[ Wife. ]

“If I do, it’s only because it is the first step in our.. relationship. I know you may not think of it, but I could not sleep in a bed where other women have made love to you.”

It wasn’t jealousy, on Aphrodite’s part — sometimes she wondered if she was incapable of that particular emotion, giving what and who she was.

     “ Only speaking of what I observe, my Wife. A tendency of mine      since the longest of times. --- Valid point, valid point. ” 

   She seemed to be displaying the sense of emotion that Hephaestus assumed to be    only possession of another’s cherished one.

[ Brother. ]

Even in choking heat of the forge, the bottle was crisp and cool, perspiration making it gleam like a nymph leaving a spring. Fingers around it’s neck, Ares offered his brother the bottle, taking a long drag from his own as he did. The sweet taste of honey and the bitter, hoppy delight of the brew swirled along his throat. 

“Still, their faces when it broke the engine block-A thing of beauty. I should’ve taken a picture.”

   A grip, swift and firm of the bottle now idly held for the moment, seeing how as of now    Ares began to talk. Intriguing, there must be more to the bigger picture, Hephaestus for    now kept that personal thought to himself alone. All seemed to be... Too welcoming. Too    good, even for a deity. 

     “ Can’t have glory without a little bit of show, can we? ”

[ Wife. ]

She smiled, a little, at his offering to change the word — even here, even now, he would not hate his own brother. Would Ares be so compassionate? He was, after all the god of war, and was not known for his ability to be kind or understanding. She looked up, finally, into the dark, coal-black eyes that Hephaestus possessed, and her fingers passed over his jaw and cheek, tucking his long hair behind his ear. She was affectionate, just so, and then her fingers fell to the naked expanse of his chest.

               “I am promising you, husband, that I will attempt                 this, for you, and for me, and I will do my best to                 not falter. I just ask you not judge me too harshly.”

She was not used to having her motives questioned; not used to having someone ask of her these kinds of things. She rose up on the tips of bare toes to kiss him, soft and sweet, a kiss evocative of the kind of goddess she was, or was meant to be.

  Hate would be a strong word for even Hephaestus. For his Brother, he finds    contempt only for this... Catastrophe, -- in one way or another, they have all    brought down upon each other. How different she was to when his attempt at    communication was seen, let alone to grasp what he now publicly desired.    Bright, clear blue eyes to behold in his Wife’s divine eyes -- how long was    she not like this before him? He kept himself at bay -- but the words were,    -- for once genuine to his ears.

     “ You know where my faults have lied. --- Likewise to you,      my Wife. I ask the same in return, and will do the same in      return just as well. ” 

   Accepting her kiss, sweet as she was made to be, in all of her fibers, it was    quite the... Resolution for Hephaestus to undertake and fathom. As she kissed    him, a burdened hand hovered where Aphrodite’s rested at.

[ Persephone. ]

“Brother mine, how are you?” 

Persephone stood at the doorway to his forge, smiling despite the heat that radiated from the fires within. She was rarely seen here but today was different. She was risking a rare visit to Olympus to seek out her half brother. She normally would enjoy a visit with him to simply speak with him, considering she knew so little of her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews and all the relations that had multiplied in her years spent away from Olympus, but today the visit was one of purpose. She wished to commission something of her brother, for her husband. 

“Hēphaistos? Are you here?”

   A response was not given, yet. 

   Away was he from the Forge, Hephaestus was for once, despite for even being    a deity, was resting him, a break if once could say that in the vision of the Forge    -master. To hear a name, a voice far more foreign to the likes of his lonesome    domain, he would step up from a simplistically made chair within his quarters,    entering into the core of his Palace. Meeting his eyes was a woman, like her    own voice, foreign even to the terms of his own Wife. -- Persephone, if he would    last recall correctly. A smile on his lips, welcoming but somewhat faint, distant    almost, amused to see the “Bride” of Hades to be here. Hephaestus’s words were    of concise nature, but filled with greeting.

     “ -- I am now, Persephone. ”

[ Athena. ]

“Brother, you are one of a very few people I explicitly expect  honesty from. Do you still have references of them? I wish I  could have seen them.”

    “ Good, I suggest you keep that well and fresh into     your mind, Sister. --- You know I rarely keep reference      of most of my works, for the references lie within those       who use my arms with pride and distinction. ”

[ Wife. ]

She did a little dance where she was standing, and took his exasperated sigh as a token of her victory, and then she leaned in to dust a kiss over his cheek, not making mention of the soot that ended up on her cheek.    “Thank you, husband. I do appreciate it. You will      like what I come up with, I swear.”

  Silly, but amusing to witness his Wife dance around so aimlessly for such...    A decisive victory over her “poor”, “poor” Husband. Letting her place the kiss    upon his cheek, which made him look to his side over to Aphrodite. 

