Howard in Iron Man 2 vs Tony in Avengers: Endgame (insp)
hello it’s ya boy, the golden avenger
I am Iron Man. I am Iron Man
(2008). (2019)
tony stark spent his entire adult life under the guidance of someone who not only would (and did) try to have him killed, but was also fine with him not dying quickly and being tortured for three whole months if it meant he would bring home a single new piece of technology
tony came back home from captivity and sat down in front of dozens of reporters and turned to this man, specifically, to tell him that it was really good to see him again BOY i’m very fucked up over this like there was a post-captivity period there where tony didn’t know stane had screwed him over and this guy was there wrapping his arm around tony’s shoulders and sitting on his couch and playing his piano and publicly speaking on his behalf!! that is a LOT
there’s an IM1 BTS video that shows rdj, jeff bridges, and jon favreau discussing the post-gala scene where stane reveals he’d been double-dealing/trying to push tony out of the company. and at some point, they discussed the possibility of tony getting more confrontational until stane gets him to back down by slapping him. across the face. publicly. in front of the cameras. to humiliate him. in the end they settle for stane speaking to tony like he would speak to a child
it’s so MUCH haha!! it’s A LOT!
Okay maybe I'm grasping at nothing, but hear me out:
We all know Peter has spidey senses. He used them to defeat Mysterio in Far From Home.
But we see Peter struggling with them all throughout the movie:
(Peter not sensing the banana)
(Peter not sensing Nick Fury in the room)
(Peter not sensing everything around him in the pub was an illusion)
(Finally, Peter not being able to decide whether Happy is real or fake)
Now here we wonder, why is that happening?
Take into account the events of Infinity War. When Thanos snapped his fingers, unlike others, Peter could sense his death coming, that's why he fell into Tony's arms saying, “Mr Stark I don't feel so good”. Imagine such a terrible thing happening to you, feeling the pain everywhere yet not being able to fix it. This could and HAS led to post traumatic stress in Peter. PTSD leads to changes in the body and impotence is one of them. Also the added trauma of his mentor dying? Anyone's mind could've become fucked up after that.
“Okay, so where are you going with this?” you must be thinking.
Well, what if Peter sensed something was unnatural about the water monster (other than the fact it was a monster made up of water, of course) so he shot something at it, just because? But he turned out to be “wrong” because it went right through the drones. He was right about it, but he didn't know then.
Wrongly sensing something so big like that would have created some serious self doubt in Peter.
That's why he must have discarded every tingle in his skin that sensed the illusions around Mysterio in the pub. That's why he must have ignored the possibility of someone being in his and Ned's room. That's why he asked Happy if he was real when he got off the plane.
It's because he was doubting himself and the very abilities that made him Spiderman.
Peter wasn't dumb. He was right about shooting a web at the water monster.

every marvel fan has a list of mcu characters they simply do not give two flying fucks about and that’s just facts
Everyone but Tony and his Loved ones
If we had two moons people would get into dumb fights over which one was better so we dodged a bullet there.
I’ll show you!!!
Left Moon is way better!
Who’s with me?
please stay ‘till I am sleeping
I realized you can’t destroy power. All you can do is make sure that it’s in the right hands.
What’s hilarious about the “Tony is the True Villian [sic] of the MCU” hot takes is that none of these people crafting these “think-pieces” have actually thought about what they’re saying.
Have they well and truly considered how fucked everyone would be if Tony really wanted to go full big bad? If Tony embraced the god-given powers of his goatee and went supervillain?
If Tony Stark truly was a villain…
He wouldn’t have stopped producing weapons. In fact, he’d probably use the arc reactor technology to make even more powerful weapons of mass destruction. These weapons he could then use to line his pockets, becoming even more insanely wealthy – or…?
He could’ve enacted the Iron Legion protocol and successfully taken over the world because the other heroes wouldn’t have been around (or were too inexperienced/weak to fight someone as formidable as Iron Man at the time). Like, imagine if Tony had started work on his project to put Iron Man suits “around the world.” We saw just a glimpse of that in Age of Ultron. It was hella scary.
And if none of that happened? If Tony just up and decided to turn coat outta the blue? Then he could’ve killed all his “allies” (the Avengers) at any time he wanted, because he knows all their weaknesses, where they live, etc. He makes their tech. If he wanted, he could exploit it and end their lives. Clint’s arrows? Suddenly go boom in his quiver. Nat’s widow bites? Suddenly overcharge, electrocuting her to death. You get the picture.
Tony wouldn’t have bothered stopping the Mandarin. Wouldn’t have bothered saving the President of the United States.
Could’ve easily killed Cap and the others in Civil War if he’d really wanted them “out of the way” to further his own agenda.
Hell, he’d probably do such an efficient job cleaning house, Thanos might even be impressed. Adopting him as a “Child of Thanos.” Do you think evil Tony would care about half the population of Earth getting wiped? No. Not if he was guaranteed safe.
My point? Supervillain Tony would have wiped. the. floor. Tony has the mental acumen, financial capital, and tech to cause massive damage. Even take over the damn world.
It’s lucky for Earth that Tony has such a strong moral compass and decided to be a hero. Because if Tony were a villain? Earth would be beyond screwed.
Sometimes I am tempted to write a Villain!Tony story just out of spite. Kinda in a Gone Girl fashion.
Also because Villain!Tony would be smoking hot.
Please! I am, no lie, tempted to do the same. If anything, just to live through the scenario of what it would be like if Tony were truly as evil, no-good, awful as his detractors claim him to be. Like.. can we imagine one day Tony wakes up and he’s just, “I’m gonna be evil now.”
Pepper: “Did you say evil? Thank god. I’ve been wanting to try black lipstick.”
Tony: "F.R.I.D.A.Y., initiate the BACKSTAB Protocol.”
F.R.I.D.A.Y.: “On it, boss.”
[5 minutes later]
F.R.I.D.A.Y.: “All Stark Industries-issued tech not on the premises has self-destructed. The Avengers have been eliminated.”
Tony: “Excellent. No one to stand in the way of phase 2 of my nefarious scheme. Launch Iron Legion 2.0, F.R.I.”
[30 minutes later]
Maria Hill: “Sir, there’s reports of Iron Man armor in 200 countries. They’re demanding leaders to surrender or they will start killing.”
Nick Fury: “Did Stark just take over the world in a day?!”
Maria Hill: “Actually, it only took him the morning, sir.”
Tony Stark Stans: TONY STARK IS ALIVE AND WELL AND WITH HIS FAMILY

Tony Stark Stans:
Robert calling us out on our stages of grief 😭yes we’re bargaining but sir you look like you’re still grieving too 😭😭 but totally respect and understand that he’s done with this and wants to keep it classy. [Full video in the source]
That’s the closest to a confirmation we can get from Robert that he wasn’t happy with Tony’s ending initially, and how they ‘convinced’ him. As in a ‘pretty brutal education on what kind of process these movies require, you just start trusting more they’re thinking on your behalf. little things are easy to change, big things become an inconvenience to the higher good.‘
[Full video in the source, it’s a really insightful and detailed interview]
When everything else about these heroes is forgotten, this is what was still remembered: not their weaknesses, or their rivalries with one another– not their regrets, or their secrets. Not their scars.
We remembered that when evil rose up, in the name of death or conquest or tyranny, they stood against it. No matter how powerful or terrifying, they stood against it.
And they prevailed.
