“Other than the occasional shenanigan, I don’t think he’ll cause trouble. He respects roommate boundaries,” He commented. He didn’t really know how the whole roommate thing worked, considering he didn’t usually have one. Everything was surprisingly undramatic, although he was still worried about his nightmares. “Quantum what? I don’t blame her for passing out. You probably confused her to the point of light headedness.”

Alex nodded at that. Cillian’s shenanigans were rather legendary. Thankfully, he’d never been on the receiving end of one. “I never stayed in my own room, so I wouldn’t know what roommate boundaries are. I’m assuming not touching other people’s stuff has to be one though.” Alex was more of a drifting student, hopping out of one person’s bed to the next in, more often than not, a platonic way. He had an abundance of friends, so he was quick to stay anywhere other than his dorm. “I’d try to explain it, but you’d probably pass out as well. I hear it’s a very confusing topic; can’t testify myself considering physics is only slightly more difficult than counting to ten for me. If it were something like a research paper, though, then I’d be able to relate.”

“I don’t think I’d be able to answer that, considering I couldn’t kill if my own life depended on it, whether I know that person or not. That, and the whole ‘doesn’t believe in serial monogamy’ thing puts a damper on yet another one of the letters. You’d probably be better off asking someone else.”

“I don’t know, I don’t think it is, you can have opulent wealth and be utterly miserable, or you can be flat broke and the happiest person alive. I’m not saying it isn’t important, I mean you need it, but it shouldn’t be something you base your life around,” Daze explained, thinking of her mother as she did. “I wouldn’t call Rowling an example exactly, I mean she’s amazing, but I’d go more with Steven King, Chuck Palahniuk or Kurt Vonnegut, before her. I don’t know who Chuck Tingle is, sorry.”

"Doing what makes you happy is a noble act, but I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree.” Money was what made him happy, it was what controlled many of his decisions. He thought that suffering for one’s art was rather naive, if not a little too empty, a life for someone like him. “Well color me surprised yet again. I’m not sure whether to applaud you or be disappointed that you don’t know who Chuck Tingle is. He’s absolutely revolutionary. Highly recommended.”

|Kit & Alex| Netflix and Chill

Kit laughed at the jab, though it made the heat in his face worse. “Do you always make your, uh, dates the butts of your jokes?” he asked. And he’d meant to see if he could use the word as casually as Alex, but things don’t always go according to plan, especially when your name was Kit Bexley. “You talk a big game for someone who’s poor Playstation sounds like it’s going to kill itself if you ask it to turn on just one more time. I could – I could look at it for you, by the way.” And it was the wrong time to offer, in the midst of flirting, but he hadn’t realized it until the words had left him. 

But the console wasn’t in such poor shape that it needed his magic touch just yet – it came on finally and Alex turned his attention back to it. “You’re most definitely distracting me, Mr. Jardine, but, well, I reckon I can take a break tonight.” And as Alex joined him, suggesting that he dial it down, Kit laughed and shrugged. “I’m just not used to it. Most times with me it’s like wham, bam, thank you, ma’am – so all this teasing, all these pretty little smiles of yours, it’s new to me.” 

And that had sounded much better in his head than it did aloud. He shoved some popcorn into his mouth like he could stop himself from saying anything else stupid.

The proposition for Kit fixing his Playstation sounded absolutely wonderful, but ill-timed. Asking someone to work their magic on one’s console wasn’t a conventional date activity, so he shrugged slightly and put another piece of popcorn in his mouth. “There are many things I want you to do tonight, but none of them involve fixing my game system. Offer again in the morning,” he suggested, knowing how saucy it may have made him sound even though it was more of an empty statement. At most, he would aim for a night of cuddles and lazy kisses, but the looming idea of sex was a fun thought to play on. He smiled sweetly at Kit briefly before turning to flip through the movies on his list. 

He found Stuck in Love in a matter of seconds, but didn’t click on the play button just yet. Instead, he turned to glance at Kit in time to see him shoving more popcorn into his mouth and he quite literally doubled over at the sight. His face was flushed, his shoulders shook, and he gasped for air at the pure delight he was receiving for messing around with Kit. When he simmered it down a little, he let out, “Is that right?” Alex sat back to get close again, nuzzling the other man’s cheek with his nose and letting a mirthful, breathy chortle escape his lips as he placed a chaste kiss upon the surface. As he drew back a few inches, he gave him a fixed, yet soft look. “New is just so much more exciting, don’t you think, Mr. Wham, Bam, Thank you, Ma’am? The chase keeps us on our toes. I take a stride, you take one, push and pull for who knows how long until one of us just...pops.”

