𝙸𝚃 𝙷𝙰𝙳 𝙱𝙴𝙴𝙽 𝙰 𝙶𝙾𝙾𝙳 many years since she had last seen her, but the sight of her still rang pleasantly in familiarity. Perhaps it was—more than anything else—the prospect of seeing a familiar face amidst the sea of strangers that enamored the young Queen as intensely as it did. Something to remind her of that despite the Stag banners that decorated the red keep, she was still a lioness. True enough, she still had Jaime. And although the company of her brother was sufficient enough, Jaime was still Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard.

“Cousin.” She greeted her with a smile that strangely wasn’t forced. Likely the first genuine smile since her wedding night. The golden-haired Queen involuntarily and the rather expectantly held out her hand towards her cousin. “Have you brought me any jewels from Cintra?”

𝚂𝙷𝙴 𝚆𝙰𝙽𝚃𝙴𝙳 𝚃𝙾 𝙱𝙴𝙻𝙸𝙴𝚅𝙴 𝙷𝙸𝙼. She wanted—perhaps even so desperately—to fall into her brother's loving embrace and protective arms, the same way that she had done many nights since her girlhood in Casterly Rock. She wanted to take Jaime's words for what they were. A promise, fueled behind sorrow, regret, and ultimately, love. Most importantly, she wanted to believe that he was being genuine, but she didn't. She couldn't.

There had been a time where Cersei Lannister truly believed—without a shadow of doubt—that there was no one in the world that she could ever trust but her twin brother. But now? Now she couldn't be as certain as she once was, for the fact that Jaime had betrayed her trust far too many times for the lioness to simply forget. He says that I should trust him better, but perhaps his should know me better than that. What a fool. A beautiful and golden fool. But still a fool nonetheless.

“Words are wind, Jaime.” She said, turning on her heels and retreating back to the only friend that she learned that she could truly trust over the years—wine. Her slender fingers wrapped around the handle of the goblet of freshly poured Arbor red, before turning back to her brother once more. “Do you know how many times I’ve been promised the same thing? And by whom?” She brought the wine to her lips, but didn’t drink. “I don’t trust words. If you wish to regain my trust, you must prove your loyalty.”

𝚃𝙰𝙺𝙴 𝙰 𝙲𝙰𝙿𝚃𝙸𝚅𝙴, 𝙰𝙽𝙳 𝙾𝙽𝙴 can always expect one to be taken all the same. Although this one was nowhere near as significant as Jaime—not even half as chief as Jaime—Cersei still counted it as a small victory. If not a victory altogether, then it was most certainly a step in the right direction. Without one of his centerpieces in the waging war, it was due time that the Stark boy realized what a fool he was. That it was best for him to retreat back to that snowy wasteland that he called home, and seek his wet nurse for another feeding.

But no matter how celebratory this feat was, the Queen Regent couldn’t help but allow her thoughts to travel, and to remain around one thing.

“And my brother,” she said after giving the fetters bound around his wrists a proper inspection, “once he’s released, only then can you expect the same. A prisoner for a prisoner. We shall see how valued you truly are by your false King.”

𝙷𝙾𝚆 𝙼𝙰𝙽𝚈 𝚃𝙸𝙼𝙴𝚂 𝙷𝙰𝙳 𝚂𝙷𝙴 brushed through those golden curls over the years? How long has it been since she had been able to do so once again? Too many and too long. But Cersei Lannister did not allow herself to measure the time since. Now that her eldest daughter was back in King’s Landing, nothing else seemed to matter to the Queen Regent. Not even the hideous scar upon her daughter’s beautiful face, nor the lack of an ear carefully concealed behind her curls. Her knowledge of that ghastly injury was only subconscious, however. Cersei lacked the slightest care in even touching the curls that lay over her cheek. Though Myrcella did not seem bothered in the slightest, the same could not be said of her mother. The prospect of even looking upon such a thing was utterly unfathomable.

“You must tell me,” with a smile to perfectly match the enthusiasm in her voice, Cersei lowered the brush from her daughter’s hair, and set both of her hands down on the girl’s shoulders, “how was it in Dorne? Were you treated with the utmost hospitality? All you need is to breathe a single complaint…” She broke off, but it was perhaps common knowledge what she was going to say next.

He is up to something. And the only thing that she did know for sure was that she didn’t quite like it, nor did she trust her brother.

𝚂𝙾 𝚃𝙷𝙸𝚂 𝚆𝙰𝚂 𝙷𝙴𝚁. 𝚃𝙷𝙸𝚂 was the girl whose name had been on the tongues of the entirety of the Seven Kingdoms. Lowborn and High. From the Arbor to the Wall. They believed that she was meant to claim her birthright—The Iron Throne of Westeros. The Breaker of Chains, The Mother of Dragons. She single-handedly liberated Slaver’s Bay and ruled over Mereen, and was apt to do the same across the narrow sea. It sounded something like a fairy tale. Something that wet nurses would often tell to small children. But no more than that. This was reality. And in reality, the visage of Daenerys Targaryen was as frightening as the stories of her. And as far as Cersei Lannister was concerned, that meant absolutely nothing.

Neither was she keen on refraining from allowing such a thing to show. A sigh falling from her lips, the golden haired Queen delicately set down a pair of hands folded together down on her lap as she observed the girl. A child. What right does any kind of child have to invoke fear. I shall let her know what fear truly is.

“Go on,” Cersei started, “speak your piece. Let’s not waste any more time. The Gods only know that I could be use this bit of amusement.”

And so she did—no different than the same way that she had been doing for around fifteen years now—she stood proud and tall, like a true lioness. Her chin raised, and claws retracted as she sat on the dais, not even been putting forth an effort to ignore her Kingly husband’s drunkenness.

“Lovely country.” The golden-haired woman quipped. There was no trace of enthusiasm in her voice, however. “I can imagine a Southron woman— such as yourself—easily making a life here.
