Oh. Of course, that was understandable. The diet of a Pokémon could be very different from that of a human, after all… But it still made him glad that she wanted to give it a try. “Oh, right. But I’m surprised that these type-aversions even affect the things you like to eat…” Touya admitted with a small frown.

“Mhh, yes. Zekrom got some quirks, he can be really sassy,” he added, snickering lightly as he peered over to Veritas. “I don’t understand him the way N does, but we got our own methods fortunately.”

Most of the time these the methods involved Zekrom staring down at Touya until the boy suggested the right thing to the powerful dragon, however there was a certain understanding between them. The kind that didn’t need words to make sure they knew what the other wanted.

Touya smiled lightly. “Don’t worry so much, Veritas!” he regarded her with an encouraging look. “Castelia IS a busy city. But that makes it so easy to mingle with the people. No one pays attention to the looks of someone else because there are so many wandering around.” Aah, yes. The busy city of Castelia. Always great when you were in the mood to bump into countless people.

"You can tell many things about a Pokemon by just observation, and some knowledge." She said with a smile. "Though most people don't bother to fully understand their partners, and they thus miss out on a lot."

"N has a gift of understanding Pokemon speech." Veritas felt obliged to explain. "It is almost unheard of in most regions, but there is one outlying land which is populated by individuals who have this ability. Their society is very different from what you are accustomed to."

She nodded, concealing the last vestiges of her apprehension behind a slight smile. “Lead the way, then. I will follow.”

” I was unaware that you all met up like that in the first place. ” He frowned. ” …Humans really have made attempts to catch them? That is absurd! They are to be revered and not stuffed into the confines of a pokeball! The—-” N paused, realizing that he was suddenly going back into his old mindset. He stopped for now, but still found it insane that anyone would even dare to capture a legendary…..A few seconds later, and he realized that he was one of those people when he had Reshiram. Talk about feeling hypocritical.

” A-anyways, you say such kind words. I have not really done much that is commendable…Though I am trying to be beneficial to those around me. “

"There is much about Pokemon that humans do not know." Veritas blinked slowly. Indeed, humans did not know much, first and foremost the fact that Legendary Pokemon held their own council. "And there are some things that would best remain unknown." For it would give unscrupulous parties leverage to exploit the congregation's abilities.

She smiled at N's outburst, remembering the trainer's unique perspective. "As long as you have the intent, and you act upon that intent - it is good enough."

"Say, have you heard of the Ransei region?"

She didn’t need sustenance…? Did that mean she didn’t need to eat like everyone else? But food was great in so many ways! “W-well, I wouldn’t say that it’s necessary…” Touya shyly admitted as he frowned slightly. “But it usually helps to break the ice between people…?”

Casteliacones…? Now colour him surprised! Touya really hadn’t expected her to try out Casteliacones, after all he knew perfectly well that Dragon-types had a certain aversion to the cold.

“Heh, of course! In that case let’s get some Casteliacones,” the boy smiled brightly at the woman, gesturing her eagerly to follow him. “Though I’m surprised you like them… Zekrom wasn’t fond of them, he gave me that one look, you see…” Touya chuckled lightly under his breath.

"Ah, I see." Veritas nodded thoughtfully. Perhaps she had phrased her statement strangely - it was true that she did not need to eat much, and could go for extended periods of time without food. "I have not had much experience with human food, since I spend most of my time as a Pokemon instead of among trainers."

"I am part Fire-type, so I do suppose that counters Dragons' natural aversion to cold." She smiled at Touya's second statement, following the trainer's lead. "My brother does have his quirks, it seems."

The last time she had spoken to him about food seemed so long ago. Who knew what could have changed during this time?

"Alright then. Castelia is quite a busy city." She exhaled slowly. "I do hope I don't stand out too much..."

/Understood, M’lady./ He knew well the threat of humans trying to tame Pokemon for the sake of dark and selfish purposes. Many a times he had been witness to such things. It was part of the reason he preferred the seclusion of the misty mountains in which he roamed.

Humans are interesting, though. They are capable of sacrificing a lot to protect what they believe in. Veritas thought back to her brother's words. Not all humans are against us, though. Some, though very few, have hearts pure enough to warrant our approval.

