Blewitts Pines forest to Denman Prospect suburb

What was Blewitt (also Blewetts, Bluetts, Blewett's, Bluett's, Blewitts Pines and Bluetts Pines) pine forest prior to the 2003 bushfires is becoming the suburb of Denman Prospect. Canberra's population continues to grow. More money is needed by the governemnt to provide services. What were green spaces are slated to become suburbs.

Further upstream from Denman Prospect is another former green-space being turned into suburb. The closeness of the development to the Molongolo River is surprising in terms of environmental contamination. Though perhaps run-off can be managed. Aesthetically it looks Aesthetics don’t seem to have been a design factor.

The abutting of urban developments to important natural features of the landscape is planned to occur too in the proposed Parkwood development, west of Belconnen in Yass Shire. There houses are planned within 150 metres of Ginninderra Falls.

Cherry blossom time

A feeling of sadness rises up with you when you realize that after seeing the first blossoms, it will only be a few short weeks before all the beautiful petals are gone. My walk through Denman Prospect to the new bridge over the Molongolo River this afternoon was through very beautiful scenery. Winter sun on golden grasses, valley-sides reaching into sunny haze, cliffs on small creeks. Even though it has been cleared of native vegetation, grazed, farmed, turned to pine plantation, burnt-out in a major bushfire and then classed as temporary wasteland needing a new and proper, financially rewarding, purpose, for all this, it’s probably more beautiful now than it will be for the next 200 years.

Filling in the gaps

I heard a spokesperson from a pro-development body describe the process of urbanising previous green-space as, “filling in the gaps”.

Canberra has been a beautiful city, it’s vistas admired by visitors, appreciated by residents, entered into by a myriad of interpretative enthusiasts from rally drivers to mushroom seekers.

Does Canberra depend on the gaps in the build environment for it’s beauty?

Is Canberra like a piece of music?

Music inherently depends on silence in some form or another to distinguish other periods of sound and allow dynamics, melodies and rhythms to have greater impact. For example, most music scores feature rests denoting periods of silence. In addition, silence in music can be seen as a time for contemplation to reflect on the piece. The audience feels the effects of the notes previous and can reflect on that moment intentionally. Silence does not hinder musical excellence but can enhance the sounds of instruments and vocals within the piece.

A variety of fungii are found. Some occur in a symbiotic relationship with Pinus radiata. Some of these are edible. Some are not. There have been recent fatal poisonings from mis-identification. There are local look-a-likes of an edible Asian fungi. But that local fungi destroys the human liver. Be certain of identity before eating any fungi.
