I have never known a life without prince. My mother has a single tattoo and it is the prince symbol. The first song I knew by heart was I would die 4 u. I have grown up with complex melodies and lyrics defying gender and challenging your concept of sexuality. A multiracial pop star unafraid of societies confined idea of gender, freely exploring femininity intertwined with masculinity to create timeless art whilst showing that one can not exist without the other and how allowing both to come together in a harmonious fuck you to everyone who says sexuality can’t be soft and powerful, to anyone who says gender is black and white. Prince is so much more than an artist to me, he is a statement, he is more than music. I would not be who I am without the impact prince has had on my life.

As an artist who explores gender via music, as a multiracial person from a little town in nowhereville, thank you prince for showing me that music is fluid and gender is fluid and you can be everything all at once.

I will forever be heartbroken, I am gutted. You are so cherished and will be forever.
