House rulers are the planets ruling the zodiac sign on the cusp of a specific house. This post is tailored to for if a beginner in astrology or just wanna to touch on planetary rulers through the houses.
The planet ruling over your ASC sign specifically is your Chart ruler. ~ Again
The chart ruler is the planet that rules the sign on the ascendent; you only have one chart ruler. The chart ruler can emphasize an area/placement in your chart where themes are preventing or could have a big impact in your life.
So look for your ASC and you’ll see the sign which you then correspond with its planetary ruler.
ASC- Taurus ~ruler: Venus
ASC- Gemini ~ruler: Mercury
ASC- Virgo ~ruler: Mercury
ASC- Scorpio ~ruler: Pluto, Mars traditionally
ASC- Sagittarius ~ruler: Jupiter
ASC- Capricorn ~ruler: Saturn
ASC- Aquarius ~ruler: Uranus, Saturn traditionally
ASC- Pisces ~ruler: Neptune, Jupiter traditionally
Now look for which house that planetary ruler is in
1st house ruler through the houses🧚🏾♀️:
-1st house ruler is also your chart ruler though I’ll go into that more in-depth in a later post
1st house ruler in your 1st house:
You could have a strong personality even if rather shy, timid, or closed off. You could come off bold and in charge of yourself an what your doing. May give inspiring vibes or inspiration to others. Sharp minded. Could be a good encourager and make like to have that energy sent to you as well. May develop your sense of identity moreso internally from how you see yourself or a lot from your interactions and experiences in the outside world; could go either either and be both ways of course in general. Here to create and put into action things for yourself and others. May come off very authentic or straight up with people. Compassionate and illuminating. Magnetic. Could exude magnetism or mysteriousness in your aura. Could have pop up and breakouts; mostly just sensitive skin specifically moreso on the face possibly. Also could have fairly clear skin or a strict/set skin routine to keep it that way.
1st house ruler in your 2nd house:
Hardworking. Smart. Strong senses of smell and taste possibly. Could have a interest in collecting or keeping a certain item. Some maybe slightly materialistic or could just have a tendency to like or get nice/aesthetically pleasing things. Strive for long term stability and security. Could give or come off with a playful/chill/active vibe in your expression. Set on creating a secure and stable life for yourself. When you chart ruler is in this house has a big impact on themes. Could be a creative soul. Likely value loyalty and honesty. May experience life best through physical means abs activities out in the world. Artistic. May be seen as bougie or just very laid-back and chill; or both. Sensual. Could be musically inclinced. Strong aura. Passionate, kind, and considerate character. Stubborn and strong willed. You may like expressions or activities that you do through your senses such as listening to music (ears), eating/cooking (touch/taste), etc. May define self worth or self esteem through material possessions or income.
1st house ruler in your 3rd house:
Could be talkative or would just rather talk a lot to whom you feel most comfortable with. Complex and rational mind/ideas. Very intelligent. May have had or take frequent short travels. Getting out of the house and places. Good sense of humor. Great sense of humor and could have a natural ability to communicate and connect with many different individuals. May have restless ideas and thoughts~mentally. Could get restless physically and have a desire to be constantly up on your toes (metaphorically/symbolically and possibly literally too) Interest in learning about topics you find interest in and genuinely like leading about. Could have a soft spoken/serene like or raspy voice (depends on aspects and where Venus is placed and aspected as well. Could be good at writing, or just like writing/reading/poetry.
1st house ruler in your 4th house:
Crave security and like comfort. Strive to build a stable foundation for yourself. Like to form and seek out close and long-term bonds with others. Could strongly one of your parents more than the other. Doesn’t always mean your homebody though could apply to some of course; may just rather like or want the luxury of being able to be somewhere safe and comfortable where you sit back and relax and rewind. Deeply emotional though deeply private as well. Emotionally intelligent. Could be rather private about home life and ongoings your not comfortable or just don’t wanna share. Caring and attentive. May like to have time to your self (I correspond this with the 8th and 12th house as well); this also can be quite beneficial to you so make sure to try to take time out for alone time when you can. Can be protective over loved ones and people you care for and about. For some could be connected to your roots and diving deeper into your culture or ancestry.
1st house ruler in your 5th house:
Passionate and expressive to and about your interest, things that bring attention you want, goals, inspirations, etc. Talented in someway. Could be artistically and creativtely inclined. May be rather childlike; positive quality wise. May or may not like cats~have one. Considerate. Intelligent. Naturally humorous or can easily grab the attention of others/people close to you. Many interest, hobbies, and passions. May like to shine your light externally out and about or through what it is you like to do or create. Charming and possibly persuasive. Romantic, possibly hopeless romantic. Always thinking outside the box. Could be fun to be around. Lively or very dynamic personality. Not liking to feel limited with your expression. Possibly for some a need to expressive self creatively to feel fulfilled sometimes. May like taking care of or be naturally good with children. Children could like to be around or be naturally drawn to you could be the opposite of course a whole life and chart to reflect that.
1st house ruler in your 6th house:
Could be service-oriented. Generous and giving. Quick-witted. May have a tendency to overthink. Goal-oriented like to see an outcome from what you put your attention and work into even if it takes time. Anxious but sharp minded. May be sarcastic or into dry humor. Could have good comebacks. Caring and careful. May prefer a routine or organization in at least some facet of your life. Hardworking and fastidious. May like things done orderly or just attentive to things you care about. Could be very critical of yourself, sometimes or for some of others/things around you. A creator and helper. May like animals and various creatures. Animals could like to be around or be naturally drawn to you, could be the opposite of course a whole life and chart to reflect that.
To further explain you would do the same for the rest of your houses:
1st-12th house in a sign would correspond with the same planetary ruler of course then you would look for which house that planet (house ruler) of the 2nd house is in ->
Ex: 2nd house in Aries- ruler Mars (so the ruler of the 2nd house specifically here is Mars).
For instance if Mars is in the 6th house; ruler of the 2nd house is in the 6th. So, again all together- 2nd house ruler is Mars and is in the 6th house
~I use the Placidus House System though would follow up the same way if using a different type of house system there are always still house rulers and you would just look to see what sign is on a house then you’d know the ruler and would just have to see where it resides within the houses in the chart 💗
Again a general reference for rulership goes the same for the rest of the houses (don’t mean to be repetitive but if your new to astro wanted it to be helpful) ->
Scorpio- modern day ruler Pluto, ancient ruler- Mars
Sagittarius- ruler Jupiter
Aquarius- modern day ruler Uranus, ancient ruler- Saturn
Pisces- modern day ruler Neptune, ancient ruler- Jupiter
Look for the sign on the house cusp then you can correspond with the respective planetary ruler

This is in a general sense and of course there are many aspects of things to come into play (other placements, aspects, outside interactions, etc.). So, take it with a grain of salt and go with what resonates.
