Now that the finale for TADC is out, its insane to me to have seen weeks of people saying gooseworx made Jax as an apology for misogyny or the abuse of women, or that Gooseworx secretly thinks Jax did nothing wrong, or that Gooseworx tricked you (!?) because you thought Jax's misogyny and cruelty was just a funny joke played for laughs but then it got serious.

And of course there's the fact that there's endless transmisogynist insinuation that Gooseworx fetishises the abuse of women. People even made up that Jax sexually assaulted a female character in the finale - that got spread around a lot, but nothing like that happens! there's no scene coded as Jax pressuring a woman into sex like people were making a whisper campaign about. This slander has been relentless for months, that Gooseworx is not only apologising for the abuse of women, but that Jax is a self insert and she secretly is herself an evil abuser who loves abusing women (specifically an evil male who mocks women's suffering but what else is new) and Jax is just her way of gloating.

But here are her own words on the character:

She has for years said directly to her audience "Jax is a bad person. I made him a bad person because it's interesting to have a character who is a bad person." But this doesn't fit the narrative of the evil tranner who loves it when women are abused. And this is what she posted after the finale:

I'm not trying to make the show out to be perfect or gooseworx out to be a genius, but this nasty rumoumongering about her and specifically about her writing Jax as a love letter to her own (male) abuse of (female) women is just disgusting and nakedly transmisognyist.

That old transphobe conversion therapist Kenneth Zucker is at it again defending the idea of rapid onset gender dysphoria, and his argument?

Yeah, he seems to simply assume that trans people always do things like crossdressing and play with "gender-atypical" toys even when this would cause their parents and peers to punish them and they know it.

It just doesn't occur to him that some trans people just don't have an interest in that kind of thing and you couldn't readily identify them based on whether they prefer to play with trucks or barbies?

Speaking for myself I didn't even go out of my way to conform to my assigned gender or subvert it. If you did not know my actual thoughts I probably would have appeared perfectly cis to Zucker. I never saw the appeal of Barbies or skirts or anything, and even now I don't wear those.

He also seems to think that even in trans people who do have those preferences the need to satisfy them is so intense and irresistible that we can always expect people to try to do it regardless of the predictable consequences from their parents or peers.

Sometimes children do try this and then they get beaten, sent to conversion camps, bullied by their peers, kicked out of the house, etc.

But some other times they can tell right away from observation and/or other experiences that society punishes even minor forms of gender nonconformity and know it's risky to do anything like that while in their relatively powerless position.

I was never a repressor or anything myself, but I still hid my wishes and intentions from my parents because I knew my father in particular might have legitimately killed me over it. I had to patiently plan my way into a safer country and leave my family before I started HRT.

It's so deranged to just write such a stereotypical assumption in what's supposed to be an academic article. As if there is one singular trans experience and it's exactly the one you might expect from a 76-year-old conversion therapist whose approach involves pushing trans people into rigidly conforming to their assigned gender.

you have to preface things like this with disclaimers that you are not pro-ai for people incapable of critical thinking but: its so awesome how much people post about AI having no soul and lacking humanity and merely mimicking some sort of innate Humanness while failing to address or contend with the fact that a lot of people are seemingly making work indistinguishable from the statistical average spit up by a computer.

ppl could ABSOLUTELY churn out bland slop that's trying very hard to scan as though it's legit way before AI showed up, and i stopped trying to tell if things were AI generated and started just...thinking more about whatever i was looking at. exploring citations rather than just looking at them, thinking about what's being said and if disparate thoughts connect to each other, trying to engage with the substance of the work. if there was little to no substance, then i could move on, and i'm sure a significant chunk of that was AI, but more importantly, it wasn't worth my time.

i genuinely and unironically hope that this is an unintended but positive outcome in a post-AI world. that people abandon attempts to determine if something is AI or not and are instead forced to think "what is there to like about this and why do i like it?"
