A tip for tumblr staff

Activism is not a trend.

It is time to put the things that matter to so many people here in a place of it’s own where it belongs.

Start an activism tab for people to show their souls and call out for the changes that they deserve.

It is time to save the tags from jockeying against every other trend out here.

No more glitches. No more complaints about missing tags. No more anger over the latest Disney plus show being more important than people’s lives. Those two things should have never had the same gauge to begin with.

Start anew era for tumblr where it could be about fandoms and activism with out it constantly being one against the other.

I really feel what you're saying. Of course I have no problem against BLM and SAH in what they're trying to achieve, it would be hypocritical to say that there isn't any racism in our world and that we shouldn't fight it but the form is.. may I say, desastrous. And the problem is that you literally can't say anything about it without being pointed out as the new target, no matter how harmful the pratics you're trying to denounce are. So really, thank you for standing up.

I feel as though in the end of things people of activism groups really don’t want people outside their circle there, but rather need us because without us their efforts will never come to fruition.

So they are bitter at us and see us as an unfortunate convenience to their cause.

Sadly that is the reality of being an ally. So you really need to gauge if that is a deal breaker for you or not.

Personally i do not like the idea of being around a group of people who don’t like me and is just suppressing their feelings around me because it helps.

I have been told so much the past couple of days that I don’t understand anything because I am not black or Asian. To me that is an attack on my empathy and intelligence. People who looks at it and see it and hear about it and read about it could understand the struggles. I don’t know why POC have a mechanism that they need to believe that if you are white there is no way you could understand them in any capacity.

So again… you make that call. I will be me and I am somewhat of a meddler because I want to see things get better and not stagnate. That is what SAH in particular is doing. It is becoming a joke of itself because all it is now is a series of people complaining that the tag is missing to get the tag back up. Which is ruining the tag.

But thank you for understanding me in a way. I appreciate you and insist that you stay strong. BLM SAH and such are good things, but we matter too and I think the activists take that for granted.

As someone who has genuine trauma related to race as a white person (from being in an environment in which white people were presented as “the enemy” without explanation, leading to me as one of two being ostracized and abused by my peers), the people going around saying that the things POC are saying that are somewhat aggressive towards white people are bad can suck shit.

I’m literally triggered by some of it. I hate seeing it but I know that what I experienced, what traumatized ME, is LESS than what POC experience. I was able to get out. POC experience this from the day that they‘re born to the day they will die. The harm that I was caused by carelessness is a sign to educate better, sure, but that goes for white people too.

If we DEMAND that POC educate the real systemic issues, that POC tell people to “forgive” a white person who says something unknowingly awful because that’s how they grew up… We ought to do the same. Where are the white educators who treat POC fairly? The white educators that specifically work with people on their biases the system wove into them? Most of the white people I know don’t even work on themselves, mostly focusing on issues that relate more to them.

Yes, I was traumatized. Yes, this can be and is traumatizing. But if you’re going to tell people to stop something because it’s traumatizing you, you better be ready to listen and stop when they say back that you’re traumatizing them.

That does not make it “okay” necessarily. It just means that if you care about THIS, you should care about POC’s issues too.

It took me a long time to get well enough coping with my triggers to the point where I can tolerate helping people get their voices heard. Where I can hear someone say “I hate white people” and not go into a panic. Even to realize the way that I was treated was probably my fault on top of the situation I was in.

If you weren’t listening to POC, but this post reaches you and makes you understand, I want you to think about why. What am I saying that’s different?

All I have is an experience, an experience that barely, barely reflects the things that POC have been telling you that they’ve been experiencing this whole time. Why believe me over them? I’d think the answer is rather simple, isn’t it?

I am NOT saying that it is OKAY to do this. I’m saying that if you CARE about this subject, if you CARE that people are saying “I hate white people”, then you better fucking care about other shit too.

