Okay, so I don't know if it is still a thing people say/do/etc on Tumblr or anywhere else, as I do not frequent the site...frequently (it's late and I'm tired so I'm using frequently twice shoot me) but I really don't understand what looks like this 'white cis straight male' shaming thing that's going on.
Now I"m not claiming to be oppressed for being white, or male, nor am I even oppressed for anything else really. I'm queer and I have a basket full of disabilities, and yeah there has been prejudice because of that, but to claim that that is oppression when they're cutting off gay people's heads over in We'refuckedistan is a bit of a dick move. What I'm saying is that, from what I see, be it right or wrong, equality to some people is putting straight white cis males 'in their place'. For example, if I sat here and said something stereotypical about black people and then said after wards "black people" people would lose their shit. But all over Tumblr they are apparently handing out free passes to make jokes against/denigrate the more WASP-y males among us. Again, I get the difference. I get that Africans were brought over here as slaves and they *still* suffer from shitty people and their shitty racism hundreds of years later. I understand *why* people find it okay to make jokes about the majority class. But is it really?
At least in my eyes, and I say this while separating myself from my race/sex/sexuality/gender/etc, equality isn't about doing to the majority what they did to the minority. Equality is about putting on your big boy and big girl panties, learning from the past, and go from there to make a brighter world for *everybody*. It's not every straight cis white male's fault that some fuckbuckets owned people 150+ years ago. Focus on education and learning. Teach people how negative racism is and try to build a better future.
And that's just one example of prejudice. I'm queer. I am a member of the LGBTQ123456 whatever it is now community. I don't identify as anything really, as labels aren't for me (if they're for anybody else hey all the power to them). I'm disabled on a level where at this point in my life I can't handle a full-time job. If I go back in time any time before the 80's, even in US history, I could be sent to an asylum and be sterilized for being both what they would classify as a homosexual and having neurological disorders. Do I want revenge on doctors and straight poeple now? Do I make fun of straight people disparagingly because straight people were assholes at one point in time? Fucking no. Like I said, you educate, you inform, and you don't get militant and hostile. That shit solves nothing and only creates schisms between groups of people that don't need any more reasons to hate each other.
So I guess my question is why is that apparently okay? At least half of Tumblr has to be intelligent statistically, so why is such an illogical way of thinking seemingly prevalent? Am I seeing things wrong? Is there more to it? From what I can see it's childish bullying that solves nothing. If somebody can explain this to me *without* being a mean spirited snarky asshole it would be much appreciated. This comes from an honest place of wanting to learn, So somebody please answer me if they can.
