The bartender gave them both drinks, Luca taking his and taking a sip.  “It’s much better to drink with good company than alone, especially during such a happy event,” Luca commented.  “But you’re still a stranger until I know your name, and I’d much rather be drinking with someone I can call…an acquaintance.”

vic followed suit and took his own drink. “it’s true! i hoped i wouldn’t have to wait too long before a conversation struck –– but look! everything’s great now.” suddenly vic feels warmth in his cheeks as they flood with red. “ah –– sorry. i’m victor. vic if you’re feelin’ close.” donning a bashful smile, he takes another sip of his drink.

Luca just laughed, saying, “I can tell.  It’s a struggle when the drinks are so cheap.”  To the bartender, he said, “I’ll have whatever my friend here is having, and his next drink is on me.”  The bartender nodded, and then Luca turned to the younger man and said, “I’m Luca.  Is it cool if I drink with you for a little bit?”

“thank you for understanding,” he says, nodding as he listens to the other preach to the choir. one of victor’s hands moves to rest on his own face, a shy smile morphs into a grin when he heard luca. “how lovely,” he wants to say more about luca buying his drink, but the moment passes him. “luca,” he repeats, “please do. i need someone to keep pace with.”

“dude, that’s literally what i thought when i saw the prices—- so i’m gonna glue my ass to this seat and watch ‘cause there’s most def’ going to be some action here,” jay chuckled, downing her tequila before motioning for another. 

vic’s laughing now, finding their mutual enthusiasm endearing. “is that –– is that the tequila special? oh, god. i would never be able to do that.” he’s shifting in his seat, sipping comfortably on a margarita. “how do you mean ‘action’?”

“What’s wrong with getting wrecked tonight?” He asked the other male as he laughed. “I’ll take care of you though if that is something you would like.” He suggested to him as he smirked. 

“nothing at all! i was just ... not mentally prepared for that.” he’s grinning now, “though, it wouldn’t be hard to get in the head space.” he blinks when they offer their support, grinning bashfully as he nods. “sure! i do get ... uh, pretty messy.”

“Yeah, I’d definitely say so. They’re basically asking you to with the prices that low,” she said with a laugh before taking a sip of the martini she had been drinking for the past several minutes. 

as the bartender slides victor the margarita he ordered, he flashes them a toothy grin. he takes a long sip as the other speaks, nodding in agreement. “somehow i’m feeling like future me will regret this but ––” he starts taking another elongated sip.

“Exactly! At the end of the day, everybody’s happy, that’s all that matters. Though I do find this place can have a pretty nice vibe sometimes.” Danny offered, glad the other had decided to keep talking to him. At the end of the shift, Danny always wanted something that’d keep him occupied until it was time to go. “Yeah, I thought I’d see what’s goin’ on tonight. I’ve been so busy cause of the rush it’ll be my first chance to actually check out what they’ve set up for the event.”

victor ends up shrugging, “i thought it was packed because of the vibe. until ... y’know, i saw the sign.” a big part of him is happy danny had some time to talk. he came here exclusively out of curiosity, not because of plans with friends; which, he assumes, is how everyone else is celebrating pride. “yeah –– i wasn’t out there for too long before i came in here. if i’m being honest ... this is kind of the first pride i’ve been to.”

“I think that’s the point,” Luca said to the man.  “They lower the prices, and you buy more because you think you’re saving money, which you would if you drank the amount you normally would, but the drunker you get, the less clear that becomes.”  Laughing, Luca continued, “I don’t know if that made sense.  But I’m going to take advantage of the cheap prices.”

“you’re right, you’re right.” he says, feeling his cheeks grow warm. 20% from feeling bashful and 80% from the two margaritas he’s already had. “this is gonna be my last one,” he murmurs, before ( not so ) secretly holding up an index finger to the bartender, mouthing the words one more, using the other hand to point at his drink. he turns back, trying not to grin. “i’m doing my best.”

“Maybe, but why create a perfectly executed atmosphere when you can just offer cheap ass drinks?” Danny offered a little smile, shaking his head gingerly. “No worries. I’m off the clock in ten minutes anyways, so please, take all the moments you want.”

“that’s true,” he says with an amused grin, “i shouldn’t be questioning the system. heck, it got me here, and i’m pretty happy.” vic perks up when he hears they’re off soon. “oh, what’re you gonna do? gonna enjoy pride?”

“How else do you think we manage to get people in here versus the dozens of other bars? Gotta do something to draw the crowds in. Though I’d say it worked maybe a little too well. We’ve been swamped all night.”

he sips on the margarita he ordered a few moments prior, now very very content with the whole life thing. “carefully executed atmosphere?” he replies, mostly joking. the place seemed fine enough. “oh –– yeah, it seems like it. sorry to take up what few moments you have to yourself.”

“Un beneficio de Pride,” Ian commented and looked over at him with a small smile. “Nothing wrong with getting wrecked. Everyone acts a little nuts at Pride. They let loose. It’s nice, actually.” He took a drink from his own glass. “Here alone?”

he tries to smile but he’s almost certain it comes off as a grimace. “no, nothing wrong with it. i just gotta mentally prepare myself a little bit.” he grins as he gets in the right mindset. if not he’d just end up getting sleepy. waving down the bartender, he asks: “hey, can i get a happy hour margarita?” before turning back  to the other to respond, “yeah, i was gonna get a little buzzed before watching the parade.”

     “and i’ll take one of those ... two dollar margs, friend.” he murmurs immediately after she places her order. “celebrating pride?” he asks the other, raising a brow.

hello everyone!! now introducing: victor muñoz!! he’s my fab puertorriqueño babe and he’s 10/10 ready to dive in with some plots and junk. some more details under the cut! if you wanna plot or need him to fill some connections like this post and i’ll hop in your IMs. 

his parents are both from puerto rico, moved in to continental U.S. around when victor was 3 years old. his father is from luqillo and his mother is from san juan. 

victor was born and lived on the island for a few years but since he barely remembers it he just says he’s from chicago ( where he lived before moving to everwood ) 

he's proficient in both english and spanish. he works part time as a spanish teacher for english-as-a-second-language middle school students and part time in an elementary school teaching spanish to little ones. 

he doesn’t have much of an accent, you can hear it with specific english words, or when he says his name. 

victor is very friendly and sociable. he’s generally a very positive person, often looking to the brighter side of things for attitudes and inspiration.

that being said, it sometimes is a struggle for him to maintain those positive attitudes. if too many things stack on his shoulders, he finds himself getting easily stressed and frustrated. he often needs a moment to figure out how he feels when nuanced situations arise. 

he’s a super nerd. he’s definitely a nintendo junkie, spending as many nights as he can inside playing mario kart or the legend of zelda. he also especially likes pokémon. 

is fairly religious –– prays once or twice a day to la virgen de guadalupe. 

doesn’t smoke, and only drinks socially. 

tries to be the pinnacle of latino excellence, feels that if he offers himself visibly and consistently to children he can most effectively reconfigure mindsets that charge latinxs with being rapists and criminals.
