Me and my gf live in sf and have this friend that needs so much help. She’s living on her own in sf and she just keeps making these terrible life decisions because of her mental illness, while simultaneously using us and all of her other “friends” just to get super fucked up on drugs and alcohol. We all like to party and do it on occasion when we’re not busy building our futures, but she takes partying to an extreme. We cant even go to lunch with her without her being extremely fucked up to the point where she’s spilling her food all over herself. She even lets random creepy 40 year old dudes buy her drinks and give her drugs and she doesn’t think it’s dangerous at all. We’ve tried talking to her and telling her she needs serious help, but she doesn’t listen and all of our friends agree we need to reach out to her family so they can get her some serious help. Even if she hates us for the rest of her life, it’s for the best. She’s fucking up everything right now…she can’t pay her rent, she lost her job and she’s failing all her classes for the third semester in a row. It’s time for her family to know the truth. It’s so painful watching someone we care about so much being so reckless when it comes to her safety and health. We know she can’t help it and won’t seek help herself… *edit/update* Our friend seems to be doing doing a lot better now that we try to only invite her to super sober activities like hiking so we don’t enable her. She definitely still has a problem and should get help, but we don’t feel the need to reach out to her family anymore because she’s making steps in the right direction, however small they may seem.