Well, okay, she did have a point. But she really didn’t need to worry so much! Just because she had no Pokémon didn’t mean people would immediately assume that she was Reshiram. “They’ll just think of you as an oddball, Veritas. Trust me.”

Regarding her with a reassuring smile, Touya nodded immediately when she indirectly asked for his correction. Of course he would help her as best as he could. That’s what friends were for, after all!

“Um, true. I’m not too sure. We could take a walk together,” Touya suggested thoughtfully before he glanced at her questioningly. “Or are you hungry? We could get something to eat!”

"Well, if you say so." Veritas smiled slightly. She was confident in Touya's abilities. For one, he did not lie, and his words were chosen with the best of intentions. "I will trust your judgment."

"Well, I do not strictly need sustenance, but if you feel that is necessary, then I don't see why not." She said thoughtfully. "I did try some Casteliacones at N's request. They were... very nice."

Despite her dislike for cold food, she had found them enjoyable.

Touya smiled warmly at Veritas, quietly pronouncing the name a few times in his head before he opened his mouth again. “That’s a great name! And it really suits you, Resh- I mean, Veritas. And not just because of its meaning, just the sound of it is pretty!” he commented happily before he shook his head.

If she really thought that her disguise would cause trouble, then she wasn’t aware of how… ignorant humans could be. Most people didn’t care as long as they didn’t get involved.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine,” Touya nodded in an encouraging manner, a light grin tugging at his lips. “If someone like N can adept, then so will you too. Just take it easy and go with the flow…? Yeah, it’s easy!”

Besides… they were friends now. And no friend of his caused him trouble.

"Hmmm, if you say so." Veritas frowned slightly. Touya's statements were reassuring, but she herself could see several holes in her disguise. "But for one, humans without any Pokemon are rare - and I simply cannot assume the role of a trainer, because I have no Pokemon."

"But then again, I suppose it would not be too much of a problem...?" She smiled slightly. "You can correct me if I am doing anything strange."

"Now then... I suppose we have been standing here for too long. What do you propose we do?"

The boy beamed happily, despite the look of surprise on his face. Who would have thought that Reshiram would actually agree to this? In any case, Touya was glad for it!

“I’m sure you’ll do just fine. So from now on, if you ever feel the need for company, you can always come to me,” the brunet smiled warmly as he stuffed his hands back into his jacket pockets.

There was only one thing left to do!

“Say, since you’re in this… form right now, I can’t just go and keep calling you Reshiram, right? People would notice…” Touya tilted his head to one side. “So, do you have another name I could call you?”

"Veritas," She answered with a smile. "An alias with a hidden meaning. Not many will make a connection to my true identity. It means truth, in an ancient language once used exclusively by scholars."

Latin, it was.

"I do hope I don't cause too much trouble for you. I am not very used to this... disguise. It is unfortunately quite easy for the more sharp-minded to take a guess at who I am."

For one, Pokemon would literally come out to talk to her. That was a problem.

The Reshiram copied the gesture. In other regions, things may be different...

... but that is not the point. Do be careful - there are many humans who would use our power for selfish purposes.

He smiled slightly and held his hands up in a defensive stance. ”I don’t judge dudes just ‘cause others tell me they’re bad. If I see it fer myself then sure. But everyone’s got a diff’rent story, yeah?” He shrugged. “‘ts great t’ believe in somethin’, but beyond helpin’ those kids, ‘ts not really my fight.”

Veritas nodded slowly. To confirm a statement before believing in it - a different form of truth, but truth nevertheless. "Belief may be strong, but it may also be false. I can understand."

"This is Humilau, right? A newly developed city?" She had only known of it as a resort town.

Touya frowned unhappily the longer he listened to the woman’s talk. Relationships pale just because they end too soon? If all people and Pokémon thought like that, everyone would be lonely!

“That’s stupid, Reshiram,” the boy countered abruptly, regarding her with a serious expression. “I’d rather spend the blink of an eye with a friend than stay alone all the time. After all you can still look back on happy memories with each other! Even if I die early some day, I know that Zekrom won’t just remember me as his Hero. He’ll remember me as his friend.”

And with that he held out his hand to the personified truth. “I know I’m naive for even trying… But… let’s be friends, okay?”

Veritas hesitated.

That was a rather unexpected reaction. But then again, it came from a human, so she should not be surprised.

"... Very well." She took Touya's hand, and returned the handshake. "I will try my best."

