Captured Soviet KV-1 tanks from the 8th Panzer Division of the Wehrmacht
The German MG42 heavy machine gun was intended to replace the earlier MG34. The design proved to be a highly reliable weapons platform with a very high cyclic rate of fire averaging 1,200 rounds per minute compared to 850 for the MG34. The weapons system itself was so robust and effective, it is still in service with several armed forces around the world, some seventy nine years after its conception.
