Auschwitz, the most infamous of Hitler’s concentration camps, “celebrates” today the 75th anniversary of the death camp’s liberation. Auschwitz-Birkenau was located in occupied Poland. It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million people, most of them Jews, were killed there during its time of operation. About 200,000 were saved when the camp was liberated by the advancing Red Army on January 27, 1945.