Alex was all for the idea of being this intimate with the man if the need arose. It was just that, despite all the innuendos and flirty remarks, Alex could feel something warm inside of him that he lacked with many others—save for Olivia and Emerson. Kit wasn’t some sexual conquest or anything like that; he was someone Alex wanted to experience. To devour.

“Ditto,” she replied. She liked Alex, he was probably the only teacher she had met at Wallings thus far that didn’t make her feel like a freak. “Money isn’t all that matters,” she replied honestly, “but you never know, I could end up like J.K. Rowling, the money seemed to be in literature for her…. and I know they won’t go to waste.”

Daze didn’t seem to be as reserved as new students were, which was a refreshment in itself. Her smile was motivation for him to keep his, and he noticed that there wasn’t much of a layer of discomfort here. It made him question if she came here willingly or not. He could always ask later. “Money is everything,” he said nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders and sitting back in his chair with a wider grin than before. “And if you’re going with Rowling as an inspiration, I can honestly say I didn’t expect it. I pegged you more for a Chuck Tingle.’

| Story Time | Alex & Reina

Reina stared at her feet but she couldn’t stop herself from keeping up the small laugh that he had garnered before. It was a funny story and even though she knew his game, maybe it wasn’t bad to lose sometimes. Maybe in this sort of instance it wasn’t a competition at all. Maybe Alex did just miss being her friend. “I’m doing my best not picture you R rated or X rated, thanks though.”

“Oh my god!” There were tears in her eyes now as he went on further with the story. Her hands feel from a protective gesture to holding her aching stomaching from laughing so hard. “Your poor Father probably about died.” Her words were muffled by her laugh but Reina made real eye contact with Alex for the first time all night as she wiped a tear from her face. “You should never tell anybody that. they will think less of you.”

He missed seeing Reina like this, in fits of laughter that left her looking physically pained. Alex missed her just being...her. He wished he’d known that their relationship would’ve taken such a drastic turn after he took up the position so he could have better prepared them, but to see her so lighthearted and genuinely happy made him join in on the merriment. He needed to soak it all up now so he could be prepared for the storm clouds in the later forecast until she finally let the sun through again.

“I’ve never seen someone so disappointed,” he said with a shake of his head. His father had called him a disgrace, a lowlife, a collection of slurs long enough for him to write a novella. His mother, however, thought he was quite the businessman. That was why he kept in contact with her and her alone. “You’re actually one of four people who know. I’m putting my solid reputation as a salacious man of mystery, buddy. You’re not gonna go and make a newsletter are you?”

“If the scientists simply label us ‘abominations’, then we’re something that’ll never be explained. The interest in finding out what we are is dwindling. It is now a matter of what they can make to stop us, kill us,” Sage said, removing her hand from his form. “I hope we’re not a mistake. It means that we will be dealt with soon enough.”

He instantly craved the physical grounding her touch offered. It somehow made the situation less heavy. “You’re wrong. About the stopping us thing, that is. Even if we’re a parasite, we’re invaluable to them. We’re a variable to their constant, and for that they won’t kill us,” he said, mostly sure of that. “Our gifts aren’t something they’ll want to...deal with. They’re useful, we’re resources of limitless potential...props of war and revolution.” Alex’s features became less somber then. He couldn’t express how it truly made him feel because he couldn’t grasp it at all. “I think that’s what troubles me the most. This could all very well be a game...and not one of the little games I play, but something much more malicious. Something that could have been preordained from the beginning. We don’t, nor did we ever have free will.”

Celia hummed thoughtfully at the suggestion, her mind going though possible candidates head turning towards him and then grins as he begins ordering. Her hands searched the desk for her lesson plans, finding them she lifted the binder and stood, making her way over towards the wall. Running through possible Indian dishes from previous menus she had in the past, “Uh, how about, Lamb Mughlai?” Reaching her left hand outward, four steps forward and her fingers brushed the wall, turning towards him she motioned her to follow him grinning, “You need to grab anything from your classroom?”

The words of the woman on the other line sort of drowned in an ocean of white noise at some point, and it wasn’t until Celia spoke that he’d even realized that he’d somehow zoned out. “Oh, yes the second order is the Lamb Mughlai. Hm? Yes...that’s fine,” he muttered a little lamely, eyes finally focusing on Celia’s moving form. “Thirty minutes...that’s perfect. Thank you. Have a nice day.” He clicked the phone off and followed after her with calculated movements, making sure not to get in her way as they walked. “Yeah, my binder. I mean...there’s not much in it, as you know, but it’s a start.”

