I want this one moment. Itās what I want in a relationship, which might explain why Iām single now. Itās kind of hard to- Itās that thing when youāre with someone and you love them and they know it, and they love you and you know it- But itās a party! And youāre both talking to other people, and youāre laughing and shining, and you look across the room and catch each otherās eyes. But not because youāre possessive or itās precisely sexual, but because that is your person in this life. And itās funny and sad but only because this life will end. And itās this secret world that exists right there, in public, unnoticed that no one knows about. Itās sort of like how they say that other dimensions exist all around us but we donāt have the ability to perceive them? Thatās what I want out of a relationship or just life, I guess.

I feel like I donāt really belong anywhere anymore. So if I donāt belong anywhere I should just go everywhere. Then I will travel, never really belonging anywhere as I already am.

We all want happiness so bad. We lose our minds chasing it, like a little kid runs after a butterfly. Grasping its greedy little fingers to grasp it out of the sky. Unlike butterflies happiness isnāt physically present. We canāt see, hear or feel it, but we can sure taste it. It tastes sweet and soft, and it leaves us wanting more.

Iāve had some pretty amazing moments in life, moments Iāll hopefully remember when Iām old and gray. This past weekend we hosted the conference for 40 years of women at West Point...and I couldnāt have been more proud to be a part of this lineage. To connect with graduates who are just doing outstanding things in their own respects, both in and out of the Army is so awe-inspiring to me. And I guess I never realized how much power I do have as a woman and how confident I should be in myself. I think the biggest takeaway for me was knowing that these women had my back, and no matter where I go--I can look for a West Point Sister. Itās a beautiful time to be alive and I cannot wait to just jump into this summer and experience everything there is to experience in life.Ā
Thank you God for the amazing opportunities ahead, and I pray that I can be a source of light to those in darkness.Ā
Athenaās Arena Conference!
Wow. There are so many things I want to say---and just so much to say really. The conference has been a phenomenal experience so far and I cannot believe how supportive our graduating classes really are. The bonds that we form here at West Point are like nothing Iāve seen, and I canāt believe how much we have come as women at the academy. Iāve met with so many graduates, and I am so happy to say that many will return next fall for our leadership conference. It is truly inspiring to hear their stories and to learn from their successes and failures. I can only imagine the kind of brutal hazing and experiences they went through, especially the first few classes of women. I also got to meet the Ranger School Graduates, which was just utterly amazing. Tomorrow is the last day of the conference--how insane! I got to also speak more about the CASHA program with senior leadership, so Iām hoping weāll start to implement more to get students more involved. Speaking on the Cadet Panel was also a great experience, and I was surprised at how calm I was, and not red haha. Alright, time to hit the sack.
what iāve learned is that if youāre gonna engage in a romantic relationship during your young adult years, it damn well better be with someone who makes your insides explode with nothing but positive emotion. someone who takes the time to be kind, patient and understanding, more often than not, and who is as warm with their words as they are with their touch. life is too short to be focused on people who do not have your growth and best interest in mind. the right person will love you in a way that makes you feel completely free and accepted within your own skin. they wonāt attempt to hinder your development out of fear or insecurity that your new experiences might lead you into the arms of someone else. good lovers will desire to see your personal success just as much as you do, and they will support and respect your decisions. stay away from people who make you feel guilty about desiring the best for yourself. they donāt love you for you, they love you for what you can provide for them. and that is not love.
this goes for friends as well
Leadership Lessons.
This past week was quite amazing. I organized a luncheon with our commandant, and it went extremely well. I didnāt realize how much work would go into organizing this luncheon and having to consider every moving piece, every minute detail. But it all paid off. And I was so happy to see the fruit of our labor as a staff, because we were able to present the club for what it is and for what it stands for. I am inspired by those around me, who work so diligently. And I am inspired by my family, who watch me grow and love and support me.Ā
Summer assignments.
I am thrilled to announce that I will be at Fort Drum with the light infantry brigade for three weeks, have two weeks of leave, and then come back to lead summer training as a training NCO. This is the first year that women are being allowed to do CTLT with infantry and armor units, and I am excited to see how it will work out. I did not want to be a guinea pig, but someone has to do it right?
Rangers Lead the Way.
19Feb16. Yesterday, the Corps sat down for Flipper Dinner, in honor and remembrance of Henry OāFlipper, the first African-American graduate of the Academy. What is most compelling about his experience is that he went through the Academy, ostracized, silenced, and ridiculed. Very few of us now have ever experienced that. In striking resemblance, CPT Greist, a graduate, and also a recent Ranger School graduate, spoke of her hardships as one of the first females to successfully complete Ranger School. We all know that is no small feat, but what I find must compelling about her story is that we are all a part of it as well. I am part of the history that is being made, as a participant, as an advocate, and as a current West Pointer as well. It baffles me how far we have come, truly how far we have come from the first round of women from the Class of 1980. It is crazy to me how the pipe dream I had of going into a combat arms branch is now a reality. I could not be more excited to learn, to grow as a leader, and to get out there this summer with a unit.
