“Detective? Ha!”
With a snorted chortle of a sound his smile grew wider a moment.
“That’s above my pay grade, I’d not be talking to you in that position. But I digress.”
As he gazed as well as he could towards the large one’s eyes, his own grew dire once more as he peered curiously.
“Listen, while I’m not in the business of secret keeping like yourself, it’s rather more of a cold than I’ve got.”
With a gleam of his eye, his voice grew gravely and visceral. Yet, no tone of a threat left his throat.
“Perhaps we could learn from each other, this day. I mean the contract is still why I’m here, but I’m entirely comfortable walking away without second thought if you’d let me in on what you actually are. Rather, how you are what you are.”
Auro’s face hardened slightly as he heard the stranger’s voice change. He didn’t know exactly what he was, but he calmed down slightly as he presented his proposition.
“You’ll leave me alone if I tell you how I got like this? Fine. I’ll bite.”
He sat on the ground, hands in his lap.
“I used to live in a small shithole village down in the south east of the region. Not too big. Not too affluent. I was the man of the town. The talk on everyone’s lips. Apparently, people didn’t like my fame. I was a little too…confident for people’s tastes. So, they managed to find some little magic spell that they thought could shut me down with. They found one. The curse is designed to force the victim to live with their biggest flaw. Mine was apparently an oversized ego. So here I am. A caricature of my pride. And…I became like this, a g-gi-…yeah. What I am now.”
He began to choke on his words, his fists balled with rage. He slammed a fist into the ground in anger, sighed deeply and squinted at the man.
“There. You have my sob story. Now scram.”
As the ground shifted with the tall one’s fist, Lynn felt the vibrations through himself and took a deep sigh of appreciation. His gaze locked hard with the other and he cleared his throat, affording his voice it’s natural timbre.
“I have a considerable feeling that you don’t get to speak about this on common grounds all that often tall one. I smell your anger. Yet I take no whiff of self pity. You’re confident in yourself, and I think you deserve to know why I am as well.”
Glancing about for a moment to ensure he had only one viewer, he clutched at his heart with an elongated sigh as his features began to shift. Fur took to sprouting from his skin as his physique shifted outwards and upwards, gaining size and weight.
Within what seemed like mere seconds, Lynn’s form shifted drastically. His humanity seemed lost as he grew monstrous. A Werewolf in the mans clothes stood in the same spot, crossbow still slung on his back. With a second almost grotesque sigh, the same look of pride fell across the beast’s muzzle with a wry smile.
“We all have our little secrets tall one.”
His voice croaked with the same animalistic intent as previous. His paws padded lightly on the loamy ground as he adjusted himself into his form.
“But I think you’ll find I understand your issues more actively than most. Don’t fear if you can help it, it’s still me under the pelt. That contract seems so far away now.”
