@wasistdennhiiierlos this is what i meant when i said luciana being underwritten was racist; i WAS considering it to be racism and misogyny, but the show writers seem perfectly capable of writing interesting stories/characters.. but only if they’re white 🤨

i’ll also give it to you that luciana being underwritten might be a result of her being sketched into the show as a love interest for nick—i also believe the frequency at which this show tends to use its nonwhite characters (who are mainly Black or latin) as macguffins is fucking weird 😭

like we never see (as of s4 ep8) that Black lady alicia met, then allied with, until the lady got injured and was brought to an infirmary because she was only used as a macguffin to get alicia to meet john proctor

i’m even starting to believe now ‘la colonia’ arc was just a macguffin for nick to get to the ranchers’ military base, because his time with this latin community meant NOTHING to him when he started hanging around troy ‘i overran my community with walkers because the INDIANS had TAKEN OVER!’ otto

which again is in character for nick as we know him but the writers really super duper didn’t have to take his character that way; wrote it in a separate post about how nick will pray to the nearest altar and after troy and his lackies killed el pubelo de la colonia, there was an empty spooottt ✨😍🧚‍♀️

The writer of the first three seasons of FTWD was definitely capable of creating interesting female characters. However, there was also Ofelia, who, in my opinion, was very interesting and multidimensional. The difference between the two was that Ofelia wasn’t centered around a male character. She had her own story arc without Nick or any other male character.

As far as I understand MacGuffins(I actually had to Google what that even is), I agree with you there. I think that’s also due to the fact that the writer tried to integrate inclusive characters into the story but wasn’t able—or didn’t recognize the importance of doing so—to give them more depth. Which I also find very, very regrettable.

All in all, the series definitely missed an opportunity to address the issue of racism more effectively 💯
