In the middle of the night you hear loud scraping on your door and then suddenly it stops. “Mittens?” You say, expecting your feline friend to peek their head into your doorway. No reply, not even a meow. Strange. You slowly stand up from your bed, walking closer to the door. Placing your ear on the old and worn wood, you listen. It’s quiet.

Suddenly, heavy breathing can be heard from the other side of your door, getting closer and more congested and whispered, as if an old man was just outside. A gentle knock on the door, the sound of metal hitting wood rings through your ears. The knocking stops.

“Well… My friend…” A soft and cracking voice whispers as a long set of claws opens the door, a large man blocking your way out. He holds his long, metallic claws in front of your face. He stops, silencing you with the glare of a million lost souls, hungry for freedom. The man leans closer, his torn and burnt face practically touching your ear. He whispers, a heavy Boston accent overcomes your senses. “It seems you have met a terrible, terrible demise.”

Destiny was an amazing girl with a huge heart, and I miss her so much. Even kids who didn’t know her or never talked to here were walking through the halls with tears down their faces. We learned today that Destiny inhaled too much smoke, filling her lungs and taking her life. Police are investigating the source of the fire.

Destiny and Mrs. Yeager will be greatly missed, rest well in Heaven, ladies.
