What Do You Know About Chauli Ki Jali Cliff Trek in Kumaon
I do not know about other but I'm not usually one for "short treks," but this changed my mind.
Started at Mukteshwar Temple (7,500 ft) around 6 AM. The path winds through oak and deodar forests—zero crowds, just bird calls and morning mist. What surprised me:
The views are disproportionate to the effort. 2-3 hours walking, but you get 350-degree Himalayan panorama. On clear days, Nanda Devi range is visible.
The cliff edge is dramatic. Chauli Ki Jali isn't just a viewpoint—it's a sheer rock face dropping into deep valleys. Not for anyone with height issues.
3.It's genuinely beginner-friendly. My 60-year-old parents did it comfortably. Gentle gradients, shaded sections, multiple rest spots.
4. Spiritual + adventure combo works. Starting at an ancient Shiva temple adds context that most treks lack.
Practical stuff:
No permits needed - Can be done independently (trail is clear, but recommended to go with a local expert)
Best early morning (6-9 AM) or late afternoon (4-6 PM)
After returning, stay at camp purple to explore camping life in Mukteshwar.
Mukteshwar town is 6-7 hours from Delhi. If you're in the Nainital/Mukteshwar area and have 3-4 hours, this is worth it. Not epic, but quietly memorable.
