Victor Frankenstein drawing that I never ended up finishing because I didn’t like how it was turning out
Some time ago I redrew an old Frankenstein poster with the character designs for “The Modern Prometheus”, an indie animated adaptation of the original novel
Frankenstein Blinkies
i find it interesting that natural philosophy in the early nineteenth century was itself a contested, hierarchical space, but victor gravitates toward the occult (agrippa, paracelsus, magnus), before being redirected toward more “legitimate” science at ingolstadt. his initial attraction to discredited, feminized knowledge (alchemy being historically coded as secret, embodied, irrational) versus the rational, masculine, institutionalized science he is meant to pursue reflects a broader pattern of gravitating toward modes of being that fall outside proper masculine epistemology. he is corrected by professors krempe and waldman but never fully converted—the creation process of the creature remains essentially alchemical, and thus the knowledge victor actually wants is the “wrong” kind for a man.
Never recovering from Mary Shelley writing ethe creature saying “I will glut the maw of death.” Like I’m never going to write anything more visceral than that ever.
let’s play pretend okay so you walk into my apartment at ingolstadt and the first thing you see is a creature stretched out on a table with yellow skin that scarcely covers the work of muscles and arteries beneath, his hair of a lustrous black and flowing, his teeth of a pearly whiteness, but these luxuriances only forming a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, his shrivelled complexion, and straight black lips. what’s your next move. my clothes are off btw. it’s anyone’s game

Hot take but I really like the comically evil and sometimes stupid versions of Robespierre (like the Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie version, whom I love very dearly). is it truthful to history? not exactly. do they heavily lean into the propaganda about him. sure as fuck. but do i love it? FUCK YES I DO. rather than just seeing how "evil" it makes him out to be, it kinda makes him look cool as fuck. at least to me. you telling me he ended that monarchy and was powerful enough to do all that shit? thats dope as hell! kinda badass, give me more. that's probably part of why I like Janelle's Vampire Robespierre. anyways that's my rant for today. also again sorry for not posting or being active much my social battery is dead and I've been hella swamped with committee stuff and events and work. yikes. but I will be back... if i remember to post more.. ha ha... (somebody need to remind me to post more)
My friend told me at some point that Peabody Sherman did an episode about the French revolution and by extension Maximilian Robespierre. I had almost NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of Peabody Sherman except for the memes. I didn’t even know they could go back in time. So I was VERY CONFUSED. She explained a little and I just HAD to ask about my dear Robespierre’s portrayal. This is how I learned both the portrayal of Maximilan Robespierre AND Queen Marie Antoinette were so THOROUGHLY based on propaganda it shook me a little. I was thinking okay well it’s a kids show it’s probably not that bad if it’s a little off. Then she showed me a clip of the film and it was for some fucking reason SO HORRIFICLY NOT ROBESPIRRE it almost brought me to TEARS.
Anyway I got my period the day after so that might be related to my reaction.