     “ You sound rather excited for this, hm? ”

[ Wife. ]

“Not jewelry, Hephaestus. Fabrics.”  He lived sparsely, which she expected; he was never flashy, never interested in material things. He made them, but rarely to keep. Tapping her fingers against her lips. “You should just leave this to me..”

   A sigh, long, and slightly exasperated as if nearly defeated before his tasteful    divine Wife. He created, he did not wish to keep or adorn himself with fashion    and expression. His face was shown so harshly in public when called for by    anyone. 

     “ -- You win yet again, Wife. ”

[ Wife. ]

“You ought to know that the bedroom is the place you fall asleep, and the first place you see when you wake up. It ought to be nice.”  She turned to look at him, gazing up and down for a moment. “There is a bed I think will suit you. It is wrought iron, and made to look like branches fashioned into a bed. What are your thoughts on deep jewel tones, like garnet and emerald?”

     “ Lovely habits I have adorned, I know. ” 

   A gaze from her eyes to his bedroom, to the surroundings that made up his    bedroom, only to return his attention to his Wife. 

       “ -- If you insist for some jewelry... Garnet, yes. As for emerald...        No. Rustic, or darker gemstones only, Aphrodite. ”

[ Wife. ]

“Well, no, I don’t.”

But she smiled anyway, and put her hands on her hips, looking back over the room to survey it. She bit her lower lip. “I think we ought move the bed over there. And you need more light.”

     “ -- Well, I had meant that so we can both enjoy ourselves. ”

   Likewise to her earlier words spoken at her Husband. A smile of his own, al    -though subtle, it was warmed by the Other’s smile. Dry would his humor be    at the Goddess as he spoke.

     “ I had forgotten my Wife is the premier decorator. ”

[ Wife. ]

She balled up the offensive bedding — though it was nothing more than coarse linen sheets and a brown comforter — and put it off to the side. Turning to look at him, she arched a brow.        “Agree? What, you think I’ll douse your quarters in pinks?         You’ll like what I have in mind.”

   Oh, where he hasn’t found himself in a situation like this before his Wife.     But, she has had her own --- eventful situations against Hephaestus. It     was a circular repetition for the both of them. Standing upright, gazing     to his Wife simply. 

     “ Hush yourself. You knew what I had meant. ”

[ Brother. ]

“The tank was proving obstinate. You have my thanks, brother. Where will I leave the drink? Or are you just going to forget it’s there again?”

     “ --- Rather, it was proven to be... Poor. ” 

   He would nod in silence to his Brother’s thanks, only to cock his brow in    subtle intrigue of the wording. Ares, being observant whenever he left the    Forge? How interesting. 

     “ Hand it to me, that way you won’t fret over      wasted mead. ”

[ Wife. ]

“I’m being thoroughly serious, Hephaestus. It won’t do.” She started to pull it off the bed, humming.

     “ You are the one with the eyes of taste, Aphrodite.        I suggest guiding me so that we can agree on what        we should have. ” 

   -- He subtly admired her build, as Hephaestus should of his Wife.

[ Athena. ]

“Must you judge me so harshly? …Alright, you’re not far off the mark there. What was the last piece you made that you enjoyed making?”

     “ Would you rather have me not be honest like        some others? --- Relics that have not been asked        for in a haughty, indignant manner. ”

[ Emma. ]

                  “You are far more intelligent than the men I know.                    That much is certain if you are confident in your                    assessment.” 

Oh look at that, she’d been caught. How interesting - she’d been gentle. Barely even a feather light touch to forefront. Her brow raises, amusement quirking her lips slightly at the edge. She can rightfully impressed she was right now. 

                  “I’ve done nothing to you nor do I plan to do anything.                     I simply wished to know if you had ill intent.”

    “ I am simply not stupid, Emma. ” 

   His statement was one of correction, hinted by clear assurance of what she deemed    to be intelligence. Gentle was a facade, there was something still odd of her being, as    if she held powers from his sight. So he was more straightforward than ever. 

     “ You seem to have sort of powers. --- What were you wishing      to know of me by only just... Touch? It’s peculiar to inquire by      only touch alone. ”

[ Wife. ]

            “But surely your consorts objected to sleeping under              this.. burlap-like cloth?”  She picked up the edge of the blanket, before letting it fall back down against the best.

     “ --- Humorous, darling. Very, very humorous. ” 

   A cocked eyebrow expression was now given, such a sharply witty statement    from the Beloved Goddess.

[ Athena. ]

“Do I attempt things in any other way? Oh, you make it sound as if you’re not enjoying yourself.”

     “ Only if angered, then I would say no      --- This would depend who calls for my      assistance. ”

[ Wife. ]

“If we are to share a bed, Hephaestus, I’m going  to have to insist on better bed coverings..”

     “ -- I present arms, blades, and tools, Wife. I am        not so much a master of... Fabric making. ” 

   He chuckled.
