In the movie "Goemon's Bloodspray" Lupin and Jigen were watching Goemon's training. Jigen was clueless on what was going on, but Lupin knew what was happening, so why watch Goemon torture himself? Because Lupin knows how hard Goemon takes failure and knows that the samurai code involves seppuku for the sake of honor after failure. Lupin didn't want his samurai friend to kill himself so he basically was on low-key suicide watch.
