ONE WEEK TO GO!
Listen up. Listen closely.
As Hillsong Conference Europe 2015 draws closer, the air begins to fill thick and fast with excitement and expectation. Excitement of what God is going to do and say over the few days we're at The O2, one of the greatest landmarks we have in London and an expectation that God is going to do above and far greater than we could ever think or imagine. Because His ways are greater than ours, right?
The theme of this year's conference is "Speak, we're listening" whilst the theme for Kidsong is "Listen Up." Conference is a time and place where both kids and adults alike can come together in fellowship and just worship in spirit and in truth. It is also the place to come and hear the voice of God. To hear about His great plan and purpose for our lives and for the Church; to hear how much He truly and utterly loves us and for every single person - man, woman and child - to encounter and experience Him for themselves.
It will be my first time serving at conference this year and I am terribly excited to be serving at Kidsong and to be serving along an amazing team of people who are committed to seeing children come to know and encounter Jesus. Serving on the Voltage team during Kidsong will be a huge learning experience in terms of developing more of the fruit of the spirit, viewing faith through a child's eyes whilst learning to be child-like in faith too because I learn a lot from the kids. They lead me in some ways too! I am also excited about gaining a fresh perspective on being involved in a kid's ministry and learning to become a better leader since we will have teams from all over Europe serving alongside us. We will definitely not be lacking in innovation and inspiration! Conference is a time to learn and lean into what God is using us for right now.
I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo excited for conference because I get to serve and participate in a bigger picture that is bigger than I could ever perceive. God put us on here, in this moment for such a time as this. I see the next few weeks as a chance to surrender to God and lean into the God frequencies to hear His voice. God IS going to speak to us, whether it be from Him directly, through a sermon or through another person. God WILL speak. Be expectant. It is my prayer that God speaks to all of us, especially the kids, and that we actually open our ears to listen to what He is saying.
Speak Lord, we're listening.

Fear Busters!
We are in our fourth week of the Fear Busters curriculum in Voltage and the kids are really opening up about some of the fears.
Our main scripture for this month has been Psalm 34:4 I PRAYED TO THE LORD, AND HE ANSWERED ME. HE FREED ME FROM ALL MY FEARS.
Nearly all members of the Voltage Team have the great privilege and responsibility of leading a Connect Group for kids â we call them Kids Discipleship Groups (KDGs) or Tribes. After praise and worship, prayer, the giving message and the word being preached, we split all the kids up into their connect groups by age and discuss what was preached about as well as the theme for the month. There are questions to get us started off but the main thing is for us to personalise our connect group time and prepare during the week for this time. Â
We started the month talking about the importance of prayer and setting the foundation to show the Voltage kids that they can talk to God about absolutely anything. That week I was amazed to see that the kids really understood that they had access to God at ALL times.
The second week of the programme we spoke about how the Israelite spies in Numbers chapter 13 who gave a bad report and discouraged others because they were afraid of what they saw (all except Caleb and Joshua). We talked a bit about the different things we are/have been afraid of in our lives. You would not be surprised that things like spiders and tarantulas appeared on the list quite a few times! What did surprise me were some of the kids saying things like âIâm afraid of letting my parents down by not getting the best grades in my examsâ, âIâm afraid of earthquakes, âIâve always been afraid of someone breaking into our homeâ.
These latter examples really shocked me because these are not just fears of things that can physically attack and harm you like snakes or spiders but these are fears that are fuelled by worry and dread. These types of fears involve a seed of doubt taking root and slowly growing until they become a fully blown fear â it is these types of fears that keep some adults awake at night and it really touched me that some of our Voltage kids were dealing with these too.
I saw the opportunity to link this teaching back to our first week when we talked about prayer and how God answers prayer and I encouraged them when they pray to talk about their fears  with God and we went through scriptures like Hebrews 13:6 (NIrV) We can say boldly, âThe Lord helps me. I will not be afraid. What can a mere man do to me?â and Isaiah 41:10 (NIrV) âSo do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. My powerful right hand will take good care of you.â I encouraged them to read scriptures on what God says about fear when they are at home and reminded them what a testimony it would be to their friends if they overcame their fears.
One of my High Voltage kids (I also lead a group of kids who serve on Team) mentioned that there are 365 mentions of âfear notâ in the Bible â one for every day of the year and this really continued to encourage the kids. We ended our connect group with one of the kids praying that the chains of fear would be broken from each and every one of their lives.
The following week I had each of the kids in my connect group take in turns reading from the story of Esther (the part where she had to go before the king). I asked them how they thought she must have felt and how she surrendered it all to God. We then looked at some more scriptures on fear like Psalm 56:3 (NIRV) âWhen Iâm afraid, I will trust in youâ and I asked them at the end of our connect group how they were doing in combating their fears and what helped them. They all mentioned prayer as their main source of comfort but they also started telling me that they were using the scriptures we had been through at home with one saying that she had written Psalm 34:4 visibly in her room for her to remember it!
I am truly enjoying seeing God work through the Voltage kidsâ lives and seeing them build a solid foundation so that as they grow they will have some of these things ingrained in them and will not allow anyone speak words of fear over them because they know their God is greater.
We have a one more week of the âFear Bustersâ curriculum and I cannot wait to see what God does in the Voltage kids next!Â

