So here's the thing. We're both terrified of bears. No matter how many people say they're just like giant raccoons, or they're more afraid of us than we should be of them, no matter how many stories and articles and documentaries we try to prepare ourselves with. Scared AF. So even though everyone told us it was overkill, we took along a can of bear spray on our last hike. Just in case. Things were going fine till we hit a real steep ascent, Sierra leaned forward, and the damn thing went off. Bright orange all over her coat, and now peppery tasting water from her camelbak! We cleaned her off, tossed the can in a plastic bag, and put it in a loose pocket of her pack. At the top of the climb she sat down for a moment, heard a spraying sound, and asked "Was that the spray again?" The only answer necessary was the gagging and coughing I gave her. Back in the bag, carried the last few miles back by two messy and laughing, now possibly bear bait, women. We're learning. 🐻 . . . . . #Hike8 #52hikechallenge #52hikechallenge2018 #journeyto100 #journeyto100andbeyond #hiking #bearspray (at Loyalsock Trail)
