he was shaking as she pulled him through the club. he mumbled softly to himself, sniffling every so often as if he was crying. when they'd stopped and she pulled his face into her hands, forcing him to look at her his eyes grew wide, fearful. he looked like he hadn't slept in days.

he hadn't slept in days.

her words hit him and he flinched, sniffling again softly. his mumbling grew louder until finally he spoke properly enough for her to understand him, "j-just a few days, i needed to see you v."

he reached up and grasped her hands, they now both held his attention on her. a thick swallow and his flinched again as if fighting something in his mind. as if something else was fighting him. "v-v-viOLET."

his heterochromia looked off, his blue eye's ( the left ) normally large pupil had broken into a strange pattern and his/its speech sounded even more panicked now. " vi oh let. jack... " it scrambled backwards, pointing at her now. " you never answered. you don't care about us. "

it was talking about the seven voice mails it learned to leave. it's learning. about her and about jack's love for her. it wants to love her.

it wanted to love her.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤThose, who would ESCAPE The Maw, sought never to return. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤThey were not so hubristic, as to THINK THEMSELVES BRAVE. ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤAnd, then ... there was this one.

For a time, it had watched, from the shadows. In his hand, ALWAYS, some sort of recording device. Old. FAMILIAR. The sort, that old - VHS tapes would be recorded on. He was cataloging The Maw. Even it, was smart enough to DISCERN SO. In the shadows, it would linger. Unseen. UNSENSED ?

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤLikely not.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤIt stills, as speaker screeches.

So, even The Maw, knew. It titters softly, static - laden laughter echoing through the empty, of mall hallways. From its' place, does it emerge, footfall SILENT. Head tips ; cants. A hound, curious, but FROTHING to chase the rabbit in its' sights.

he wasn't known for his hubris and yet still there he was returning to the mall ( that word felt wrong, perhaps another "m" word fit better? ) he held the camera close to his body, filming carefully as he walked through the empty corridors. 

he jumped.

HALT. YOU ARE TRESPASSING. 

he flinched, dropping the camcorder and covering his ears. his heart thunked in his chest, beating as if it was being ripped out. 

when he removed his hands from his ears, bending down to grab the camcorder, he heard it, that static filled laughter echoing through the hallways of the maw ( it felt like a mouth, a gateway to something unknown ). he pointed his camera toward the shadows, looking not into the shadows himself but into the cameras viewfinder. he doesn't notice the glow of eyes in the distance but he does notice that his screen is going fuzzy, glitching out almost. 

"fuck... i b-b-broke it."

Jill's lips quirked at one corner when he correctly identified the reference. She leaned back a little when the stranger crossed over to press into her space. She gave a snort of a laugh, "I don't know that I'd go that far. Actually — you know what? I'll take it. Maybe saving you balances out some of my karma or whatever. Can't hurt, right?"

"Jack, really?" Jill questioned, with a chuckle as she shook his hand, "There's definitely another Fight Club joke there just asking to be made, but it feels too easy." She decided aloud with a little shake of her head. The guy seemed off, but Jill didn't feel bothered enough to try and guess why.

"I'm Jill." She introduced herself amicably and then visibly grimaced, "And now it sounds like we're supposed to recite a nursery rhyme."

he nodded when she question his name, slipping his hand out of hers. he continued walking toward his destination, hopping she was following or at least going the same vague direction as him. he skipped over the cracks in the sidewalk like a child, mumbling to himself the nursery rhyme about stepping on cracks as he did so.

he turned swiftly, looking back at jill. "you've got to tell me, jill, your favourite horror movie?" what a question to ask a stranger and yet he did. its one of his favourites to ask.

"or something that scares you, that works too." he's mumbling again. "something scary."

it's late at some small chinese place, “read your fortune cookie thing, man. mine says... the universe tends to unfold as it should. i knew it. i'm gonna turn 30 and die.”

"you were already gonna die, man..." a soft chuckle, his thumb tapping little signals into the table. he looked over at chris and smiled at his friend before going back to chewing his chow mein.

with a full mouth, "you know what i bet mine says something stupid as fuck." he grabbed at the extra fortune cookie and smashed it, sliding the little paper out of the now crushed cookie.

when their hands are shoved away from him, zora is a little taken aback - staring at him as if he clearly needs the assistance but surprised by what is actually going on.

"uh. i .. yeah. i guess we're friends." zora had chatted with jack online a few times, and had met him in person. would what they have be called friendly? perhaps?perhaps... maybe associates might be more accurate depending on how he felt about them.

but that was not the point, they were observing as..he, maybe this him, maybe this was not and that was another presence altogether.

whatever this situation was, zora had to remain somewhat grounded, even if there was something ..inside of them that sat uneasily with this situation.

"you know me ..but uh..right.jack.um you're in my apartment. because you uh knocked on my door and collapsed in front of me after ..clearly being injured.now i don't know what happened to you..but i guess i couldn't have someone collapse in front of my door and not do anything about it.

um. how are you feeling?"

how are you feeling? they asked it with such sincerity that not!jack looked around wildly for a moment confused that someone would be so nice to them. it flinched again before speaking, his voice echoing unnaturally with each word, " fine... we got in trouble... "

it blinked again, its hand now in not!jack's lap, palms up and open. in his left palm was a small blue piece of plastic, a usb stick. ironically though without something in his right hand you could see the little letter "R" tattooed into the base of his palm. it stared at the usb drive and smiled.

" we are safe... zora, safe.. we are- " its echo stopped abruptly and jack gasped for air suddenly before staring at zora with something akin to insanity ( perhaps true fear ) in his eyes.

"please tell me you're okay, z."

he's lost time again, for how long he doesn't know. all that matters is those closest to him are okay as he knows the other is unpredictable.

IT WAS ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. A bloodied, miserable mess, practically begging for death, simply left out in the open for a budding young serial killer to take a stab at!

Beyond glanced up at the numbers floating above Jack Fortuyn's poor little head and frowned. Plenty of life left in this one, it seemed. Oh, well. The human body had a great many number of possibilities just waiting to be explored, and it had been quite some time since Beyond had been presented with an opportunity to practice his suturing.

"Someone has done quite the number on you, my friend," he told the older man, slipping his arm around his back while the other tucked itself beneath his legs, hoisting the stranger up and into his arms with minimal difficulty. "Let's get you cleaned up, hm?"

he just nodded, holding onto the other tightly, nearly intimately, but his mind was too foggy for that thought to even cross it. there was no intimacy in his life now, just blood and hate. he whimpered as they moved, his thumb tapping little morse signals into beyond's shoulder.

he stopped tapping, a little gurgled groan passing through his lips as he pulled his face away from the other's now bloodied neck. "thank you," he can vaugely see now, his eyes tight from the swelling. he blinked, groaning again. this was a very small strange man, carrying him somewhere.
