Every difference ive noticed in “unbeatable” mode astroneers

More obvious stuff: All the surface soil is replaced with rock Terrain generates differently, with large flat areas sometimes Gravity is MUCH higher Research materials have 90% less value and high value ones are rarer

You have to be looking out for it to notice: Oxygen depeletes faster All machines are slower increased gravity causes more fall damage and makes it easier to slide

Resource changes: (ranking commonness) Normal mode Unbeatable mode 1st organic Malachite 2nd resin/compound Graphite 3rd Resin/compound Resin/compound 4th Clay Resin/compund 5th Ammonium Organic 6th Malachite Quartz 7th Laterite Sphalerite 8th Quartz Laterite 9th Sphalerite Clay 10th Graphite Ammonium

Unchanged/increased commoness: (malachite is seemingly unchanged, graphite is also more common than in normal mode as im fairly sire it only spawns on rock in non mountains which is rare in normal mode)

decreased reasonably: (resin and compound are restricted to mountains but are fairly common on the mountains any way, laterite, quartz and sphalerite were also decreased proportionally)

found dead in an ally: (organic is restricted to mountains and caves, were it spawns uncommonly. You can get an okay amound but you have to scour the mountains and caves for every trace. I genuinely havent seen a single piece of ammonium or clay. I assume its been restricted to mountains but ive never seen clay ever spawn on mountains before, or any kind of rock for that matter. Ammonium was already decently rare)

the change in resin and compound is detrimental. Luckily many important compound and resin made items are given for free by the quests. To reach point were resin and compound are no longer a problem you need to collect 4 resin, 4 compound and one aluminium or 4 resin, 4 compund, 1 clay and 1 sphalerite.

you more realistically need 5 compound to afford tethers to gather aluminium material tho

exo caches are also much rarer and there are NO debris which means the trade station is a later game item

id say progression should go like this: complete the freebie quests collect one resin and use it ti make a small platform use oxygenator and small platform and free roam to gather all the compound, resin and laterite you need (4, 4 and 1) Make a soil centrifuge Grind bytes in the caves research: chemistry lab, small shuttle, gas condenser, hydrazine thruster, dynamite and tapper use packagers to move the oxygenator and gas condensee to a planet with sulfur and get sulfur. Then get hematite from glacio Make explosive powder and then dynamite. search for and explode an exo cache make a trade platform

and then FINALLY you can pkay somewhat normally and do all the quests

like the first resin is just barely reachable in the mountains, i had to make a hole baby proofing system to make it even remotely safe

my notes on resource generation in the unbeatable preset

In the plains ive only seen graphite generate. I assume clay and ammonium will also generate but i cant prove that

in the crevices ive seen sphalerite generate. My guess is laterite will generate their too as they are both cave resources

in the mountains ive seen malachite, compound, resin and organic generate

i havent gone to the caves yet but i assume generation is standard there (excluding how commonly found the resources are ofc)

i NEED to find either clay or laterite or i will be entirely soft locked because without a soil centrifuge i might not be able to get more than 15 resin and compound
