I did a series of illustrations of made up characters within the Naruto universe for a potential dnd one-shot my crew was considering. I wanted to create a game set in the time when Jirayah and his team would have been kids, before Naruto and his crew were even considerations in their parents minds. One of the versions of this drawing I did, stand-alone. This one I wanted to add more texture and color to that was less literal.

I wanted to step out of my comfort zone with this one and draw in a less restrictive style and of a subject matter I wouldn’t usually consider. I am pretty pleased with how it came out in the end! It was fun doing something “intentionally messy” where it was okay to go outside the lines and have a little more fun with the style.

I really wanted to do some more Steven Universe fan art while also stepping out of my comfort zone a little and playing around with style and illustration effects. What do y’all think?

Comic Strip: Me and You

So I have fallen in love with the webtoons platform and I am especially into how the vertical paneling goes, so I decided to try and do a mini one of my own. This one is an illustration of a cute memory I had with my boyfriend when we watched tv together using my projector.

I know it's not technically perfect and I would love to find a simpler coloring style that works with this format and try again, but I am still happy enough with how this came out and I look forward to doing more in the future! This was done in procreate and if anyone has advice on how to create webcomics using procreate without running into an issue of not having enough layers, please let me know!

I was inspired to do this piece because I thought it would be fun to do a critters campaign some time where all the characters are played by tiny animals exploring the great big world around them.

Pangolin-inspired Desert Dragonborn Cleric

My boyfriend and I created a character prompt generator and do these drawing challenges with our friends. This is one of the characters I rolled: "A considerate dragonborn cleric from a desert town hidden inside a sandstorm who suffers from vertigo".

Some of their description is a tall order when it comes to incorporating it into an illustration, but I hoped that the hand steading it's head would show how hard it might be to focus (especially if they were a dragonborn with vertigo trying to concentrate on a spell). And I went with a pangolin design because I thought it would be a cute interpretation of what a dragonborn from the desert might look like.

Have you ever reskinned a dnd character for your campaign to fit a theme better like this? If so, what was it?

Cleocatra, Head of the House of Baast

Here's my initial sketch of Cleo, head of the House of Baast and mother of Mitzi, Mirage, and Ri (you can see their group shot here).

I'm calling this a sketch for now because It is a little rougher than my work usually is, but was thrown together for our dnd campaign so that we had something to show the players for this character. I hope to revisit her one day and see how I could elaborate on her design, but I LOVE how her initial design came out and it was a lot of fun trying to decide what the mother of three very different tabaxi kittens would look like, especially a women who was known for her beauty as the head of a prosperous exotic brothel in their city...

Have you ever created artwork for the parents of your main character(s)? What were the hardest challenges to work around?

Iris and Mitzi as Kittens

I just really wanted to draw a picture of Iris and Mitzi as they might have looked while they were growing up. Two best friend tabaxi before the troubles of the world would come down on them...

Have you ever drawn your characters at different ages in their lives? What are some of the biggest challenges you found while creating these designs?

Iris, Tabaxi from the House of Khepri

Iris of the House of Khepri joined the House of Baast at the age of 6. She quickly became close friends with Mitzi there, and the two of them would scramble off after their studies to spar in the woods or run off into the streets of the city to see what they could get into.

At one point, they rescued a goblin from the slave trades at the port. They learned that this goblin had dreams of becoming an alchemist, so they helped him learn to read and write in common, and in exchange they were able to make a lot of good connections in the undergrounds of their city. As Iris grew older, she began to feel the pressure from her mother to carry her own weight for the family and join "the family business". This was not something Iris wanted. She decided to come up with an escape plan: she would wake Mitzi and the two of them would run away together... though their plan did not go accordingly. On their way out they were stopped my Iris's mother, Keket, who demanded that Iris and Mitzi return to their house and continue to play the roles they were raised for to maintain order in the house and avoid further embarrassing both families.

When neither girl would go without a fight, Keket took them out by force, nearly killing Mitzi in the process to get Iris back. Mitzi was found by her sister Mirage who had been keeping an eye on the girls for a while... When Mirage saw the condition Mitzi was in she immediately dragged her to the underground where Basil was for medical help. Mitzi woke up with limited memory of how she got there, but Basil warned her that going back to the House of Baast would be impossible in her current state as Keket had positioned Mitzi as a traitorous villain that had tried kidnapping her innocent daughter...

And at the start of the campaign, this is basically all that Mitzi knows. Her goal is to grow stronger so she can go back and face Keket and rescue Iris, but after meeting up with her sisters Mirage and Ri a few years later she learns that they don't even know much about what happened to Iris after because they both made their leave from The House of Baast establishment as well...

Who else get's so deeply invested in the characters in their backstory even if they aren't currently in the main campaign yet?? TT_TT I love Iris.
