting the "branches".  And, even in the city, there were many trees that could be seen in the distance.

The other directions had open fields that went on for various distances, and then there were dense forests.  The train tracks headed directly into one such forest and disappeared behind the trees.

"This, this planet, is our home.  Welcome," Megan said with a smile as she turned her head and looked up to the Doctor as if to ask, "What do you think?"

Megan walked in first, smiling, and Tina followed behind her, the two of them stopping by the console in the centre of the control room.

Megan turned to The Doctor and asked, “Do you mind if I draw or paint the inside of your craft?”

Tina asked, “Where and when, you said?”  A smile spread across her face as she said, “Surprise us.”

He laughed. “Well, that all depends what you’d be doing, sweetheart..” He said to Megan. “And okay, Tina.. How about.. New York, New York in 1989?” He asked, raising an eyebrow as he moved to the middle and punched in the coordinates for NY, New York.

Megan tilted her head to the side and then produced a sketch pad, as if to say, I mean, may I draw what it looks like on this.

Tina smiled and nodded.  "I've never been to New York before, or seen it in any time, actually, so that sounds good to me."

  Tina smiled and nodded.  ”You’re in the stories of almost ever civilization in the universe.”

“What are you up do, Doctor?” Megan asked.

“What I’m always up to, I suppose. My, er— my companion is at home right now. Wanted to pop in and check on the kids, so I’m just wandering a bit until I go back and get her.” Really, he didn’t have to leave at all. Time machine; he could have simply pushed a few buttons and appeared the next day when no time at all would pass for him. But he felt like they both needed a bit of a break from one another before things became too much.

The two sat beside Rose, and Megan turned to Tina with a bit of a smirk on her face, but remained quiet.

“Well, the thing is, it is written down…”  She turned to Megan and then back to Rose.  ”I didn’t bring it, even though Megan suggested I should.”

She scratched her head a moment and said, “That’s what we do.  Chronoscribes, and people like me in particular, since I’m a historian…”  She grew quiet for a few long moments before saying, “Well, we can deal with that next if you do want to see our chronicle.”

Megan spoke then and said, “We’re helping you because we can?  We don’t typically have this opportunity.”

Tina clarified by saying, “We usually just chronicle stories, not get involved.”

Megan asked Rose, “Would you like to see the record of your travels with The Doctor?”  She gave a warm smile, that seemed to say that whatever she answered, she would accept it.

“Erm…. s-sure… I suppose…” She wasn’t sure how to take this information. She was in a history book? She’d never expected that she herself had been recorded through histroy, maybe the Doctor, but not herself. “Jus’ tell me somethin’ first. The Doctor… is he in trouble? Do you know where he is?” She looked between them for any sign of truth or deceit, hoping beyond hope that their answer would be positive. “Is that why you’ve come to help me?”
