I want to explain something that’s happening on Latin American social media.

There’s a dish called “Rosca de Reyes”, it’s a cake with slices of fruit. Inside of it, they place a small baby shaped figure that represents baby Jesus. This year, in Mexico, people were selling the cake with figures of Baby Yoda instead of the baby Jesus. So, conservative groups are extremely upset about it, and are calling it a direct attack to family values and religion. So now, Baby Yoda is considered a LGBT icon for making furious those conservative, homophobic people.

Just a small clarification, the little babies inside the bread don’t represent Jesus, they represent the children that had to be hidden from Herod in what is known as the “Masacre of the innocents”.

This resulted in people defending the baby Yodas inside the rosca by comparing the Massacre of the Innocents to the Padawan Massacre. Someone did a full comparison between the two which is circulating on facebook and offending a lot of conservative people.

Frente Nacional por la Familia is a very religious, homophobic, anti feminist organisation that is known for their marches against equal marriage, gay adoption, abortions, divorce, gender ideology, sex education in schools, etc. So the fact that putting tiny plastic figures inside a piece of bread offends them makes me so happy.
