I'm returning to Sweden!! I will be in Lund in a couple weeks, but for any of you that have been to or live in Stockholm - I need some advice. I want to go for two days before heading back to CA, so lmk if you have suggestions of places to stay/things to do!! 😁

My lil bro is going to the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. THATS RIGHT…CANNES. IN FRANCE. CANNES, FRANCE.
He made a short film for a competition in his community and his film is 1 out of 45 student films that were selected for the festival! Holy SHIT. This is huuuge for anyone in the film industry, or who wants to be. I can’t even believe it. A lil salty that he gets invited before me, but I can live vicariously through him.
Although this invite is amazing, that’s all it is.. an invite. He needs to raise money to actually get there. Not just the standard airfare + hotel + food costs, but a fee to even go to the festival, plus other promotional goods, a passport, business materials, etc. We are estimating about $5,000…

My brother and I are first generation college students in a low-income family, currently struggling year after year with the cost of university. what are the guys like in Sweden? they all seem super attractive but I've heard they are more reserved. please give me details! :)
Hellooo sooo yes the guys are very cute and well dressed and tall and fit ahhh, but they can be a bit reserved. Meaning they are not usually going to be the ones to approach a girl, which is not something many girls are used to because the guys almost always make the first move. But as you may know, Swedish people love to party and get drunk, so that is when they actually let loose.
Side note, Swedish people can be harder to befriend than others, so if you have a great night with a group of Swedes, don’t expect them to say hello in public if you run into them.
So yes, they are reserved, but definitely friendly! No worries! <3
Hej! Im going to be living in Lund for the next few months with my family and I was looking for some things to do around Lund/Malmö/Copenhagen. I havent really had much time to explore and Im looking to get out there and I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what to do or where to go?

Lund is a cute, small town where you can sit in a park and relax, maybe have lunch or something. You can quickly get through the whole town in a few days of exploring. I’d recommend checking out the country side, which is outside of Lund. Like Dalby is beautiful; it is a lake outside of town that you can take a bus to, or if you’re feeling up for it - take a bike.
I never really hung out in Malmö or Copenhagen unfortunately. But Malmö is the second biggest city in Sweden so there are definitely more options. In August they have a music festival so the town is packed and it’s cool! Copenhagen would be great to spend time in, like go to Tivoli (amusement park), go shopping, check out the mermaid and other tourist-y sites.

hi, can you tell me if it's better to live in the university or in a off campus department?
From the experiences my friends had, it is really hard to get university housing. Some of them didn’t even move out of their homes until halfway into the year, or later. It’s really tough.
I’m not sure how to answer this question because my school’s program provided me with guaranteed housing, so I didn’t have to deal with looking for it. Honestly, both options seem good to me. If you like the idea of having your own kitchen/living space and the freedom of not having a contract, maybe “off campus” is best for you. But if you don’t mind having corridor mates, you can live on campus. Either way, you can do whatever you want. It would be a good idea to consider location as well.

Hey! Well it is definitely more convenient to live in a more central location, so like in town. But I noticed those ones are a bit more expensive I think? Those would be Parentesen, Biskopsgatan, Ulrikadel, Spoletorp..
I lived in Vildanden and that is farther West. It was really nice, but then again it all depends on what is important to you. Location, distance from class, etc.
Delphi and Sparta are cool, too, and are on the Eastern side. They are closer to the science buildings.
I didn’t have a bike, but I highly recommend buying one when you get here.

hello! I see lots of students from Lund, at first studied 'home' I mean in the country where they live.. after one or two years they went to Sweden at Lund. Is it like impossible to study at Lund right from the start? If you know what I mean. Because I see lots of student from abroad didn't start studying at Lund but in their country, then they came to Lund. sorry for confused question.
Hello! I am thinking that those students probably transferred. It is definitely possible to start studying at Lund from the beginning. I know a couple people who did that. LU has lots of international students who study there full time or are on exchange. Many swedes work or travel for a year or two after high school before they start their studies so they can figure out what they want. Maybe that is also what you are seeing. Does this answer your question?
How do you join a Nation? Does a Nation select members amongst those who have registered?
Hejsan! Nations don’t select people; anyone who wants to join can. I knew about the nations before going to Sweden, so once I got there, I started doing a bit of research to figure out which one I wanted to join. I arrived in Lund before school started so once the term began, they had a Student Association Fair that had representatives from all the nations and other clubs to talk about their organization and get new members. From what I remember, I just walked into OGs and signed up on the spot. I’m not sure if you can join anytime, or only during the beginning of the semester. But if you are a current student right now looking to join a nation, I would recommend doing it this week because they have already started doing fun stuff! I believe the new term started last week.
If you are really concerned, I can ask a friend of mine. Just let me know. Check out the facebook pages of any nations you are interested in. Studentlund.se is also a great resource. It has all the information you need about being a student in Lund. Believe me, it’s easy.
BUT I FORGOT TO MENTION - before joining an actual nation, you need a membership with the StudentLund union. You can do it online HERE. Just follow the instructions. THEN, you can choose a nation. It really does not matter which nation you join unless you plan on being really involved like I was.
Don’t just participate in the nations, also check out the other societies and unions that might interest you! There is the radio station, spex (theater), choir, etc. Have fun!!!!