If you DEMAND that POC educate themselves properly on the actual problem, you better be educating yourself on how to stop it too. If you DEMAND that POC don’t say “I hate white people”, you better have the same fucking response toward people who perpetuate racism against other groups too.

The PROBLEM is that most of the people who say “it’s not good for POC to say they hate white people :(” are white people who are suddenly offended but would otherwise turn a blind eye to obvious racism between their peers.

You guys care WAAAY too much about POC being aggressive toward THEIR OPPRESSORS, too much about the feelings of THE OPPRESSORS, when you could actually be giving a shit about POC.

If you know a POC who says this stuff and it makes you uncomfortable, you can ask them nicely not to while you’re around. You can tell them that it perpetuates trauma and that it is, in the end, harmful, because white people will use it against them to excuse their own racism. But they don’t have to give us shit if we don’t give it back.

Also, “hate is hate no matter which direction it goes” ignores so much fucking nuance. White people hate POC for no reason, many just because they were told to and/or had it baked into them from a young age. POC hate white people because white people are SYSTEMATICALLY OPPRESSING THEM.

So to start off I do care about other things. It is not about protecting property. There is more that happens during a looting or riot than things breaking and being stolen. There are those people who tend to the store, people shopping that day. People who will witness their favorite grocery store full of people they know and maybe even love being overwhelmed by the mob of people doing it. It is more than about stuff.

My wife worked a target during the Rochester NY riot. Down the road a family dollar and Walmart got looted. They were told to evacuate and hide in the building like it was a natural disaster coming their way. That leaves an impact on people.

I never said people’s experiences are invalid. I said their responses are unbecoming of someone who wants positive results. Maybe I am to. I see where I can be approaching this flawed. But I am trying something. I don’t give a shit for positive feedback for doing bare minimum either I just want people to change the approach. What good it is doing SAH for people to just comment on the tag missing until it comes back to trending? Honest, what? What good is stopasianhate if all it does it take up space and not improve the state of asian Americans? All it says now is where is the tag. It seems like the tag is more important than the Asian lives about the tag.

Hate is hate either way. If racism is prejudice plus power does that make prejudice without power good? This isn’t math where if you multiple two negatives it somehow becomes a positive. It just continues to perpetuate hatred among the two groups and anxiousness and turmoil.

So, eyeing up your account. So you seem to be against reparations, or against the petition for reparations. May I ask why?

Let me express my position: There are several studies showing there is economic generational inequality between demographics determined by ethnicity and such. If this cannot or is not currently being adressed by the government, which lets be honest, is not really adressing it, then asking for society to be proactive about it seems quite rational. At the end, asking for aid and receiving that aid is an act of generosity. Of course, a donation can be perhaps considered more fitting than another- like donating to a fundation that has previously shown genuine efforts and set forth projects to address inequality, over some specific person asking for $20, whose conditions are unknown. But each person is responsible for their money, and the people who donate are, at the end, those that can afford to donate.

You also seem to be against the idea that POC should be the featured people on POC discourse, or at least against the idea that white people should take a step back from the spotlight on those topics. Of course, we would all want to be more proactive and share our thoughts, I get that. But it, again, simply seems rational that the people most qualified to talk about POC's expenriences and issues are.... well, POC. Especially when, again, there is a history of censure.

So, what if POC only want white people to participate by supporting them, listening to them, and standing in when they are in danger? Helping is never about reciprocation. I don't understand why it would be an issue.

The idea of reparations is that it needs to come from a source. Obviously you will not be taking reparations from other POC. I think the understood value that was to be given to slaved African Americans after emancipation was three acres of land and a mule. I believe the value of that is I read about $97,000 depending on the area. The mule is probably not very important. So say we give every black person in America $97,000. There are around 42 million of them here. Around $4,074,000,000,000,000 would be what would make that right. Divided by adult white Americans at around 240,000,000. That comes to $16,975 each.

I don’t have $16,975 just laying around. If reparations becomes mandated… what the hell chance have I got to take on this bill?
