Anni Albers was born this day in 1899. Trained at the Bauhaus in Germany, Albers was appointed acting director of the weaving workshop following her graduation and went on to become one of the leading textile artists of the twentieth century during her nearly seventy–five–year career. Throughout her life, Albers introduced unconventional materials—raffia, corn, grass, and even cellophane— into her compositions, helping to advance weaving as an artistic form.

A few recent pieces. The top one is for HHMI on an article about how scientists must use theory to parse through large amounts of data. The illustration could play off an astronomy/Hubble reference in the article. Big thanks to AD Ellen.
The other two pieces are for InTouch Magazine about the practice of Christianity in different part of China. Big Thanks to AD Eric!

‘Knitting the Universe’: New Mural by Troche
i honestly want to believe this is how the universe was created, some great and powerful woman, didn’t just snap her fingers, no, she knitted it, she took the time to knit every star, every galaxy, every person in to existence. and maybe, just maybe, she’s still going.
