The funniest thing about this
Is like why would Brymsythe have it? Did he make it?
Raishan: After this is done, we go our separate ways and never speak to each other again.
Brymsythe holding his cool rug he made: Never?

CRITICAL ROLE vs. THE LEGEND OF VOX MACHINA
THE FEAST OF REALMS (1x03)
Extremly pissed and dissapoined in BWF for ignorant comments mocking, cursing out and disrespcting SWANA and POC voices who are rightfully critisizing the colonial orientalist lens that's shining through the Critical Role intro. I was personally going to ignore the intro problems but the response from him and from large parts of the fandom is disgusting.
As soon as I saw Liam in the intro I was like "oh cool he's wearing a Palestinian Kuffiyeh" but then my mood immediatly spoiled when I recognized the full concept.
The into of the campaign based on MENA cultures being from "classic" American and western explorer movies such as Indiana Jones is extremly tone deaf. Those movies paint us in racist, sterotyped way. They are filled to the fucking brim with colonial and imperial themes. And when Indiana wears our cultural desert garb It's appropriation not appreciation
These movies are about foreigners stealing or destroying our culture and artifacts being painted as heros and paints natives as the evil enemies.
There's also the fact that these movies reflect real life events like western museums being full of stolen artifacts from our cultures and even the skulls and bones of ingedious people who were murdered by colonisers. They are proudly shown to this day
So BWF, a white american man, decided to "defend" his fellow white american friends by qrting people from the culture targeted so he can insult and belittle them, and tell them their wrong about their own culture.
Im not going to share all of Brian's extremly condescending responses that keep claiming there isnt a problem and that people are just "attacking cr" as if theyre not making full threads that explicitly explain the problems. Not to mention the rabid hordes of horrid "critters" who also jumped to harass those he qrts
Im writing all this out to very clearly express that this ISNT OK. Its very harmful and frankly hurtful to me and many others who are part of the culture being misrepresented and mocked.
I didnt think CR had any bad or evil intentions with the into. I dont even think they though to show it or pass it through the sensitivity consultants because they didnt see a probably need. But this is the type of thing I was dreading to see when this campagin started
[ID: A quoted retweet from Erika Ishii @.erikaishii. The original tweet is by Ashe Jacobson @.OffBrandLink and reads: “No one’s ever gonna believe that I just started a beyblade battle between @.erikaishii and @.executivegoth in the middle of the streets of downtown LA but I swear it happened.” Erika’s retweet reads: “Believe it.” There’s a video attached of said Beyblade battle, with Erika and Taliesin crouching over a bucket and releasing high-powered spinning tops called Beyblades. They’re both screaming for their Beyblade to win, as are the few people clustered around them. When Erika’s Beyblade knocks Taliesin’s over first, they are the winner. /end ID]
This is what I saw in my head when those three sneaked behind the warehouse. You know, ✨the best people for a stealth mission✨
Love them!! <3
[ID: an exaggerated, simplistic drawing of ashton, laudna, and dorian in sneaking poses. asthon is in front, his head glowing with green and yellow light. laudna is in the middle, dripping black goop from her fingers. dorian is in the back, his hair flowing majestically, surrounded by yellow sparkles. below them is written, “absolutely inconspicuous bunch of people just stealthing around.” END ID]
[ID: A tweet answered by Matthew Mercer @.matthewmercer. The original tweet by Siobhan @.wokenhardies reads: “@matthewmercer ooh im so worried about this but multiple characters mention speaking marquesian in this episode. we know zemnian was equivalent to german, what language is marquesian equivalent to?” Matt’s response is “Zemnian has no specific language equivalent, but since Liam wanted to use his love of German for Caleb, it became a narrative reference/tool. The many other languages of Exandria (Elvish, Dwarvish, Marquesian) can have references, but do not really have any direct equivalents.” /end ID]
There's a new interview out in SyFyWire with Laura and Liam about campaign 3 that I totally missed yesterday. This was the most interesting part to me:
[ID: Screenshot of a paragraph from an interview with Liam O'Brien. It reads: "'Marisha knows pretty much everything for my character, but that's because I didn't want to steamroll over any ideas she has about Kyleth from the past,' O'Brien says. 'Orym has story connections to her, it's not going to be overwhelming to his story, I don't think, but I definitely wanted to stay in my lane so I checked a lot of stuff with her.'" The misspelling of Keyleth is in the original text.]
The Ranger and The Rogue
quiet walk home
I've seen people point out the main difference between Campaign 2 and Campaign 3 as "no callbacks allowed until level 10" vs. "callbacks to C1 for everyone!" but I think there's a little more to it than that.
C2 and C3 were built to accomplish very different things and tell very different stories (which I'm super into). Coming straight off of C1, C2 very much had to prove that Critical Role as a show could stand on its own two feet and last as a successful show outside of Vox Machina. They had to commit to no callbacks, both to build out the whole world more and to prove their storytelling could be compelling outside of the story they told already.
C3 on the other hand doesn't really have that burden, and so they're open to do something super interesting which is: explore the long-term consequences of things they did as other characters in different campaigns. And since this is only 8 years after C2, those long-term consequences are mostly going to come from C1.
So C3 gets to ask: "What happened to the ordinary people of Whitestone who VM couldn't save or had to sacrifice?" "What's it like for ordinary citizens living under Keyleth in Zephrah?" "What are the consequences of VM opening a fey gate for Artagan, and what other fey creatures might have crossed over?" "If people like Tary create automatons, or they are awakened and come down from Aeor, what is life like for those creatures if they gain sentience?" "What happened to Bertrand Bell anyway?"
I'm interested to see if there are some less obvious C1 "consequence" connections for characters like Imogen and Ashton.
he’s in good hands
Oh, the chaos
[ID: A total of four tweets from Matthew Mercer @.matthewmercer which together read: “A little look under the hood for Ep 3…#CriticalRoleSpoilers Sooooo that was fun! Another little bit of a glance at what led to the end if tonight’s session: Travis wanted his C3 character to join in a little bit down the road (not unlike many classic JRPGs), but it led to an issue… I wanted Travis at the table and present for the first episode at least or more! When given the option to create a character, he was inspired to bring Sir Bertrand Bell back for this purpose, and we discussed the means of his exit. Travis proposed the “grim end”, but agreed he would not know how or when and such, we anchored Bertrand into the story and watched where things went! Do not fret… Travis will return in the near future with his “true” C3 character, and it is gonna be a BLAST to see the paths collide!” /end ID]
