EXCLUSIVE: Stream The Final Two Tracks From Featherweight and Mowgliâs Split 7â
Putting together a split release is easy. You make friends with another band and then hit them for two tracks to throw onto the B-side of a 7â and then youâre all set. But putting together a really good split? That takes work.
   You need to find a band whose sound compliments yours. You want to sound similar enough that the release makes sense, but you want to be different enough that youâre both bringing something fresh to the table. Itâs like picking the perfect sandwich ingredients. Sure, vegemite and tuna together might sound really interesting, but ultimately itâs going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. On the other hand, you donât want to end up having double servings of the exact same thing.
   With that in mind, Daniel and Adrian from Disposition Records have absolutely nailed it by putting out a split 7â featuring Featherweight from Adelaide and Mowgli from Sydney.
   Both bands play what you might consider to be âemotive hardcoreâ, but they attack the genre from different angles. While Featherweight play fast, and sometimes heavy, hardcore with melodic breaks and drops in tempo (similar to later Miles Away and Mountain Man), Mowgli typically brings a slower pace to the mix, reminiscent of late 90s European skramz in parts. Both just similar enough to mix together nicely, but different enough to keep it interesting.
   Itâs safe to say that Featherweight and Mowgli have brought their best work to this split. Featherweightâs two tracks are a continued step in the right direction from their debut LP, Exhaustion. Their songs here feel stronger and more focused, with a special mention going to vocalist Daniel Smith whose voice has become impressively bigger.Â
   Mowgli have always had a gift for excellent song-writing and their side of the split is their best example of this yet. The bandâs ability to truly flesh out their ideas is what sets them apart from other bands of their age. While some may jump to use a catchy hook or riff, Mowgli take their time to make sure they use it right.