 “Mm, you’ve got a point, I guess.” She said, lips pressed together to hide a smile. God forbid she agree with Alex too much, or he’d become completely insufferable. Of course, Emerson found it best not to agree with anyone more than twice in a conversation.

 The smile grew with Alex’s hand slipping into hers, and at his question she pulled her lower lip between her teeth, shrugged a shoulder, glancing up at him as she answered. “Nowhere more important than being here right now.” She said, a hint of teasing in her tone to make up for how over the top her words were.

That was Emerson’s way of telling him that he was getting too much of an ego boost for being right all the time. He let one side of his mouth curl upward in a slanted little smile, but made it more genuine when he met her eyes again. It would be too strong of an ego stroke to remind Emerson how addictive she was, so he avoided approaching the subject. He snorted a little at the way she’d spoken but puffed up his chest nonetheless. “You’re teasing me, but I’ll take what I can get,” Alex told her, placing the stack of cards in his back pocket and fixing the hat on his head. “Are you buttering me up for something specific or am I just being treated to an extra special delight?”

“It’s…interesting,” Raunaq offered with a short laugh. He was hesitant when he first got the room assignment, mostly because he had a single room every year before. It didn’t help that Cillian was such a strong personality, while Raunaq wasn’t, but he actually liked the experience so far. “He coerced me in to going to that party, but he’s really not bad. He’s entertaining,” He shrugged. All Raunaq really cared about in the end was being safe in his room anyway. “Why did she pass out? What were you even doing in your class?”

Interesting was usually a word people used to describe someone they didn’t particularly like, but Raunaq seemed to have a weak intonation to the light jab, leaving Alex unsure. He didn’t look completely like he was having a terrible time, but he would think optimistically that Cillian didn’t leave a sour taste in his mouth. The other man was truly a gem. “Agreed. Hopefully he doesn’t cause you too much trouble, not that I think he will.” He had faith in the opposites attracting in a platonic way there. “I tried to explain Quantum theory and I don’t think she was ready. She passed the first test, though, so I suppose she gave it another try on her own.”

“I’ve noticed.” She snorted and shook her head, “Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I don’t have sex, and I’m perfectly capable of imagining what your er… ‘cowboy’ would entail. Oh? Do you have a second man in mind?” Heard turning towards him, she smirks before clearing her throat and continuing, “Aw. you’re one of my favorite people too. Sounds like a plan. I trust your choice in dinner decisions - I have a feeling you eat a lot more of it than I do, any way.”

He laughed with her. He’d typed in the information and was waiting on google while he thought on who could be their other participant. As he typed, he went to speak. “I’m not sure...It has to be someone we’re both mutually attracted to because no way am I making him uncomfortable. Ooh. How about—Hello?” he stopped, the woman on the other line chiming in with a greeting. Once it was over, he smiled. “Yeah, hi; this’ll be delivery...Yes, yes I know there’s a fee...” Alex gave Celia a glance, checking her facial expressions to make sure he wasn’t being rude. “Could I get your Vindaloo curry? I’m in the mood for spice. Uh...no that won’t be all—Celia, what would you like?”

 “Just bring the cameras here.” Emerson said with a soft laugh, “I mean, come on, we’d make the best show, right here. What could be more entertaining than this group of freak criminals?”

 Emerson was so accustomed to Alex’s surety about what he had to offer, and so familiar with what he actually gave, that his words barely even registered as cocky. Sexual energy was something he was never sure of, that much was absolutely certain. With the cards gathered up, Emerson moved back to her feet, this time offering her touch more openly to Alex, her hand outstretched to him, giving him a hand up he obviously wouldn’t need, just for the chance at more contact.

“As much as I value each and every one of these special snowflakes, at most six percent of us should even be allowed to be acknowledged by the government.” It was the truth. Most of the people at Wallings weren’t exactly public material; they were at best indie YouTube webseries material. He took the offered hand, and let his grin grow at the contact. It was reassuring, and endearing, all contact with Emerson was like that. She knew how weak the facade was and yet she let him keep it up. It was nice. “So where were you headed before I stopped you with my astounding magical talent?” he asked, hoping he hadn’t held her up for something important.

“I don’t know, I’m thinking you have quite a bit of ammo against me too,” Kit told him, flashing a smile over his shoulder. The sound of the microwave as the popcorn cooked was strangely relaxing to him – not the sound of the kernels popping, but the actual drone of the microwave as the plate spun inside it. It wasn’t quite as relaxing as the collective hum of a roomful of computers, but it helped. And once the movie was on, once the Playstation was on, he’d feel even better. It was a good thing so many people relied on technology and that he could still be around it even when he was somewhere else. 