The Ultimate Gift
A thing that has been on my mind for a while now, has been our gifts. And I don't mean the physical "oh-I-bought-you-a-birthday-present" gift or a "last-minute-it-was-on-sale" gift. But the gift of the spiritual kind. The gift that God deposited in us the minute we were born or saved. A gift that can be used to bless others and not ourselves. A gift that can help build the Body of Christ. A gift that can bring children to Christ. It has been a wonderfully eye-opening couple of weeks, where I have seen gifts in others develop (not only in myself) and flourish where it is actually building the Church of Christ. I have in seen this all happen whilst being on team with Voltage plus we've also had a great time teaching the kids on gifts and talents that they have!
In Romans 1:11, Paul longs to join the Roman church so that he can bring them a spiritual gift that will help them grow STRONG in the Lord. In 1st Corinthians 12, Paul goes on to say (verses 4-7 NLT), "There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord, God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other." See, here I believe that Paul emphasises that God does not give us a gift just for our benefit and our use only but to help others!
The amazing thing about being on team in Voltage, is that I get to watch all the marvellous gifts God has given to both the kids and the team and see it flourish within them. The thing is, they may just think they are just doing their own thing and serving God but they are not aware that what they do REALLY blesses everyone else around them. Their gift helps me to see the glory and the greatness of God, which is what the Lord intended their gift for! Awesome, isn't it?!
In each unique child I see every Sunday, I see the glory of God within them. I see dancers, preachers, singers, actors - crazy talented children who will grow up to display their gifts for the Lord. And in each team member, I see people crazy in love with God and willing to serve in whatever way possible and that inspires me completely. We have preachers, teachers, people who are wise, encouragers and much more on our team! Each specially crafted person has a gift that blesses me (and others) in addition to helping the kids grow strong in the Lord.
But what poses a problem is "what if I don't know what my gift is? What if I'm gift-less? How will I be useful if I'm gift-less?" First, everyone has a gift (Romans 12:6) so you actually CANNOT be gift-less. Second, if you don't know what your gift is, pray for God to reveal it to you along with walking humbly serving the Lord. Honestly, you will stumble upon your gift. So, just keep walking with the Lord and stepping out in faith for we are baptised into the Body of Christ so you can't be useless! The eye needs the leg as much as the leg needs the eye! We have to work together for the Kingdom!
Seeing everyone who is on team exhibit their own gifts has been extremely humbling because no two people have the same gift. Each person is useful in their own area of life on team and we all come together and bring an awesome service to the kids, praying that these kids encounter Christ each Sunday and help them grow STRONG in the Lord as Paul was with the Roman Church. In Matthew 19:14, Jesus says He wants the children to come to Him. And I strongly believe that He has given us gifts to draw them near to Him. The ultimate gift to God is to utilize the gifts He has given us to glorify Him in all walks of life. So not only do we bless God, we literally bless everyone around us. Don't be selfish with your gift!
Let us all walk in the marvellous gifts that God has given us and bless those around us!

Victorious Generation
I could not think of a better time to talk to you about the victorious generation than now.
In Arcade (a collection of ministry groups at Hillsong Church London) for the last few months we have been exploring the concept of being the âVictorious Generationâ - we in Voltage started to look at what being part of a victorious generation would look like for our kids and trying to get them to understand this in a more practical way.
On Easter Sunday this year we got the kids in Voltage to share some of their testimonies of how they came to Christ, there were some kids who had come to Christ after being born in Christian families, many whose parents were first generation Christians and some who had been brought to church by a family friend and eventually convinced their parents to take them to church (I love that our church is so diverse!). At the end of our Easter service we had an altar call and asked if there were any kids who had not already accepted Christ that would like to accept Him as their Lord and saviour and we followed this up by speaking to the parents of the children who had made this life-changing decision. Â
I truly enjoyed seeing these kids showing victory over evil through making this bold decision to dedicate their lives to Christ and I am so happy we were able to facilitate letting the little children come to Him (Matthew 19:14), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The following Sunday we then taught about why we should share the story of salvation with others and tell others about Jesus giving them examples of stories from the book of Acts. The scripture we fixated on was Mark 16:15 where Jesus said âGo into all the world and preach the gospel to all creationâ we looked at how they could do this in their relational groups at school, not just through what they say but how they treat people; i.e. with kindness, sharing and putting others before ourselves and we equipped them with tools to share the love of Jesus with others. Our Voltage kids are amazing with applying practical things that they learn on a Sunday to their week, I know that we often have our kids bring their non-believing friends to church and I know that the week after this teaching one of my High Voltage kids brought his younger cousins to church and they got to experience why he loves church so much and he got to serve them and show the love of Jesus in a very practical way.
In the final week of the âVictorious Generationâ teaching we spoke about how Jesus was willing to do whatever it took to save people, which in His case meant dying on the cross. We looked at John 10:10 and what it means to have an abundant and full life linking it to being more than conquerors through Christ like in Romans 8:37-39. For because of this abundant life on earth and eternal life in heaven Jesus saw the cross set before Him as COMPLETELY worth it.
I said at the beginning of this blog entry that I could not think of a better time to talk about the victorious generation than now. Thatâs not only because our generation needs to know about walking victoriously in Christ but because I have just come back from a weekend of Colour Conference (our yearly womenâs conference at Hillsong) where we taught about strength under humility and purpose in each personâs life, I left the conference fully  victorious.
These past few weeks of teaching the Voltage kids about the victorious generation aligns perfectly with one of the messages taught at Colour Conference by Beth Moore where she talked about impacting a generation for Christ and she breaks down one of her points into 3 parts saying that to communicate Christâs message effectively to the next generation we have to communicate:
1) Christâs story â we teach the kids using the word of God and they often give us examples from the Bible that they enjoy when telling others about Jesus
2) Their story â using their testimony and what God has done in their lives to draw others to Christ
3) Our story - the why we do what we do and how the story of Jesus and their individual story ties to the story of the church which helps them live life more abundantly.
We hear weekly testimonies of victory, from kids writing praise reports of healings at the beginning of our Sunday services, to kids parents telling me differences that they have seen in their childrenâs lives and then even seeing the changes in kidsâ lives myself really inspires and encourages me to see that everyone, no matter which age group they are in can live a life of victory.
