DIY Classroom Valentine Gifts
This idea from Design Mom is so cute - and I am sure all the parents will love you for giving their child a large donut to take home ;)
Love this Quote.
A Mothers Beauty Uniform
I love this series from A Cup Of Jo - the beauty Uniform. I always find it so interested to see how other mothers effortlessly throw themselves together, like Jessie Randall, mother of 3 boys and creative director for Loeffler Randall.
For me, I have always used eminence organic face wash and cream morning and night; and, if there are two things I couldn't live without, it would have to be my NARS foundation, primer and blush! I also always wash my hair at night, so in the morning I can just have a quick 5 min shower and I'm out the door. What are some of your beauty tricks?
January Faves
Ok, so it is a little late in January to be throwing out detox advice, however better late than never right! Below is a list of our favourite things right now.
1. Our Limited Edition Anti Bully Tee - The countdown is on! February 25th is Anti Bully day here in BC, and what better way to show support than a bold, hip tee! $2.00 of every shirt will be donated to our local CKNW Pink Shirt Day.
2. Detox - It's January 13th and I haven't started my detox. ha! Off to a great start. I always think it's funny when people, including myself, go to town with indulgences and then stop everything cold turkey and eat chicken and lettuce for the next month. A better way, I feel, is to obviously cut back on treats, but to add some green juice or smoothies. Here are some great recipes and info on detoxing from Goop.
3. #GirlBoss - This is what I am reading right now and it is a really great book! If you are thinking of starting a business, have a business, or just want some inspirations I highly recommend reading #Girlboss.
4. Rylee and Cru - Everything about this collection is gorgeous. The company, based in California, was started by designer/illustrator Kelli Murray. Kelli launched her site in late November and literally almost everything on her website sold out by Christmas!
5. Once Upon An Alphabet - We are reading Oliver Jeffers new book once upon an alphabet and it's so cute, although long! If your babe doesn't know the alphabet yet you can skip ahead like I do. haha. j/k ;)
6. 21 Parenting Tips from the talented Joanna Goddard via her website A Cup Of Jo.
Enjoy!
Dates With Your Child Do you ever take your babes on individual dates? Simon and I just started doing this last year with Jacob and Sophia. Sophie is still too young to notice, but it made a world of difference for Jacob. Here is a cute little article about the subject.
DIY Personalized Sharpie Mugs
It's the first Monday in January! Most people are off to work today after the holidays. I just read an article on how it takes a good week to adjust to your schedule after a holidays. I am looking forward to getting back to a routine and to also putting down the wine and big meals. When your stretchy pants are getting tight you know it's time. Ha!
On another note, I found these super cute DIY personalized mugs from Handmade Charlotte. They are super easy and a fun little project for the kids. I love these kinds of projects over the winter. Happy Monday!
Our New Organic Tees
Hi all, Hope you are starting this new year full of positive vibes and that your detox is going well Bedtime is usually a time of the day where a lot of emotions are encountered. Parents feel happy to have some time for themselves and some kids feel grumpy or sad that they don't get more time to play. For our We Dread Bedtime tee we tried to capture a frustrated and grumpy feeling from Jacob and Elo. We tried to explain to our kids that it's okay to feel grumpy or frustrated sometimes. Made with 100% organic cotton and printed with water based inks, our tees are very eco friendly and safe for both babe and planet. And the best part? They are so soft, kids never want to take them off!

Feliz Navidad! Hope Santa brings you lots of love tonight!
It's almost advent calendar time! Last year was the first year we created an advent calendar filled with our favourite activities for december and it was a total hit! Here are a few cool calendars from Oh Happy Day.
Our calendar included ice skating, cooking baking, movie watching, and giving activities. I split up equal amounts of giving with fun stuff. For example, we went and picked out a bunch of toys and then brought them to children's hospital, which Jacob was really excited about.....although he fell asleep in the car on the way to the hospital :)
Do you do advent calendars? Whats are a few things on your list?
Work/life balance is something I strive for everyday. With Simon working full-time at a demanding job, creating a start-up together, 2 kids, and only one day a week of childcare, things get pretty crazy.
I found this article, which was written last year by Sarah Lacy, about every woman's individual path to finding balance as a mother and having a career.
For me, first and foremost, I am a mother and wife. Everything else comes secondary - including my career. It's a constant struggle to be a "good mom" and keep up with the demands of a start-up, but in my eyes this is what "having it all" means to me. What is your definition of "having it all?" (comment on our facebook page)
Want To Train Your Brain To Feel More Compassion? Here’s How.
I read this article last night and it was interesting, so I thought I would share.
Did you know that you can teach your brain to feel more compassion? "Scientific evidence shows that we can teach our brains to feel more compassion, both for others and ourselves. Imagine how the world might be different if we all learned this skill". -Fastcoexist
Halloween is officially over and the holiday season has begun! Yes, I did just say that. I have seen Christmas decorations at a handful of stores - so crazy!
Yesterday we watched Fed Up as a family and Jacob thought it was a good idea to give all of our halloween candy away. He picked out a few pieces and the rest went in a bag for donation. I didn't think Jacob would be interested in the movie, but he watched the whole thing and really got the message.
I think, as in anything, balance is key. Cutting out sugar all together isn't realistic, however having alternate go to treats, like these fruit by the foot, are key to raising happy, healthy kids.
Monday
The countdown is on for Halloween! I ended up getting Jacob's costume this weekend. He wants to be a magician, and after hunting all weekend and going to 4 different places to find things I finally found everything I needed. Value village was my last stop and while I was standing in line to pay I spotted an actual real magician hat on the top of a shelf with no price tag! The hat has a wire frame and an actual pouch to hide stuff in, and the best part was the price - $2.99! Talk about lucky.....
If you are still looking for a costume, here is a super cute costume that would be really easy to put together! What are your kids dressing up as this year?
HAPPY WEEKEND!
What is everyone up to this weekend? We have a whole list of stuff we need to do - soccer games, birthday parties, halloween costume shopping, etc, etc, etc. Weekends are pretty crazy for us, so Friday I like to have movie night with the family. I always make something yummy for dinner, followed by a treat, like sweet and salty popcorn, while we watch a movie.
Have a great weekend!
DIY Dinosaur Costume
I'm not going to lie - halloween is probably my least favourite time of the year. If Halloween included one little party for the kids with a few treats and we moved on, that wold be great. However, it seems like each year halloween turns into a two week event filled with endless amounts of candy and meltdowns.
Therefore, I tend to leave costumes until last minute. If you are like me and don't have a costume yet, this dinosaur costume is super cute and doesn't look too labour intensive! What are your thoughts on halloween?