Thanks I'm glad!! I took some SAS courses, which were pretty easy classes set up for international students on various topics. I also took two swedish language classes, Swedish Film, and a psych class.
Do you need to know Swedish to be in a Nation or live in Lund? and what are your thoughts about Lunds Nation?
Hej! So Lund is full of international students and Sweden also has the highest english proficiency as a second language; everyone speaks English so it is not a problem. It can possibly get difficult when you are talking to older generations of people, but not young people.
Basically, you don’t need to speak Swedish. They usually are very accommodating and will speak english when around you, especially in a group situation, like if a person is giving instructions to a group of people. Knowing Swedish definitely helps, even at the basic level, but it is not required to be a member of a nation or to work at one. I suggest taking Swedish courses while studying there if you are able just for yourself.
Lunds Nation is great! I know a couple people who work there, too, including an American friend who I met through my program. It is the biggest nation in Lund, in size and number of members. It is like the sister nation to OGs, the nation I was affiliated with. They’ve had balls together. The nations have facebook pages, too, so you can check out pics!! It is in town so it is very central. I think Lunds has a lot of international students that join them.
If you’re thinking of joining a nation (which you should) just do a bit of research. Check out the facebook pages, studentlund.se, even wikipedia has an explanation of what a nation is. Try to find the right one for you; I can help, too! But Lunds is pretty popular and really nice, but of course I would rather have you join OGs ;)

I am also a student at UC Santa Cruz, considering studying abroad in Lund next fall! :) Like others, I came across your blog from the tags and you seem like a knowledgeable person with answers, and I have questions! What is Lund like socially? Are there pubs / clubs around, or do social activities mostly happen within the nations? Also, did you vibe with the social culture of the city/country? Was it easy to travel around Europe from Lund? Thanks so much for your time!
HEJ (that is “hey” in Swedish lol) that is sosososo awesome that you are even considering going (I really hope you do). I can talk about Sweden all day.
Socially - Lund is great. Especially since my first two years at UCSC, I felt kind of bored, so coming to Lund was so nice because it is a great place for students to have fun. I consider Lund like a college town; it is not huge and it is mostly dominated by students and families. It’s a pretty normal place, but not a big city with tons of people, destinations, etc. But still super cute.
There are these places called nations (it’s even on wiki) that are basically like fraternities.. they are student societies. Check out the link to read more so that this post doesn’t turn into a novel but they have lunches/brunches, club nights, and other events. I HIGHLY recommend joining a nation if you will be living in Lund. Like don’t just join one, participate with them. Start working there. (JOIN ÖSTGÖTA NATION). My entire social life was with other EAP kids and the friends I made at the nation. Since I worked there a lot, I also partied there a lot (I can go more in depth later if you want, but you’ll see what I mean).
I vibed with the country, yes. I mean it is a really great place to live. They have it so good. Like being there made me realize how much the US sucks lol.
So I didn’t really travel much, but a lot of people I know did. I went to Berlin by boat and bus and it was around 8 hours. Flying places is also really quick. It isn’t the most central European country, but hey, you’re still in Europe and can easily go places.

its my first day back at school and omggggggg how i wish i was back at LU. mostly because university out there is a lot chiller and right now I am already freaking out. so far i have had one class and i have a paper due next week, a ton of unpacking and other house stuff to deal with, and my birthday is in a few days and i have NO IDEA WHAT IM DOING LIKE IM GUNNA BE 21 HELP ME. cant do anything til next weekend basically since im not 21.
any advice on adjusting back into my school system? lol i didnt have a problem moving to sweden but right now my brain isnt on school mode yet (never was). mostly because i just got back in town yesterday so my brain is scattered.
