nelefinnâ:
Neleâs eyes narrowed when she peered back at Victoria. Not sure⊠and as Nele followed the other blondeâs direction, she heard her add how he was nice. Scared. Werenât they all? âWhat do you mean by scared?â There were obvious answers, and Nele could guess all she wanted, but sometimes the answer surprised you. Sometimes there was something to be gained. Nele opened the cabinet, fingers drumming lightly against the door as she scanned it for what sheâs looking for. Thereâs a bottle, the exterior dabbled with dried bits of the homemade hair bleach, and to an unknowing eye, itâd be a mystery, but this wasnât the first time Nele had gone to Victoria in search of that very thing. Anything to ease the boredom; even when looking in the mirror.Â
âYou can tell me what youâd have done if you were the Enforcer on duty,â Nele glimpsed back at Victoria again, âCanât you?â There was a hidden sharpness to her tone, as if she was already ready to damn Gabe to some terrible fate. Nele was hardly the type of person who was fueled by violence, though it was known around the QZ that she was very unforgiving, strict, and suspicious when it came to possible dangers; AKA fucking strangers who just pop up.
She retrieved the bottle, turning to put it down on the nearest surface, âMind doing it?â She used the toe of her boot to pull a chair away from it, lowering herself into the seat, legs spread and stretched out as she waited for Victoria to join her.Â
âWhat do I mean by scared?â Victoria canât help the bitter laugh that builds in her chest as she shrugs. âIf you were bleeding out on the floor and a bunch of people who were strapped came in and found you, wouldnât you also be scared? Obviously we were suspicious, so I donât blame him.â Truthfully, she couldnât tell Nele much else, because she, herself didnât know.Â
Victoria takes another sip of the tea before setting the mug down. As the other woman speaks, Victoria looks to the floor, gaze tracing the patterns of the wood back and forth-back and forth, before she lets out a breath.Â
âHonestly? If Iâd been the one interrogating him, Iâd take his word for it. Watch him later on, assign him to some kind of babysitter. People deserve second chances, and really, itâs not my business to determine anyoneâs worth or fate, even if I were an enforcer.â She and Vincent were alike in this way, even if she had the stronger exterior. âIf he fucks up, thatâs on him, but what good would it do to determine heâll fuck up before we let him prove heâs good.âÂ
Victoria crossed the distance between them and grabbed the bottle as Nele took her seat. âBut I get it, itâs fucking weird. I know that, Iâm not stupid, and Iâm not naive enough to believe nobody would get the shit beaten out of themselves and sneak their way in here, but I donât know anything, so I donât really know what Iâd do.â Victoria begins to shake the contents of the bottle, holding it up to the light. âThis might be only enough to do your roots.âÂ
