Solaz Offer to Owners is UNACCEPTABLE
If you are an owner at Solaz you have probably received an email with some options asking you make a choice for “reparations.” What we do not know is the scope of the issues nor how long it will take to do whatever repair work must be done.
The email states, “Olarena Hospitality Group, owner of Solaz Resort, have decided to close the resort due to unanticipated and immediate infrastructure and rehabilitation needs and also in order to begin building new rooms, residences and, in general, expanding the resort to start a new phase of Solaz, always with the intention of providing unmatched experiences to our members, residents and guests.”
The resort is not even 3 years old, so it is clear that this is little to do with expansion.
The following options were given to us:
We would like to present the following options and ask that you advise us which best suits your needs:
Free accommodations for stays this year 2021 and 2022 in our sister property Hacienda del Mar Resort, Villas and Golf, plus 50% discount F&B and free transportation to and from the airport.
Free 7-night accommodations in Hacienda del Mar, in a standard hotel room, with flexibility on how to distribute the given days.
Waive of 2022 annual maintenance fee.
Extension of contract for the period of inconvenience
Personally, I paid extra to move my 2020 week to 2021 and planned a trip using both weeks in October. Given that we do not even know WHEN this repair work will be complete, nor how severe it is, this offer is less than acceptable even if it were ALL 4 OPTIONS! We owned at Hacienda del Mar prior to buying at Solaz - it truly is an incomparable property from the eyes of the suite owners. I’ve spent 15 years visiting and enjoying HdM, but it’s better days are behind them and it is not really a 1:1 substitute for Solaz.
I believe we are all owed a refund of the maintenance fees for those who have NOT used their weeks in 2021 (and 2020 if you bumped it up to 2021) along with a suspension of maintenance fees until we are able to see a verifiable Certificate of Occupancy. Additionally, our contracts should be extended for the year(s) we are unable to use the property in any capacity.
Solaz is a beautiful property that we have enjoyed using and look forward to using again, hopefully sooner than later. But as owners, who have continued to pay for a property we cannot use or benefit from, we are owed much more than the short, less-than-adequate explanation a DAY AFTER CLOSING THE PROPERTY. I understand not wanting to be alarmist, but it is clear there are bigger problems afoot than they are wanting to share.
