Evaluation
Throughout this last project I went through many different ideas but the one i settled for I think has worked really well for me as it was a topic i was very interested in so was able to engage and create work of that i am proud of. I think my final outcome visually ties in with the content because of the newspaper elements i added to the design of the book and I made sure that any other outcome was visually linked to the others as I wanted to create a cohesive body of work.
I made sure to heavily research my subject so that I could put together an argument against the clear media political bias in today’s press to raise awareness of the corrupt system that is delivering the public’s “news”. I thought it was an important subject to address as it’s an injustice, even after the leveson enquiry about the phone hacking scandal news media companies are still able to publish distorted and inaccurate stories and brand it public interest, it’s dangerous. My visual research was mainly editorial based to get design inspiration to help create a visually powerful layout that matches the subjects addressed in the book.
As I had gone through a couple of ideas before I reached my final one an outcome design had to come to me pretty quickly so the development of my final piece isn’t as varied as I’d want it to be but any changes are documented. Had I come to my idea quicker and had more time more visual and content experiments would have taken place but as I had big ideas and included a lot of content I found I just had to get on and make the book and then make small changes here and there to refine the design of it.
I am very pleased with the overall design of my book and posters and think they get across the themes I wish to convey. A lot of thought and planning went into the actual construction of my book as my folded inserts caused a lot of trouble when it came to figuring out how to bind them so many mock ups were made to try and work out how to bind and especially paginate as my fold outs were seperate signatures so the content of the book had to be rearranged in order for there not to be any blank pages when putting the inserts back in.
I have enjoyed this unit very much as well as my time at uni, bring on the show!