Humans... they can be so strange in their reasoning. But then again, this was why they had so much potential. She recalled her brother saying something like that a while ago... Perhaps he could be right. This was a truth she would try to verify.

N tilted his head to the side, curious to what Veritas had meant. ” A visit to your brethren? And who exactly would that include, if I may ask? ” He frowned slightly, noticing the slight change in tone of her voice, but decided not to comment on it.

” No, it is quite alright. It…was the same for me, anyways. Although, it seems that I had arrived just in time, I still missed the majority of what happened. If only I had been here to stop it sooner…Though, you are right. It is fortunate that there were people to help put a stop to such actions. “

"Oh, what humans would term as Legendary Pokemon. Exalt Arceus, Lord Dialga, Lady Palkia, and Exile Giratina. Ho-oh and Lugia. Among others." Veritas explained. It sometimes slipped her mind that humans used different terms from Pokemon. "Humans always attempt to capture them, though they are more than capable of defending themselves."

"There will always be darkness in the hearts of men, and yet shadow cannot exist without light." Her tone became lighter. "Humans are commendable for the positive qualities they can display. This applies to you as well."

She felt obliged to say something about him. Their partnership had ended - it was the least she could do.

And hopefully it qualified as an expression of the human bond of friendship.

“Guess not,” he said with a laugh. At the question, he tilted his head. ”Those dudes? One a’ my challengers was real worried about them a while back. Never heard a’ ‘em before but I still helped ‘em get on their boat. Least I could do for ‘em, right?”

"I suppose so." She noted his nonchalance. "However, you should know that this organization is responsible for a great deal of crimes."

Wait, was she implying that Zekrom would remain by his side as long as he lived? “I- I didn’t know that,” Touya replied truthfully as he cast a glance towards the ground, a small frown forming on his forehead. “I don’t think my ideals are anything special, I only want to make people and Pokémon happy and find my own path in life…”

Touya couldn’t say why he confessed those things to her, but he figured that it was only fair. She was Reshiram, she deserved to know the truth — besides, wouldn’t she see through a lie anyway?

However her explanation made him sad. Not just because her partnership with N had ended so quickly, but also for Reshiram herself. “Aren’t you lonely, then? I mean, if it’s so difficult to form a lasting bond for you…” He looked back up, just in time to catch a glimpse of her bright blue eyes. “Then… If you can’t find such a partnership. What about friendship, Reshiram? There’s a difference, after all!”

"Well, I was merely forming a generalization. All rules have exceptions - even the rule which dictates that exceptions are compulsory. I do not know of my brother's thoughts. If you wish to clarify, you should ask him." Veritas blinked, keeping her tone even. She had never understood her brother - but then again, the three of them rarely empathized with each other. Ah, that issue. “You must first understand that I am immortal. To Pokemon like us, decades are like blinks of an eye... Our partners are many, but in the end death separates us from those who we wish to accompany. Throughout history, there have been many champions, but only one of us.” She sighed. “We cannot help it - it is difficult for us to devote our emotions into friendship. Relationships pale when they are at risk of ending permanently.”

Well, she seemed to be rather complacent so far… That was a good sign. Touyo would continue to speak accordingly if the conversation was going to continue to flow in the way that it was at the moment. And then she asked what her name was…? Well, a simple question indeed! She could answer that, obviously, and naturally she would do the obvious and inquire the same to the mysterious white clad person in front of her.

“My name is Touyo Blair, miss.” she spoke, her voice confident and not wavering at all as she did so. “And may I request if you’d be so kind to relinquish your name unto me so we can have introductions out of the way?” Well, that sounded perhaps a bit arrogant to her ears, but she meant it in the most kindest of ways, actually. Perhaps she had been around Ghetsis TOO MUCH. The thought she was acting more like him was a sickening one, to be honest…

The name rang a bell. It resonated very much like a certain other trainer's, but there was a subtle difference. A quirk of fate, perhaps...

And she was formal. Overly so, even.

"You may call me Veritas." She nodded slightly, choosing not to comment on Touyo's speaking style. Compared to the trainer, she was concise and to the point.

Speak only the truth, and nothing else. Veritas did not see why one had to result to sheer eloquency. That usually meant the speaker was trying to conceal something - but the girl did not lie. At least, she did not think she was.
