I'm moving house soon and extremely anxious about it so I'm starting a Vila appreciation blog as a coping mechanism, which seems rather appropriate.
Absolutely love Vila! Feel free to submit asks. I'd love to hear you gush about him and I want to gush too because he's amazing.

I just found out Michael Keating (who played Vila on Blake’s 7) died. Vila was my favourite character, and even though I didn’t realise it at the time he and Avon were my first ship.
Thank you, Michael, from the very bottom of my heart. You were a joy to watch.
(Also Cally was my first crush, but that’s neither here nor there. Plus she and Servalan were extremely hot together: my second ship.)
Vila is the type of guy who can't drink coffee or anything with caffine because it makes him sleepy.
No one's worked his out yet and that's why he keeps falling asleep.

I adore anything where Avon is protective over Vila. He'd never admit it, but he cares for him.
I saw this on Twitter a while ago and I've been meaning to share it.
Vila always looks uncertain when he holds guns because he's not someone who likes violence or conflict. He's out of his comfort zone holding a gun and that's different from most other sci-fi characters, confidently handling weapons and making perfect shots all the time.
In spite of this, he has other skills and he risks his life for his friends time and time again. He's the epitome of 'do it scared'.
An appropriate time to (re?)share what's possibly my favourite Vila-centred fanvid, I suppose. I will never listen to this song and not think of Vila.

I'm sorry to hear that Michael Keating has just died.
He was the reason I first got into Blake's Seven. I'd been at college, in a broadcasting blindspot where someone had to hold the portable TV's cable in the air to get a chance of a picture, so I hadn't been following the new SF TV show (there were TV rooms, but I never got organised to go to them when anything interesting was on). So my first full episode of Blake's Seven was the beginning of season 3, when Vila is calling for help from the surface of a planet, and he's cold, and hungry, and he thinks he's broken his arm - and I thought that it was such a refreshing change from square jawed heroes being brave that I wanted to see more of him.
Later, of course, I got to see the full series, and the glorious double act with Avon, and he was in Doctor Who and the Sunmakers, too, just before Blake's Seven.
That's so true, he's not the typical hero. He's still brave, but he's openly scared and cautious. He doesn't fit into the masculine stereotype and that's partly why I love him.

I'm saddened to hear about the death of Michael Keating. Unfortunately I never had the chance to meet him and tell him how brave I think Vila is, but I've heard that he was an absolutely wonderfully sweet man, a devoted father, and husband.
His family and friends are in my thoughts at this time.
Hey Vila….why do you keep walking up behind Avon like that? Huh?
Because it makes him feel safe.
