Will didn’t miss how she snatched the other half, but he didn’t stop her knowing there were plenty more in the sack. “Not quite, though many of the friendly animals around camp are beginning to recognize me, they don’t run when I come to study them. Give them time and I’m sure they’ll become more relaxed around us. Feel free to join me when I go out, you might grow on them as well.”

“I would absolutely love to do that. I should be working, but it’s kind of nice to be able to get away from something that feels so mindless.” Allegra smiled slightly, glancing up at him momentarily before turning her gaze back down to the bowl. “I appreciate it, really. The distraction is nice.”

"Who said it's not working? We can just say you're helping me study the native wildlife. I'll leave it up to you to sketch all the animals-- never been much of an artist myself."

Allegra watched him carefully, paying close attention to what he was doing in hopes of being able to recreate it later on that chance that it resulted in a success. “Well, in that case I do admire your dedication to the cause.” She casually stole the other half of the fruit, sneaking a bite of it. “So I should ask, while you’re already making me juice, any luck on finding me an adorable alien companion pet?”

“Is it?” Amelia chuckled. “Not for companionship?” 

“Are you saying we’re not good enough companions?” He gasped, motioning to the rest of the crew.

“I would have to agree… i’m quite bored of eating it,” Noah sighed. “Do you think we’ll find a replacement soon?”

“Possibly, but until the crops are ready to eat, or the animals are awoken, we’ll just have to hunt or fish more variety.”

amelia--blackwood:

“Do you think the chickens could lay eggs and I could make scrambled eggs?” Amelia smirked widely at the other. “While— that’s the issue,” She chuckled. “Lack of variety!”

“Of course, isn’t that why we brought them in the first place-- so we could indulge with some eggs occasionally.”

“Time to become a mixologist then? Too bad we haven’t conquered alcohol just yet. Maybe that should be our next feat. Just a side project, you know.” Allegra playfully rolled her eyes, taking a seat in front of him and pulling the sack of fruit into her lap. “It’s definitely not impossible. We could put just about any of this stuff together and it would be pretty decent. But I’m looking for amazing, are you up for that challenge?”

William took one of the fruits and easily cut it in half. Setting one half down he kept the other and held the rock firmly in the center of the bowl. “It might take a couple tries to get anything that could be called fantastic, but I’m willing to take that challenge.” He ground the fruit down onto the sharp edge of the rock, hoping it had the desired effect.

“I figured that from the fact that your specialty is animals, but I wasn’t going to bring you down.” Allegra laughed with a slight shake of her head. Before long, she was headed down to the lake, sack full of different kinds of fruits in tow. Normally, she tended to busy herself with actual work, but if anything they could come up with some sort of punch to share at the bonfire.

Allegra had more been given more of the work, what with finding the fruit while he was only tasked with grabbing a knife and finding a sharped, pointed rock-- which was harder than he would have expected. Joining her down by the lake he dropped to the ground, setting down a bowl with his two items inside. “Let’s see if we can make something worth drinking,” He smiled, holding out his hands for one of the fruits.

“Well, in that case, good enough.” Allegra took the offered hand, pulling herself up. “I can get us some more fruits if you supply us with the hardware?” she suggested.

“Fair warning, I might be a scientist but I don’t know what I’m doing,” He tossed over his shoulder, heading to his tent for a knife with a mirthful grin. “I’ll meet you by the lake, I’ve a feeling this might get a little messy.”

“How do you suppose we go about that?” she asked, giving him a questioning look. “We don’t exactly have a cook’s kitchen, but I wouldn’t terribly mind some experimentation.”

“Well, I’m no master chef but I’ve seen my wife make lemonade a couple of times.” William got to his feet and extended a hand to help her up with. “We should start by finding more of these-- and maybe a sharp rock, as well.”

“Hate to say it, but you just might. This isn’t exactly knock off Starbucks, which regardless of what anyone says, it’s really not that bad.” Allegra teased, discarding what was left of her fruit. “But fair enough, if I have to choose between this and perfectly made Cuban coffee, I would be turning my nose up at it, too.”

Will looked down to their discarded food; shifting in his position leaned up against the tree, he narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. “We might not get any five star coffee, but we might be able to make something akin to orange juice-- which is something you like, right?”

Lyra looked up at him and gave him a small smile. “Thank you.” Most people around camp tended to try and avoid her causing her to chase them for their medical tests. 

“Not a problem, I don’t see why you’d think that; you’re a joy to have around, Lyra.”

carterfarmer:

“Well technically since you’re the only one in that field, you can call yourself the best.” That what Eleanor would do in his position anyway. “We were so close to being finished. And then the storm hit us.” 

“Hmm, good point but I’ve no doubt Sun’s knowledge in pretty much all subjects trumps mine. The storm definitely didn’t bring anything good,” He sighed. “You’ve been working quite a lot with the builders so I’ve no doubt you’ll make up the lost work soon.”

       “ we are old, willhelm, ” she teases lightly, straightening the paper out before looking at him studying the list. “ besides, our age just strengthens how good we are in our areas. think i’m missing anything ?? that’s fine, if they don’t mess with my stuff. ”

“Speak for yourself-- you’re older than me,” He ribbed. “I think you thought of everything under the sun, so I’ve got nothing to add; I’ll add it if I think of something, or is that a no-no as well-- writing on your list.”

“My apologies, I didn’t think that I could paint such a vivid picture. I’ll work on being less alluring next time.” Allegra said, her tone mock apologetic. “Hey, even if it’s not great, it is absolutely still better than nothing at all, don’t you think?”

“I appreciate it,” He chuckles heartily. “I don’t I’ve gotten used to the way my wife makes it-- I’m not sure if I could settle for a poor cup of coffee now.”

carterfarmer:

“When my chicken will finally be woken up. It’s not like you could run to the dairy for eggs. If you’re complaining about the speed, you can always give a hand to rebuild the structures needed for the animals.”  

“Ah, no, I think I’ll keep studying the native animals-- stick to something I’m good at, and leave the building to the builders. I wouldn’t want to build anything less than stable for your animals.”

“Oh shut up. I’ll drink it if you’re not going to be appreciative.” She teased. “Those coffee beans were ground by hand for your drinking pleasure. But give me and El a bit longer and we’ll add eggs to your diet again, never you fear.”

“I assure you it’s a greatly appreciated luxury that I’m glad you discovered,” William assured her, giving her a friendly pat on the back. “Does that mean you guys will be fixing my eggs as well?”

“Fuck… scrambled eggs?” Amelia sighed heavily. “Now i’m fucking hungry,” She groaned. “Although i’ve gotta say— I love that fruit. Like I wanna export it to Earth and make a fortune.”

“Makes one of us,” He commented with a light smile. “After the third one I began to find it bland-- like eating an uncooked potato.”
