ℬlack was halfway to the door when he noticed White’s expression. Cerulean eyes softened, his hand leaving the doorknob and dropping to his side, acutely feeling the pistol jangle in his jacket pocket. His heart clenched, knowing that Despair had done something to his sister. He hadn’t shot her, from the looks of it, so that was a mild consolation. But for White to warrant such a pained expression wracked with guilt…it made the same feeling brew inside him. Despair had done something. He wasn’t sure what, but it was something. Had he been able to choose otherwise, had he not sat there dumbly while that…that god descended from the unholy skies above…
ℛealizing he’d spaced out, Black started to hastily remove the blue jacket, setting it on the stool beside the door, almost as if he could wash away the sins he’d committed (even if it was by Despair’s hands and not his). Pursing his lips, his expression cracked briefly before he forced a bright smile on his face, sitting down on the pristine white sheets, intertwining his fingers with hers as he leaned against her forehead with a soft ‘thump’. “I think I prefer to stay here with you,” he admitted with a soft laugh, relief spreading through his body. White’s presence, her smile, her warmth, her laughter, just those were enough to reassure him that she was safe. She was happy, even if it were but temporary. Even if he knew that they were both living under the watchful eyes of the King of Despair. It wasn’t fair, he decided. Why them, out of the thousands of people living in Jerusalem’s Lot? Why them, out of the billions of people on the face of the earth?
“ί’m hungry,” Black murmured quietly, partially alluding his lethargy to his apparent lack of food. But if she wasn’t hungry, maybe he could order some food in. There was always pizza delivery, was’t there? That way, he wouldn’t leave White alone in the hospital ward, and he could also get food for himself. Effectively, he was killing two birds with one stone. “I’ll call for pizza delivery. Do you want anything, White?”
❤ White looked over to see her brother coming through the door, watching his face melt a bit when his eyes had met hers. She could still feel the heat resting on her face from the mad cries that she’d released from her prior encounter with Despair. She wished that her face wasn’t conveying that utter despair that she was feeling from earlier, however she couldn’t bring herself to a calm nature before her brother rejoined her in the land of the living. She let a faux smile work up over her face. She didn’t want black to worry, she didn’t want him to be scared, she just wanted him to be happy and smiling again.
❤ Watching as her brother had moved over and placed his forehead against hers with that light thud, she gave a silent cry. It was nothing more than a few hours ago that she’d been pressing a gun up against his chest. This gentle being who wanted nothing more than her safety and love could have been killed by her very hands. She didn’t know how to cope with something like that, all she wanted was to protect her brother. Even though they were twins, it always felt like he was light years away from her, and she was clinging to his back begging him not to leave her behind.

❤ She played along with his whims, she didn’t want him to think something was wrong. She wanted him to think that she was still her bubbly happy self, rather than this depressing wreck that had overcome her. Plus she couldn’t exactly pass up an opportunity to have a slice of pizza with her dearest brother. Gently giving his hand a squeeze as she took a deep breath and smiled, because this was her brother... this was her black, not some monster wearing his face.
