it's so interesting that rafe cannot have a relationship w someone, literally anyone, that isn't a power relationship. like it's a direct consequence of ward's education being so intense around his position as the pater familias (that was strengthened by their mother dying as he became the single parent - sorry rose doesn't count) and class relationships + him bullying rafe and rafe taking it/reproducing on his peers, but wow i can't think of a single relationship that he has where he's not constantly battling for power and dominance and that's why there's conflict in nearly all his relationships and why he can't have friends it doesn't even enter his mind to have a conversation w someone where that element is removed he's constantly wondering what can the other person bring him, what is their utility bc he's such a social outcast in a way. even if he's somewhat integrated in kook society he's still this alien element bc he fundamentally doesn't understand what's a relationship that's not based on profit

maybe i dont notice it but it's interesting to me that so much of obx throughout s2 and 3 has to do w white supremacy like at its core that's what the cross and the royal merchant's gold are abt and yet it still kinda feels like the characters are written in a way that is sort of colourblind (except pope's relationship w the limbreys where it's literally impossible to miss)

I've read Deep Cuts about 6 months ago and honestly at first i didn't really see Drew playing Joe. He's absolutely different appearance than in the book and also other things that i was not sure he's fitting in as the character itself, but we'll see when the movie is out.

i agree lol even in terms of demeanour i don't rlly see it but we know he's surprised us in the past he's quite versatile. also the person that was supposed to play joe before him was austin butler who's even more far removed from joe imo????? ig he's played elvis before but it's rlly not the same type of character. so im rlly curious to see where they're going with that movie cuz i actually think cailee might be a better fit for percy than saoirse was but i don't see it for drew so far