As Alex handed him the bowl, Kit grinned a little at the question. But as he considered an answer for it, Alex went on, and heat crept up his neck as his mind supplied him with yet more mental images. “The idea of not putting out if the movie’s bad. Let’s be real, the movie being terrible would only be more incentive,” he said with a laugh. He situated the popcorn in his lap, popping a piece into his mouth as the Playstation came to life. Sheepishly, he tried not to stare at Alex, mostly because the mental images were still there and he felt like Alex would be able to tell if he caught him watching him.

“By the way, how did I not know you were such a bloody tease? For someone who’s job it is to observe and assess other people, I’m not very observant,” he said, joking, because he absolutely enjoyed Alex’s flirtation.

Once again, his Playstation’s incessant need to be a bother left him fiddling for longer than he would have liked to. It was his fault for buying one used, Alex knew, but the startup could have been much smoother if the previous owner would’ve treated it fairly. He thought to himself what a person would want to mess up a Playstation for anyway. That was worth much too money to misuse. Kit would definitely agree; he looked back to see if he’d noticed the stall as well, but found his eyes drift immediately to the position of the popcorn. He smirked. “Apparently, my teasing is enough incentive already, hm?”

The noise of his gaming console waking up made him turn around enough to get things settled. “I’m not distracting you, am I? I’d hate for you to not be able to observe and assess me like you’re supposed to,” Alex asked over his shoulder as he signed in and went to Netflix. Once he’d seen the loading screen, he sauntered back to the couch and plopped down beside Kit. “I could always...” He leaned in slowly, tugging on his lower lip as he moved closer. When he was within an inch and a half, he placed his hand inside of the popcorn bowl and pulled out a piece to shove into his mouth without any extra preamble. “...dial it down a little if it helps. Anything to be a good Samaritan.” He chuckled then.

| Story Time | Alex & Reina

Reina sat down next too him still visibly uncomfortable with the interaction. Suddenly it passed her mind how silly it probably looked to Alex who had know her for years that she suddenly developed this distrust towards him. Forcing herself she made her arms drop to her side, trying to find a position that was less defensive as he had so kindly put it. It still felt unnatural though.

“You stripped to get into this school.” Reina side eyed him, letting out a light laugh. She knew the game he was playing. He’d open up a little so she would. A few weeks ago she would have sworn and walked out of his office. But she was trying to be better, so she let him tell her more. And she smiled more and couldn’t stop herself laughing at the image in he was painting of himself. “That would be pretty stupid.”

A laugh was a good sign to Alex, so he continued. He needed her to know that she could trust him, even if his dirty laundry would be laid out on the table. “Oh it was worst than that...You’re thinking too R, what I did was rated X. Triple X if we’re being real. Porn star,” he murmured. He thought fondly on the first meeting with anyone from Wallings. “I had sugar in my ass crack for two hours when I got arrested and every time I moved, it rode up deep enough for me to taste it. Definitely wasn’t the most gratifying moment of my life.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle a little more as the memory came again. How Ms. Danvers coughed every time he thought about how uncomfortable his underwear was until she eventually got up and asked him if he needed to use the bathroom. “Oh god, and then when I was packing up...I had to look my dad directly in the eye as they pulled out anal bead after anal bead from my room. And I don’t even think we should talk about the clamps...” Alex finally looked up, face red from choking back any further mirth. “Long story short, you’re looking at the king of stupid. And look how great I turned out.”

Raunaq laughed a little at that, because he knew it wasn’t that far off. “I have a roommate that could make my side of the room look like I’m sleeping in a cardboard box with an endless supply of jello.” He was pretty sure that Cilian wouldn’t do that without his permission, but he could surprise him. Raunaq noticed the slight flush on Alex’s face, causing him to smirk. It was surprising that someone as confident seeming as Alex could get flustered from a compliment. “Well, it’s too bad that you don’t have me in your class then. I can’t guarantee the other kids won’t throw paper balls at the back of your head as you try to teach them about matter and velocity.”

“You’re roomed with Cillian, then? That must be a load of fun.” The hilarity of Raunaq, who he has noticed is quite the quiet delight, being put in the same living space with the lively Cillian Madigan was something he’d probably end up laughing at very inappropriate times. They would most likely get on very well, now that he thought about it. Raunaq was not only cute, but a bit of a natural charmer as well; he was good company to keep. “I think they’re too busy dying off one by one to worry about throwing paper balls. One poor girl passed out the second day of class. Talk about a confidence boost, right?”
