Heirloom | Giovanni & Silver [Flashback]

As the weather got colder, days grew shorter and shorter, and the end of the year rapidly approached, Giovanni often found himself thinking about his son. He always had Silver in his thoughts at this time, but this year in particular made it difficult not to dwell on how long itโd been since heโd seen his boy. It was going to be Silverโs 18th birthday. His son was becoming an adult. If Giovanni had ever thought he would be part of Silverโs childhood again, that time was now over.
Most of the time, Giovanni dealt with the problem of his relationship with Silver by simplyโnot dwelling on it. There wasnโt anything that could change the past, and Giovanni knew that. But.ย Eighteen.ย That was enough to give even him pause. When heโd first left, heโd never imagined it would be for so long. But the executivesโ plan failed, and Giovanni lost to yet another young trainer, and he hadnโt felt strong enough to return. The years added up, until the distance between them became a divide so great it felt impossible to bridge.
Even if he wanted to speak to Silver again, he didnโt have many options when it came to getting in touch, save for one. A Pokรฉgear number, one that might no longer work. Giovanni had considered it for days, hesitating every time he was about to make the call. They had a lot to discuss, but none of that would matter if Silver had no interest in speaking with him. At least this way he could go on acting as though there was still a chance that he might make things right with his son. If they never spoke, it could never be trulyย resolved, and Giovanni hated the idea of Silver rejecting him outright almost more than he disliked the silence between them.
But eventually a moment of impulse had overtaken him, and Giovanni briefly put aside his concerns to make the call. To his great surprise it had worked, and Silverย hesitantly agreed to meet him. Route 22 would undoubtedly bring back unpleasant memories of their last parting, but it was one of the few places where they could speak privately, without the risk a more populated area would carry.
The day of their meeting came up fast, and before he knew it Giovanni found himself on the path leading out of Viridian City, still not entirely convinced that Silver would actually be make an appearance.

โ Today wasnโt going to be very pleasant. Firstly because Silver had had a particularily bad day when it came to practically everything, and secondly because heโd agreed to meet up with his father today. He didnโt know why heโd even agreed to it in the first place. His father would never change from the path heโd set himself on, but there was something inside of Silver that hoped he had, or would, and thatโs what he was going to prove to him today.
โย But there was also another part which knew he wouldnโt.
